GRAMOCOLLECT
Добавлен 15 ноя 2013
Hi, I am a collector of old recordings, more for the songs than the rareness of labels, though a few rare ones have come my way.
Stopped looking for 78s but stumble across them from time to time and I share them before the songs disappear forever.
I love music hall and dance band records particularly.

Henry Hall And His Orchestra - Teddy Tails In Town Today
Teddy Tail was before Mickey Mouse around 1915. The first comic strip cartoon daily in the Daily Mail. There was a revival in merchandise around 1933 and I guess this record appeared at the time. Popularity of Teddy Bears Picnic by Henry Hall around the same time, there is nothing of this tune on RUclips makes this very rare. There is all the info on Teddy Tail on wiki. Teddy Tail the mouse with a knot in the tail, I just happen to come across the Daily Mail cutting over the years a long time after collecting this record.

Joe Morrison and his band

As he never produced many sides, this is a rarity! Always loved the Irving Kaufman version.

Arthur Gilbert - When I Woke Up In The Morning
Просмотров 5212 часов назад
The Picture of Arthur Gilbert using one of his pseudonyms Johnny Wakefield. This rare cylinder is just about playable . The picture also poses a question to me, why is the name J.H.Wakefield when it’s just an alias with a middle name?
Victor Shaw and his orchestra - A Letter To My Mother
Просмотров 9314 часов назад
A known song associated with Al Bowlly and another Mayfair record I have seems to do the same. This sounds American but has I think German [pardon my ignorance}vocals as well as English so I have no idea who it is.
The Fifth Avenue dance band - You,ve Got Everything
Просмотров 11514 часов назад
Though I have the small Peacocks label and this 10 inch one, this one was found in Devon years ago whilst on holiday. The small one in the Midlands as you can expect from this label. Both quite rare, this version sounds very American and late in date due to style!
Tony Miller and his band - I promised Sally
Просмотров 12716 часов назад
Yes another Sally song, short hot solo,s after the vocal by Sam Browne.
Harry Fay - My word if I catch you bending!
Просмотров 4416 часов назад
This is the real Harry Fay on Edison Bell recording!
Alfredo and his band -Is She My Girlfriend?
Просмотров 23319 часов назад
A precious piece of information for anyone who is interested in an interview with Alfredo when with the New Princes Orchestra. I have had rarer records in the past but this Edison Bell Radio sums up the kind of recording that was very popular with the band.
The Rhythmic Troubadours - You’ll Be Mine In Apple Blossom Time / I’m Walking In The Sun

Never Seen Another Regal on RUclips like this one.An early double sided 78. It has An A and B start up with two songs In parallel. The sound was not forfeited in any way, I’m lucky I have two of these rare Regals. I put one of these songs on RUclips a few years ago but was quickly copied and re put on by a rogue channel.
Jock McDermott and his New Carlton Players - The Tapper

A new dance craze, tap dancing! One of the rarer Jock McDermott recordings.

