Great vid! Was wondering if you can share what softskills helped you the best in communicating with difficult lawyers.
Most of the time people are confuse about Paralegal and Legal Assistants. Paralegals and legal assistants share a common objective of solving cases by locating the people involved. They contribute to the investigative aspect of legal cases by locating and gathering information about individuals relevant to a case. These two important roles collaborate with attorneys to identify witnesses, track down parties involved in lawsuits, and ensure the accuracy of information presented in legal proceedings.
That’s right
I just got offered a position as a legal assistant and I'm scared !

Hi, i start at the DA's office in a week and found your video. First and hopefully only job😊 in the legal field
Hi there, great video, could you create a video about legal assistant activities, please? I really appreciate any help you can provide.
I was looking for entry level experience in IT and I landed a job with a Houston-based PI law firm back in january. I was so happy, as a legal IT assistant. It is a family owned law firm, and my boss was very nice, I respect her and thank her for the opportunity. I was an assistant for their IT director, and they brought in a third guy to take over the report generating which was offshored to some guy in india. The man is like pushing 40 and I am 27 here with little to no experience. I felt pretty little and felt like I could have done more, but my director just does not have time wearing the supervisor hat. I was terminated this past Friday. The schedule flexibility thing, well sad to say, I lost two loved ones while working there and I had to take 2 bereavements which is something I believe it is attributed to my termination. I missed like 5 days of work in total, and it sucks having to go to work with that chip on your shoulder. While I was here looking at my emails to see if there is any assistance around the office, I saw how legal assistants were hauling ass which was pretty cool. I would have never thought I would work in law, but yeah these girls were pushing it. It is true, you play with law, you have deadlines, people's cases are in your hands, and if you botch something, while it is a bit tough, it does make the law firm look bad because of your mistakes and there is usually 0 tolerance. I got along pretty well with staff, and I wish I could have been able to support them by learning and being delegated more stuff, but while I do own some fault in some things, the director was just not giving me much to work with. The last email I read this past friday just read that my reason for termination was not developing skills, like bro HOW!!!??? I spent 6 months there and just drove hoping for the best every day. The man only gave me one report to change some SOLs in Neos which was the firm's software, and he showed me how to change some templates for some POA forms. Like that is cool, like give me some stuff like that. I don't blame the guy, but he does have a lot of burden which is why I was hired, but nope. NADA. I still feel thankful for the 6 months of experience, currently I am looking for another job and I was thinking of hopping to the next law firm with this experience, while I did not work in intake or cases, I wonder if this could perhaps help me pivot. Having 0 things to do just made my days very psychological, being stuck inside that office while everyone was working sucked balls. But yeah I guess that is the path of every recent grad, get that half assed job and move on. There is indeed a lot of prestige, and I was always very happy to help and assist the girls with their computers as I consider customer service my strongest skill. The termination letter did say that I was very good employee to work with which is totally something they need to recognize. Sneaky sons of snuck an exit interview with me and I was very blunt and polite with my feedback, and I noticed the girl (she the lawyer's right hand) was a bit upset, like I have good potential, they just simply did not know how to leverage it, so back they to the neverending zoom interviews. Should I continue working in law?
I'm interviewing for something similar tomorrow In the Midwest. It's a small firm and I'm going in blind in regards to what they are looking for in the position. They even have someone outside the country handling some of their IT.
@@rmo9808 Hi there! I wish you the best. Working in Law you definitely learn a lot of stuff, while it sounds a bit tedious, it is indeed very important to learn about. Honestly as long as you are open to learning you can submerge yourself into the material they teach you. Working as a legal assistant may be a bit tedious and boring at times, but definitely a very good position. Yes, some small firms do tend to outsource, but here in this office they have their it dept because the case management software that is used is not one-size-fits-all, a lot of work is done in generating templates for documents and making field changes in intake reports, etc. like yeah. My job did outsource report generating because it is a mid-sized firm, so they need to see how many calls are picked and how many cases are processed, etc. Some guy from india did this, but they stopped using him since the quality of his reports were not so good, also the time difference was another factor. Now my other coworker is bound with ball and chain typing these things for 5 departments across. lol. I really wanted to learn more about this, but IDK maybe i dodged a bullet there. I am still processing all of this. I truly am thankful for the experience, and working for a very big law firm well known and advertised across my city is definitely a dream come true. I am so salty and mad about this but whatever. I'll move on to another firm I suppose. I need money! lol.
Ur very pretty btw ❤
Thank you I have my interview this morning for legal aid I appreciate your help !!!🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Love how ur boyf hopped in(: such a supportive thing to do
Best tip is to be genuine and hones. Always show high interest in learning. Share how you plan to apply your skills into the law firm daily tasks. Show confidence, even without experience and always ask questions. (You can RUclips legal assistant interview Q&A) Always look for red flags. Not all law firms are the same.
