Yes a subwoofer is needed plus I need to EQ to bring up the treble, things sound more clear to my ears doing that. I was thinking about getting the aperion novus 5B to replace these. I would recommend the RSL Speedwoofer 10smkii ,the SVS 3000 micro or Rythmik L12 subwoofers to pair with the diamond 12.0.

@@greyshadow7786 thanks very much for this helpful info. I think I may get something bigger. Went with Monitor Audio monitor 100 as I have the space and they can go lower so can get away without a sub. Thanks.

For nearfield or on a desk I would recommend the polk ES15 or the smaller one if space is an issue. It can be placed closed to a wall because of its power port technology.

Amplifier lasted a year1/2. Read comments on amazon saying the same after I had already purchased and the same thing happened to mine. Would not output sound. I would recommend the Rega io or Rotel a11 but might be expensive for you if you are on a budget. I also find that Polk and Dali speakers give you dollar for dollar sound. You can take my word for it. My next purchase would be from those two speaker brands.

@@greyshadow7786 I had Aiyima a07 and Wharfedale 12.0, believe me once I got a real A-B amplifier these things have bass. Class D is trash.

@@katebush8415 I agree with you 100%. I have the Diamond 12.0 and they sound amazing with my Emotiva TA-100 integrated amp and my Marantz PM7000N. And they do not sound small. This speakes fill up my living room (with the assistance of an Emotiva SE-8 powered subwoofer 8"). There is not better speaker in the $200-300 price range if you like warm mids and smooth vocals. The sub does all the low end heavy lifting, in my set up. Now if you are using them alone, I agree they do not produce much bass. These work best crossed over at about 80-100 hz with a sub taking care of the low frequencies.

Everything in the midrange like wind instruments for example trumpets and percussion instruments like toms and marimbas sound amazing and natural. Almost every other speaker I own in the past need eq but not the 12.0. My neumi Bs5 don't sound pleasing without eq. What I don't like is that the bass is very weak even with bass eq its very weak. For some reason certain genres of music don't do to well with this speaker especially rap and hip hop. They sound really good with reggae, Soul, Jazz and sometimes with electronic/dance. I find the 12.0s dont get loud, I was expecting them to be a bit louder. As for movies I prefer them for movies than for music. Certain songs like Lucky Dube Guns and Roses sound really flawless on the 12.0s.

Now would I recommend them for nearfield? Nope according to my taste. Get the 12.1 , Qacoustics 3020i or the PSB alpha p5. From having This speaker I would never buy a 4" speaker again unless you really poor and only can budget the cost of a 4" speaker because they sound a bit congested and dont have that openess to them. Another option would be the focal chora 806 but they a bit big. These would be their best as side or rear surrounds in home theater in my opinion.
