LOGIC OF ENGLISH - IN DEPTH FLIP THROUGH
Great video and good tips. I started running a homeschool co-op 4 years ago and it has been the best part of our week. I value the moms who have stuck with me with our growing pains and changing and now we maintain a very large waistlist.
Thanks so much! And that's awesome and so encouraging to hear!
Night owl or early bird...didn't take you long to answer that one. :)
@@cindyleis1195 I don't think I could've kept a straight face if I tried to answer early bird 😂
When he said the word “denim” I knew this was the video for me. ❤ Great video guys! Good questions and answers!
haha! So glad you enjoyed it! And thanks so much for your kind words :)
Thank you so much!
you're so welcome!
This is just what we needed! We are going to do a road trip from LA to New York and will be 'homeschooling" our son for the first time for a whole term. We will also be driving through the day as there is no way I could drive through the night and not sleep and then still function the next day!
I'm so glad it was helpful for you! I hope your trip goes smoothly. It certainly is a big undertaking but I know you'll do great! Like I said in the video, every minute you spend preparing beforehand saves you hours of sanity in the car later. And good luck with homeschooling for the first time! I'm sure you'll rock it! :)
@@milehighhomeschool thank you so much! ☺️
Love all of your picks so much and appreciated a look at some curriculum that I have been peeping for awhile! ❤
I'm so glad it was helpful for you! Thanks so much for your kind words 😊 Hopefully you'll be able to follow along this year and see how it all works for us 😊
Love your choices 😍
Thanks!
❤love the sign language idea 💡 I’ve been looking for something besides just the basic RUclips videos for my son. He has selective mutism and some communication difficulties. So, we want to teach him more sign
Hopefully it's helpful to you! I would for sure reach out to her and let her know about your son and his story. She gave us a really big discount because of our son's hearing differences. Her courses are nice and short and simple but still very thorough and well thought out.
I think I need to take a class from you.
That's so kind! Hopefully these videos can be that for you! :)
Spelling: Would a montessori moveable alphabet be useful for this OR do the tile cards do better?
I feel like the moveable alphabet would work for Foundations A, but if you were going past that it might be tricky in Foundations B & C. They introduce the idea of "multi-letter phonograms" (i.e. ch, igh, ck, er, or, ph, th, sh, tch, etc.) and they have the tile cards to match those phonograms. It's more of "spelling by sound" at the beginning, then they learn spelling rules. So for the word "hatch" they would simply identify and locate the phonograms that make the 3 sounds "h" "a" and "tch". Hope that makes sense. If you're looking to save money though, you could just remind your students after they spell a word with the individual letters from the moveable alphabet to identify where in the word is the multi-letter phonogram. I definitely think you could make the moveable alphabet work, it would just be more work on you as a teacher to make sure they identify the multi-letter phonograms. :) Hope that helps :)
We use the Yoto player box and have been loving it for years, similar to the tony box! My kids loved octonauts when they were younger. Such a great educational show!
I have a friend that uses the Yoto box too! It sounds awesome! I love any possible way for my kids to get more audio books into their life 😊
My kids have honestly learned SO MUCH from octonauts! I love it.
me too! It's one of the few kids shows that I feel is educational and doesn't drive me crazy to listen to haha It's one of my favorites for sure. I think I like it more than they do haha
I randomly came across this video. I love that idea that you trade with a friend! How do you work it out to be relatively fair trade? Is there a certain amount of eggs and veggies that your friend gives you for each loaf of bread or batch of cookies?
Honestly she is such a sweetheart she doesn't ever expect anything in return. So I let her choose what she wants for her baked goods, so if there is something she is craving I make sure to make that. Also I also understand that because it is free, if there is ever a week where for some reason the chickens didn't lay as much, or the veggies didn't turn out as expected, it's okay if we're shorted. So we try to keep it pretty casual, usually though she admits she has more than she needs or can put to good use so she is just happy that there isn't food waste and I know that gardening and keeping animals is one of her favorite hobbies and I'm just happy to share my baking with someone.
