Chichester Cathedral - central tower visit
Chichester Cathedral was built to replace the cathedral founded in 681 by St Wilfrid for the South Saxons at nearby Selsey. The seat of the Bishop was transferred from Selsey to Chichester in 1075. The original cathedral was consecrated in 1108 under Bishop Ralph de Luffa. In 1187, a fire which burnt out the cathedral and destroyed much of the town necessitated a substantial rebuilding, which included refacing the nave and replacing the destroyed wooden ceiling with the present stone vault, possibly by Walter of Coventry. The cathedral was reconsecrated in 1199.

The bells of SS Peter & Paul church, West Wittering, West Sussex
Просмотров 5112 года назад
Firstly, may I apologise for the rather blurred way this video has come out! The Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul, West Wittering, dates back to the 11th-13th centuries (and renovated in the 19th), although it is likely that there has been a place of worship on the site for some 1200 years. To this day, the church is still used regularly by the Harbour Churches Benefice - West Wittering and ...
Fully Muffled Grandsire Triples at Chichester Cathedral, West Sussex
Просмотров 8 тыс.2 года назад
A recording of a full Quarter Peal (1260 changes) of Grandsire Triples on the bells at Chichester Cathedral, rung on Monday 19th September 2022 prior to the Funeral Service of HM Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey. The bells were fully muffled except for the tenor (heaviest and largest bell) which was muffled at the handstroke only. #bellringing
l was this weekend very interested place ,lots of time in the spire to make a photos
Jungle bells!
I can almost see my house from your video (looking North)
Really interesting Ewan - thank you for sharing
hehehe I was very interested about hearing what these were like! I like ellacombes a lot - here's our local music box ruclips.net/video/9dHH6_DmfVw/видео.html - bit difficult to ring them fasted than this but with practice gets better
I thought they were lovely and special in their own way! In particular I really liked the hum they gave. Going by my own experience and also the many recordings on RUclips, I also am really keen on ellacombes. I think it should be borne in mind that not all bell towers are structurally strong enough to take full circle rings and not all villages are able to raise full bands of full circle ringers. With this in mind, I for one certainly very much hope that ellacombes and full circle rings can continue to happily co-exist 🙂 I’ve just seen your recording of Lurgashall and they really do sound amazing - thanks for the link!
The famous headstock for the camera!
The bell hangers of the time certainly had good foresight!