Love the output from the picadilly label.
Nice player, great music hall record!
Thanks for this posting & the picture, I know what he looks like at last! I posted several recordings of his under the pseuds of: Arthur Osmond, Johnny Wakefield, his own name & latterly George Cavanagh. All tagged if you wish to browse through them. Here's a lively & naughty one, with a link to some info: ruclips.net/video/prl8DLGJOB4/видео.htmlsi=I5SIi8-36oq2Xm3S
Great 😊
Brilliant. I love Pathe centre start records
Henry King's Orchestra.
@@alexmckenna1171 Yes , thank you now recognise it, must admit not that fond of his style.
Nice pics of Harry, two different characters here, the costermonger & the dapper gentleman. His diverse records suggest he filled multiple comedy roles. He had a good voice for the occasional sentimental ballad, which I have on record. There's now a short Wikipedia article on his career. His daughter is known to have married a director at Decca, tho' this is not mentioned in the Wiki. entry.
@@tiga4180 thanks for the info I will be uploading a picture of Arthur Gilbert soon
@@gramocollect591 That would be interesting, there appears to be little info on him. By coincidence I've just posted him singing: 'John Willie Come On' as George Cavanagh.
@ It’s wonderful to come across piano music pictures of these music hall stars but the downbeat is the songs may never appear. Arthur Gilbert sung alongside Stanley Kirkby and was usually part of these descriptive records with other well known names.
@@gramocollect591 Not come across them as a pair, but both being versatile & 'hornogenic' they'd be sure to make a good duo. Look forward to the pic of Arthur Gilbert.
@ He sung a song about Blackpool, bet it was great!
Im just dying laughing imagining a guy looking like that Alfredo here putting this on after after having sex for the first time and thinking its the coolest thing ever. Nonetheless an interesting time capsule.
Nice tune
He's great. Love hearing his recordings. Thank you
I wonder if Paderewski would have approved..........probably! ❤
Very early Hylton possibly 1921/3
@@davidglow3 Very experimental and raw
This is Dancing Goblin, by Jay Wilbur and his Orchestra, issued on Dominion A-165. It was never actually issued on Filmophone, as far as I know, which makes this trial record very interesting. It was composed by Walter Collins, not Jay Wilbur.
@@MikeThomas78 Thanks very much! Don’t get much shared info! At least my guess that this was Jay Wilbur sounding was right. The other side has the same title but different song. The early Filmophone recordings were supposed to be by a different bandleader, but this trial recording isn’t. I know this song well as I have a few versions but they are hidden in my collection. The information passed on by RUclips and some collectors is sometimes weak and contradictory. A picture of Harry Fay is all over RUclips but it isn’t nothing like him.
@@MikeThomas78 Before Xmas I will post the rare Durium I messaged you about, and an early Mantovani on Four Tune or Broadcast Four.
👍👌
Love this arrangement
Mooches along nicely
@@GramophonicReevolution My collecting days are refined nowadays but my son who don’t have any interest in gramophones keeps finding me more 78s. He has just sent me more pictures of records for me but also a HMV Portable . I know you love players and thought what you might know about an early 1924 -25 . He thinks it’s a rarer one that only 6000 were made.
.......was that FDR?........sounds like him.........
No, the man on this record has a Scottish accent.
Excellent 😊
By the time I came around, in 1951 this was cartoon music only
@@harrykuheim6107 music don’t look back, Hilton quickly progressed.
No one played like that in 1951! This music belongs only to the early 1920s dance hall! To maximum 1924! it was classy dance music for the young upper classes!
Absolutely beautiful 😍🥰 He knows he's onto a good thing 🤣
Car boot in morning, that will wake him up!😂
@@gramocollect591😂did it work??
Nice that . Love a flexible record
What a cool historic record!
Great Edinburgh band. Have you any more?
Not particular band but all sorts of regimental bands .I have a lot of unplayed bagpipes and an interesting rare Scottish label. The proprietors of this label bought Edison’s equipment and only run for a short while.
@@gramocollect591 look forward to hearing more! Thanks for your interesting reply.
The fidelity is quite good, too!
Great! So ahead of their time and I also love the imaginative colours. We've lost newness nowadays! Nothing new under the sun.
Two sides to collecting, love of music, love of artistry.
It must be Harry Bidgood.
The real deal!🙈🙊🙉
Just delightful.
Excellent little Flexi records. I have a couple that i got recently and am pressing them flat enough to play 😁
I like this sound a lot. It is cheerful.
Not sure who it is, it’s got a George Fisher rhythm sound to it!
@@gramocollect591 Might be Allan Selby's band, not 100% sure though.
Harry Acres Winter Garden dance band on other side but a different band I feel. Not enough solo.s for a lot of bands. Thanks for your expert opinion!
@@jazzbo11 It's Billy Cotton's Band, recorded: November 1928.
@@alternateunreleasedshellac505Yep it's BC for sure
Just seen your comment on my little emidisc :) Thanks for sharing this rarity😊
Another great flexi . Love the colours of these
The lovely Florrie . Great record
i love flexi records like these, great share thankyou
I believe he had over 10+ pseudonyms on record.
Always worth looking out for!
Wonderful record, thank you!
Good song, thanks for posting it
@@SavathunSussyImpostor your welcome😀
Just so people understand: This “video” is a copy of a copy of a copyrighted song. That’s supposed to mean that the farther a person is “away” from the original copyright, the less important the infringement. But it’s still infringement. So if a girl hums this tune while she’s doing her homework, she’s still infringing because Copyright extends to infinity.
The song that played on a loop in Robert Graves' head as he waited to go over the top
Very fine Decca studio house band usually led by Arthur Lally with a number of Ambrose musicians.. Maurice Elwin on vocals..
@@davidglow3 many thanks
Prefer the other side but both are lovely 😊
That is lovely. I've not heard of her before. Thanks for the upload cheers Paul
I think her talents were not used enough on the right songs, watch her with Carrol Gibbons live , brilliant to behold, a beauty. Thanks Paul.
love those philips players of which i have a couple 😊sounds great. nice old tunes too
Lucky fellow to have two😅

I think this is entitled ‘I Caught Two Cods Cuddling’. Which is not what you typed, GRAMOCOLLECT.
@@davidbarker5941 Had my eye lasered recently, should have known with Leslie Sarony, thanks
A really wacky or do wacky version. Like the banjolele chorus too. What sort of gramophone is this? Never seen a horn like it before, but the tone arm looks familiar.
@@tiga4180 Columbia Grafonola, hybrid made, love all things Bakelite, the horn has been sliced because of crack on stem but had an alloy sleeve, have originals on other machines but a toy. These Hurlingham band records are quite good as are the Edison dance orchestra and although unknown I think are band connected.
@@gramocollect591 Did many machines have bakelite horns, or did it come from an early radio? There certainly were some great bands back then. The Two Gilberts did a vocal version (its on YT), but unusual for them, I find it slow & disappointing. As for hybrids, how about my 'Wannabe Trade Mark Model' ruclips.net/video/yHyp_tCiico/видео.htmlsi=VjXs7HPwqGGplnmy The gramophone is a 'Marathon' the horn is an Edison.
@@tiga4180 Radio horn, from a car boot, it fell off his van as he opened the back doors. When I think of the years in which I hunted 78s and passed on thousands, yet they are still popping up here and there. A true story, months ago I visited the Black Country Museum, my daughter in law comes from round that area. They have a large collection of early radio , inside is a load of records behind the counter. I asked if she could pass a 78 down and it was a pheonix label. The young girl knew nothing about them and I tried to give a little knowledge which she seemed enthusiastic. Unfortunately next to her was a jobsworth who didn’t want to know anything so it was hurried up.There is a large collection on shelves, worth visiting.
@@gramocollect591 Phoenix of course was a short lived budget subsidiary of Columbia. Not too hard to find, must have sold well. Think these radio horns turn up because the driver stopped working. Yes, plenty of 78's still around, some whole collections from collector's who've passed. Prices are falling as we're a dying breed, with little young blood to replace us. Will be attending Birmingham International Record Fair at National Motorcycle Museum Sun 13th Oct. Worth a visit. Vinyl is gradually taking over, but still some good stuff. Perhaps some cylinders & the odd gramophone for sale.
I really enjoy listening to the classic music hall stars. I have never heard this song before. Thank you for sharing it.
@@TheDonnellymarie It’s always nice to see that other folk enjoys other musical tastes as dance bands seems to hit the spot most of the time. Thanks
Caroll Gibbons was a better composer than piano player.
Beat up but still needs sharing 👍😎