@@milehighhomeschool That's wonderful! Thanks for sharing :)
I have that same planner and I love it! What a great idea to get the meal plan on a small sheet of paper that just slips right in!
Thanks so much! And isn't it great? I've really been loving it so far too!
😊
I meal plan similarly, though only one week at a time 😂. I'm impressed that you do all of that baking!
That's awesome! And sometimes, one week at a time is just how life works 😊 And you're so sweet! Baking is a fun hobby for me and so it works as a dual purpose to feed the family but also be a creative outlet for me. 😊
I have to admit, it triggers me that you are starting your list of days of the week with Monday......
🤣😂 Brother, you made me actually laugh out loud 🤣😂 Starting with a Sunday would require me to be far more organized and mentally with it on a Saturday than I typically am at the end of the week 🤣
So nice to find another 2nd Gen Mama in this space! Looking forward to more of your content 😊
Thanks so much! And yes! I love getting to meet other 2nd Gen homeschoolers 😊
Great list. Thanks for the recommendations!
You're so welcome!
YES YES YES!! You bring up so many valid points and explained them so well. I hear all of these arguments regularly and people just refuse to get it.
Oh thank you so much for your kind words and support! I'm glad I'm not the only one that hears people say this stuff haha 😂
You didn't know anything about being a parent but they let you take the baby home so why cant you teach your kid
well said friend!
Great video thanks for the encouragement! I’m planning to start having kids next year and know I want to homeschool. This video made me a lot more confident😊
I'm so glad to hear that! Thanks so much for your kind words. I'm sure you'll be a wonderful mom and homeschool teacher 💕
Great video. We love little pilgrims progress. Thanks for sharing. Just subscribed. I also have a channel and would to be friends and connect here.
Thanks so much for the kind words and for subscribing! So glad to hear you like that book too. It's one of our most favorites ❤️
Would enjoy a whole video on Educating the Wholehearted Child.🙋♀️
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll work on planning one out 😊
First time watching you. You are a breath of fresh air !!! I look forward to your future content.
Thank you so much for your kind words Janet!
My daughter started kindergarten in 2020. Her classroom was all virtual and at the time it seemed to go ok. She’s our first, so we had no idea what to expect from school in general. It wasn’t until she was in a physical classroom for first grade that we noticed how much she was struggling. What was so unfortunate is that we didn’t realize how bad it was until the last quarter of the year. Before the school year was over we had decided public school wasn’t the setting that she would learn best in. We’re about to wrap up our second year of homeschool in May, and I have to say it’s been so good. I had absolutely no idea that prior to this time two years ago that I would be a homeschooling parent, nor did I ever think I would have such a heart for it. We have no intention of ever sending her back, nor enrolling her younger brother. Having the freedom to customize their education is such a blessing. My children are able to thrive and have 100% of our support 100% of the time. That is/was our why to begin with, but man, did God surprise us. He’s gently showed us the countless ways that we’re doing the right thing. We’re able to be the biggest influence in their lives, not their peers, and that is priceless. We’re their source for how to love God, treat others, view themselves, respect themselves, form and nurture relationships, and the list goes on. I’m loving the journey we’re on and I can’t wait for another year to see God continue to work in, and through us all.
Wow Brittany! What a powerful testimony! Thank you so much for sharing. That must have been such a hard transition for you guys and a difficult decision to make. I bet it's been so special to see how faithful God has been though. I'm so glad that it's working well for your family and been such a positive experience!
So many great books!! I love all the moms/parents book. I’ve never heard of them and definitely will get them. Also the One blood book! Seems perfect since we are a multicultural family! 😊
I'm so glad! I think you'll really love them. They impacted me hugely. And yes! One Blood is such a great book. I think every family should read it. 😊 Ken Ham does an excellent job throughout and it's great for kids with incredible illustrations too.
