I really enjoy watching your construction methods and the sequencing of the interactive elements of your design. Your vision is quite playful as you film the action of your plan going together. The way you exercise each layer of the design with ease and precision draws me into the statement made by your selection of music as if you are painting rather than building in three dimensional forms. Very impressive for someone so young as yourself. You sound humbled by your talent and I so hope you are to enable more proficiency as you age. Brava la artistry.

I absolutely adore this retrofit! I have an old Tradesman brand table saw that predates riving knives that I bought from a retired woodworker for a steal. It uses this old style trunion/splitter setup (or at least that seems to be what google calls it). But I have been thinking about whether I could just build my own riving knife mount for the blade assembly. Will definitely use this as the basis for it. I'm wondering if it could be possible to make the riving knife easily adjustable/extendable to try and solve the issue you highlighted at the end associated with the raising and lowering of the blade being based on tilt.

10:10 ok he needs new push sticks as well. But this video is 4 years old so if he still has all his fingers intact he probably got som longer sticks by now.

    •  Месяц назад

13 years of woodworking and I can assure you I still have all my fingers :) Cause I film most things on a slightly telephoto lens, sometimes my fingers look a lot closer to the blade than they actually are

Anyone know where I can get some of those drill press clamps at the 4:00 mark?

    •  Месяц назад

Those are milling hold down clamps. They are easy to find but you need a large drill press with t slots that are 1/2 inch at the minimum. Most drillpresses smaller than 22 inches can't take them. www.busybeetools.com/products/deluxe-52pc-clamping-kit-1-2in-x-13nc-wil.html

I think you mentioned that you read your comments so heres a little story for you, though it's nothing compared to the story you have shared building with all of us! ... I cut my first dovetails in the first few months after graduating college, obviously I did not study woodworking. I started with Japanese saw that I still use to this day. In the few years of my woodworking career I cut hundreds of dove tails making boxes for people, always trying to make a fancier drawer, or a better knob.... I landed a job with a renowned chair-maker here in Asheville, 3 years later I went back on my own now with serious draw knife and spokeshave and card scraper skills, now I have found my own superniche which allows me to push my craft. And now! with inspiration from you I get to push at a whole new level...kinda like the 4 minute mile phenomenon. Thank you for posting these videos.

This model of Narex chisels are NOT intended for fine woodworking the same way as a lathe gouge is not intended for carving. I don't see the point here.

    •  Месяц назад

Their fine woodwoking chisels are 3 times the price and still have large flat spots. I also already owned these and didn't want to buy new tools :)

Smart solution. You are very close to the solution for these old Unisaws. Still, the blade has to always be at the same high as the knife. Thanks for the video. Gave me an idea of what to do.

I’m impressed with your engineering skills, though I do suggest you invest in a metal lathe if you’re serious about producing metal objects of beauty. I had a look at your site. Quite impressive-your artistic skills, I mean. I wish you all the best in your creative endeavours!

    •  4 месяца назад

Thank you! I do own a metal lathe now but I still use the wood lathe a lot for metal as it lets me make curves that are either really hard or impossible to make a on small metal lathe. The best option would be a metal cnc lathe but that's a lot of $$ and not as much fun :P

I really can’t stand when content creators use the “virtual tinnitus” like at 7:55. All it does is exacerbate my tinnitus and give a quick +50bpm to my heart from remembering how it happened (hitting an IED in Iraq). Thanks for the unnecessary PTSD before bedtime.