Thank you for sharing! ❤
You sound too sweet and young that its hard to take you seriously. Too much up-talk.
Omg thank you for being so honest. You don't know how many you're truly helping.
You are so right about making sure to over communicate. I added a confirmation email to our system after a filing but later on by supervisor said I should’ve told her about that email bc I actually needed to add the PDF I missed in that email too
appreciate your videos so much.
Thanks I like the straight forward, easy to understand, advice and tips. For example, I can understand how carrying a notepad can help.
My interview is in 3 hours, thank youuuuuu
Besides template downloads what are other apps that are must haves and helpful to have when starting out. First day next week!
(5) reasons why it is important for legal executives to adhere to their role and the professional expectations within their legal environment and the legal profession as a whole.
Are you able to share a template outlining key plans monthly to present to your Solicitor
I love your content it's so detailed I'm feeling waayy more confident as I'm working towards a Judicial Assistant position
Do you have any templet content? In regards to plagiarizing documents
I just started as a admin assistant for a financial law firm. We don’t have cases rather we have customers ….. but all those tips you just gave will help me so much. I’ve been having such a hard time adjusting and been fucking up a lot and your video has helped me out so much
That's a long interview with a lot of people for a legal assistant position. I've seen large firms or corporations do things like that. It really adds a lot of pressure and stress to the interviewee. Really, imo, they should have you interview with no more than two people, and then if you're a finalist, perhaps interview with a couple more people. I hate questions like "what was a time when you have a stressful situation and what did you do about it?" Every day in the legal field consists of stressful situations! LOL. As for accepting an offer, I would suggest asking about benefits, as you mentioned, specifically (1) health insurance plans - what are the premiums and copays for employees and families (they may say insurance is free, for example, then you find out the cost is enormous to add family/children, and when does your insurance go into effect; and is there an HSA? Are there other benefits such as life insurance, short and long term disability, tuition reimbursement? (2) 401(k) - Does the firm contribute and how much, every pay period or at the end of the year? (3) As for salary, is it starting pay with a chance to receive an increase after a probationary period? Are there bonuses? Some firms offer bonuses when a case settles, and/or at the end of the year.
DON'T JINX IT HOLY CRAP DON'T
Thank you very much for the tip, I thought it was me who have some of the feelings you described
Hi, hopefully i could add you in Fb so that i may personally ask some tips on how to be an effective legal assistant
I was a Legal Secretary/Assistant for over 20 years. I enjoyed watching your video and think you give good advice. Your comments about prioritizing and organization are on point. One thing that I did was, in spite of the calendar we kept on the computer, I kept a back up calendar on my desk and everything I put on the electronic calendar went on my handwritten calendar. People might think that's redundant (and it is!) but many times it saved the day. I loved it when you said to take a note pad & pen with you & write down what is needed when you're given a task. So true!! You gave really good advice! Also, having those document templates will save your life. Recreating everything all the time would take many, MANY hours. Did you take a Legal Assistant/Secretary course, or do on the job training? A combination of both is what I did. I would love to talk to you!!
Hey, I'm looking to get into the paralegal role. Do you mind if I ask what kind or training or certification you obtained? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
@@tazziegirl8231I want to first encourage you to pursue a paralegal career, assuming it's what you are interested in. Like the medical profession, there are always going to be lawyers needing quality staff, and having experience and/or training will help tremendously when applying for a job. I got my start by enrolling in a certificate course at a local community college to be a legal secretary/assistant. A friend I went to high school with had a law office here in the town I live in, and he contacted me and offered me a part-time job in his office to help his assistant with various tasks she just didn't have time for; things like filing, copy projects, etc. ANY experience you can get is a major plus and looks good on your resume when job hunting for a position in a law office! I was working for him and going to school, and when summer came I was working for him full time. When summer ended and it was time to begin the Fall quarter at the college, he asked me if I would like to stay on full time instead of returning to school. So I stayed, and the rest is history!! I got what I was hoping to accomplish, so things worked out perfectly for me. That job he gave me started my career, and I will be forever grateful that he gave me that chance. By the way, we are still friends and keep in regular contact! My family members have gone to him for estate planning and various legal matters over the years. Just to clarify, I was not a paralegal, I was a legal assistant, sometimes referred to as a legal secretary. I did everything a paralegal does, except I did not do legal research. But I drafted and prepared legal documents, and over the course of my career I worked in nearly every area of law. I hope you decide to pursue becoming a paralegal because it is a wonderful career. If you have any more questions, let me know!!
Thank you for sharing
I'm a tax associate for real estate lenders and my job is literally the same as a paralegal which is great because I eventually want to work as a paralegal for real estate attorney's. I'm in school now for legal studies. The only thing that is definitely is we know what our schedule will be.
what transcripts do they ask with ur resume?
Thank you so much for this! I start next week fresh out of uni and am starting to get very nervous 🤩🥰
