WAY late to the party. This video is REALLY helpful! Just wanted to clarify some things in case it helps the next person trying this; FIRST you have to have retried the first part of this mission after you gather at the top of the hill to ambush the "pisser" to the point where you get the option to SKIP CHECKPOINT. SECOND ride the path show in the video, avoiding all the O'Driscolls. Then attack as shown. THIRD, WHEN JOHN DROPS HIS GUN, pick it up, run to your horse and get on it to save the gun. FOURTH, SKIP CHECKPOINT, do not choose retry checkpoint. You will now be at the segment when you're at the perimeter. FIFTH wait for John to drop his gun, and save it on your horse. If you need to retry here a couple of times, just choose retry checkpoint. Do not go for skip checkpoint here, as you will skip this chance to get the second gun. SIXTH, finish the mission. Ive attempted the glitch about 80 times, Ive successfully gotten a companion about half the time. Ive gotten Hosea 6 times and Lenny 4 times. So far Ive never been able to get either of them with their rifle.
