Jan Noordzij (Organist)

Jan Noordzij (born in 1964 in the Netherlands) is the titular organist at the (Catholic) St. Walburgis Church in Antwerp (Belgium). He also performs every Sunday morning during services at the (Catholic) St. Michael's Church. Both churches feature beautiful romantic/symphonic 3-manual organs, equipped with registers ranging from 1' to 32'. While in Antwerp, he studied under the guidance of the Cathedral organist Peter Van de Velde, which exposed him to French and Belgian organ music.
In his youth, Jan was associated with a strict Reformed church. Although he has since moved away from it, Jan still incorporates music from his past upon request, which is why Dutch psalms and hymns are still regularly performed. Additionally, Jan frequently holds concerts and accompanies soloists.
Attempting to categorize Jan's musical style is a futile endeavor. He plays whatever he enjoys and never declines requests. As a result, his RUclips channel features a wide variety of music.

In that respect, I am in the right place in Antwerp to play his music. It sounds fantastic here. André was the city organist of Papendrecht and composed a lot of music, including no less than 5 organ symphonies.
This (far too short) dreamy Méditation is truly a gem in my opinion. In 2019, I played it during a double concert together with André. That memory is now very dear to me. Prachtig, jeugdsentiment, vond het als puber een heerlijk stuk om op orgelles te spelen. Later in mijn studententijd heb ik psslm 25 nog eens zelf in de Bovenkerk gespeeld. Blijft wat hebben. En in deze donkerbruine registratie heeft het ook wat! Mooi.
Dasnkje Marc, ja voor mij is het ook jeugdsentiment. Jaren heeft het in de kast gelegen, om er nu (zoals jij het zei 🙂) er 'donkerbruin' uit te komen. Ik heb er opnieuw van genoten om het in het Antwerpse te spelen.

Het mooiste stuk van Bach vroeger gespeeld door Virgil Fox op het Wanamaker orgel in Philadelphia. Dat is een prachtige opname net als deze. Dit orgel heeft een mooi volume dankzij Hauptwerk. Mooi Jan ! Je moet alleen het woord dead veranderen in death in de titel

Wieder so ein berührendes Video! So schöne Musik. So gute Worte. Es wäre schön, die Gedichte mit Fotos und einer CD mit Deinen Inprovisationen und Orgel-Arrangements als Buch zu veröffentlichen. Das wäre sicher ein gutes Geschenk für jemanden, der auch gerade Trost und gute Gedanken braucht.

Thoroughly enjoyable Jan. I remember as a child hearing the beautiful melody set to the words 'So Deep is the Night' for a 1940's film called A Song to Remember. It was claimed that Chopin said that it was the most beautiful melody he wrote. If possible, I would love a copy of your arrangement please.
