Hahaha. I just cut all the wires and threw it out. Works just fine without it.

How did you determine exactly where to locate the screw (or was it just luck)? Does it completely stop the sliding plastic part? Anyone have a picture of what the internal parts of the switch look like before modifying it?

  • @Fly4aWhiteGuy

A few things that need explanation ... The thing that looks like a spring is actually a worm gear driven by a small motor under the gray area where the slider contacts can be seen. It drives the plunger that you broke off (it's the lid latch) and the two thicker metal pieces that look like contacts are (may be?) attached the plunger and might be the metal that triggers the magnetic sensor (which you removed and jumped across/bypassed). I think the plunger travel is normally limited by a shoulder on the plastic plunger? If I carefully cut the latch section off of the plastic plunger - maybe I won't need the limiting screw you had to add (because the latch on yours is broken off - possibly from prying the lid open?) I hope this helps someone.

On further consideration... I checked if there a magnet inside the lid at the "latch strike"... Yes, there's a magnet. Now I don't know what those two thick metal "contacts" are for 😢

You totally saved me with this hack lol. i have no clue wtf happened to mine the little magnet wasnt working on the inside or something but on top of that i also had to use a new magnet in the top of mine as well so i bought a pack of little refrigerator door magnets but they didnt work so my ex roomate had a reallllly strong one here oaying around my kids are always messing with so i thought....maybe? I just stuck that on the top and it worked some how lol (but i know the real magic was that damn screw! Thank you!)

Brilliant! I'll actually be performing this rigging to my door lock mechanism, tomorrow!! 👍👍. Checked the mother board assembly first and it's in perfect condition with no corrosion. I deduced it's the magnetic clip that keeps throwing the dL symbol as it's not "grabbing" and keeping the magnetic field. I'll let ya know if I'm successful 👋😁

Another option (even easier): remove the magnetic plastic piece that's attached to the underside of the washer lid and locks the lid to the top of the cabinet when the red lock light is on. Once the plastic piece is removed, insert the magnetic piece into the top of the cabinet as if the lid was closed. With the piece inserted the circuit is complete and the lid-lock switch can lock and unlock, but since the plastic piece is not attached to the lid the lid can open and close even when locked.

Know of a way to bypass without having to do that? I have one I would like to watch go through the cycles with lid up. This is my first time running into this type lid lock on the many I have dealt with. It has no protruding or magnetic actuator in the lid itself. The plastic like piece with the open in the center does not look like it comes off.

This ONLY works on Gen 1 Maytag Bravos washers. The same looking models, with Gen 2 boards, with throw a LID error unless the lid is not opened before starting the next load. To get around that, you have to put a switch in between the 2 white wires (run a set of wires to the latch) so that you can disconnect them once to wash another load. I just ran some speaker wires from the latch, up to the side of the washer and connected them to a NC momentary switch. Also, cut the locking bar right at the 1st opening where it comes out , this is where it is flush with the opening when it is pushed out. Then place a flat piece of plastic or metal over the opening and tape it in place. This will stop it in just the right spot when it tries to lock the lid.

@@markjohnson9495I have a Bravos quiet series 300. My lock / switch assembly looks identical. I've done everything except add that limiter screw. I put the magnetic switch back in after bypassing it (to act as the motion limiter) I still get a DL error. Is it hopeless, or is there a chance the screw will help? I can't figure out where two thick metal contacts (about 7/8" long, 1/16" thick bent 90 at one end and like a detent at the other end). I wish I could find a picture of the assy exposed but unmodified - I'm kicking myself for not taking several before I took it all apart.

I removed the latch from lid and lock light flashed when I tried to start washer so I just put the latch in the hole and left it in attached to lid and it works. After the spin cycle stops the lid stays locked for 3 minutes or longer (way to long) when I want to put clothes in dryer. The lid should unlock when drum stops spinning but must be a dumb timer built in which I nearly forced the lid open trying to get to my clothes.

  • @Sertao2013

I just fixed my lid lock . That gray piece that broke can be glued back together . You just lift the gray piece up by spinning the cork screw wire that runs through the gray piece at the bottom. There is a small wire running cross ways and that's what the cork screw wire winds around. When the lock is locked the motor spins the wire and it pushes on the wire in the gray lock piece and moves it forwards When it moves it forwards the metal connections that are attached to the gray piece slides forward and makes contact with 2 other wires . The wire connections move the motor in reverse and forwards motion The gray piece will lift right out once unscrewed the twist the cork screw wire and it will move the gray piece forward and it will come free . The way they made the gray piece that moves forward and fits into the lid is very thin . There is no reason for it to be made that thin . Its a design flaw and should be recalled. Anyways take the 2 pieces and put some crazy glue on both sides where it broke in half . once the glue is hard take some epoxy and build up the open area to thicken up both sides to give it more strength . Besides the lock being made to thin the spring tension on the lid to keep it in the open position so it doesn't slam down is whats causing the lock piece to break in the first place . If there were no spring tension on the lid there would be no pressure on the lock piece. Once you fix the lock piece since the top part is already up just remove both springs or do what I did and unscrew the 2 screws on both sides on the hinge end of the lid and pull out the L shape lid bracket . ground the piece that sticks into the spring tension . There are 2 flat sides of the bracket that fit into the flat sides of the spring tension part What you want to do is grind down the bar till its round and can turn freely inside the spring tension piece . The lid will stay open because it angles back slightly . Once you close the lid and the lock engages there is no upward pressure on the lid lock so it will never break again . Who ever was in charge of the lid lock did not talk to the people in charge of the lid spring tension . The amount of lift on the spring breaks the lock in half . Unless Maytag has thickened the gray lock piece buying a new one without disengaging the lid spring tension its just going to break again and again . I guess that's what they want since they make money every time it breaks . So just don't go out a buy another lid lock without fixing the problem that's causing it to break . Mathew If you don't have any kids in the house or grand kids that might come over when a load is in the washer and your never going to sale it or even give it away to some unsuspected mother with kids that think when she sees the lid lock light up that her kids are safe from climbing up in a chair and lean in to see the pretty spinning shiny thing and falls in. Removing the lid lock is not a good idea . Either find the broken piece and do what I did above or buy a new one and get rid of the lid springs so it never breaks again.