Going to be homeschooling my grandson starting this year. I absolutely plan on starting cursive first after I have done all the research into it. I remember when I was little my mother started me with print but had me writing in cursive before I ever even went into kindergarten. At that time my peers were just learning their ABC's and numbers, and learning to print. I clearly remember my teacher crossing out my name written in cursive and telling me I had to always write in print. As an adult that makes me so angry to think that a teacher would hold a child back for being more advanced and make them go backwards in things they already learned. She knew I already printed as well and my writing was very clear and precise for one so young. I much preferred cursive. After seeing the studies on it, it of course makes sense, and only solidified my own thoughts behind starting him with cursive. Thank you for your thoughts on this subject. There really isn't much talk about this topic. Now I don't feel so out of place moving forward with that as my choice for him, hearing someone else say the same things I have been thinking. 😁
I'm so glad this could be an encouragement to you! It is hard when you feel like you're the only one doing something different. I know I'm the only one in my family and friends that is teaching cursive first, but it felt like what was right for us. Sounds like your mom was quite the woman! I'm sure you'll be a far more encouraging teacher to your grandson that your school teacher was for you.
We do cursive first too, i never thought about how weird the transition to cursive was, ha ha, that's so true. I was in public school, and I tried doing cursive because I saw it in a book but wasn't allowed to do it until 4th grade... so weird. Very informative video!
Thanks so much! Yeah I realized as an adult how odd of a transition it was. haha So glad to hear you're doing cursive first as well! How do you like teaching it first instead of print?
@milehighhomeschool it's been really great, haven't had any issues at all and they feel really confident when people in public comment on it. Something we've done is also use sign language Alphabet to help teach the Cursive letters and that's been helpful like the letter C you use the wrist to show how you go up from the base line, some letters you have to hold your hand a little funky but it usually works...
I was just thinking of this curriculum and wondering more about it! Thanks for the flip through! I’m a new subscriber! I also have a RUclips channel about homeschooling!
I can't wait to take a look! Thanks so much for subscribing! Looking forward to watching your videos and hearing what you have to share. So glad you found this flip through helpful!
Thank you for your video. I planned up to 2030 ha ha and then each year I go more detailed and break it down by quarters and plan more detailed from there. Then I reverse plan on a daily basis. I totally get the structure in order to have freedom. I feel a lot more confident and at ease if i have a longterm vision in mind.
That's awesome! Look at you go! I love that you've got a big picture plan and then fill in the details as you need. That's so cool that reverse planning works so well for you as well. That's so cool that you've found something that works well for you. I feel like that's all we can really hope for is to find a system that works for us, even if it's different from everyone else. haha
Thank you this is the curriculum that I've been really curious about and considering getting!
So glad you found this helpful!

I use a disc bound system to have a home management section, meal planning, gardening, homeschool and regular day planning sections. I like your massive note taking book though, I've been thinking about making a discbound journal.... thank you for the inspo. Always fun to find someone you can really relate to and thank you for the encouragement that it's always changing...
Thanks so much for sharing! You're so sweet. :) And I love disc bound planners. They work so well for making it customized to what you need. I'd love to hear how you meal plan and do your home management stuff! So glad you were encouraged and could relate! Hopefully future videos will do the same for you.
Very nice reasons! So many are similar to us! And as a family with older kids, we have seen these advantages of homeschooling play out with freedom to work different hours and choose the subjects of most interest and need. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for sharing! It's so encouraging to hear from other moms who have been homeschooling for longer than I have. I'm so glad to hear that your choice to homeschool is working so well for you and your family!
I also use multiple planners. I sometimes want to combine into one planner but not sure I could have enough pages. I'll be curious to see how well it works for you. Maybe getting a hole punch for a planner might help me do that. Hmmm. Thanks for sharing what you are doing. It gives me so good ideas.
Of course! I'm always happy to share. Now we just have to see if I can keep up with it! haha I find that having the ability to add pages in makes the biggest difference for me when it comes to how regularly I use my planners. I love being able to make it custom to what I need. I'll have to do an update toward the end of the school year about how it's going!
