Eico 147A Troubleshoot
I have purchased over 600 items on eBay in the past and I have had great results! I have only had a problem twice out of the over 600 purchases, which I think is a pretty good record!
Unfortunately, I purchased an Eico 147A signal tracer that has a problem. Normally, if it's a simple problem to repair, I simply repair it, rather than go through the hassle of shipping a unit back. This signal tracer has a broken switch that is not easily sourced. I have looked at the usual parts houses like Digi-Key, Mouser, Newarkand Allied and there is nothing available. I also looked at antique and vintage electronics sites with no luck.
I thought I would post this video of my efforts to check out and rep...

What a BUMMER! Direct Disco "Direct to Disc" unplayable!
Просмотров 2807 лет назад
I purchased a "Direct to Disc" record on eBay. The title is "Direct Disco" by "Gino Dentie and the Family." It is on the "Crystal Clear Records" label and it was pressed in white Vinyl. "Direct to Disc" is a most difficult and demanding process, which records directly onto the master disc that is used to create the final stamper. There is no tape process or digital recording process in between ...
California Audio Labs DAC Modification
Просмотров 5 тыс.10 лет назад
This video documents my efforts to improve the sound of the California Audio Labs "Alpha DAC." This is an excellent sounding DAC that uses 12AX7s and premium capacitors in the audio stages. It was considered near State of the Art in the 1990s. Even today, it is a terrific sounding DAC. This video is primarily about sound deadening and resonance control. Resonance control is very important in tu...

Can you not use two part epoxy glue? looks like it's a clean break.

I thought about trying that,,, however I've had problems in the past since the actual contacts had been bent and they were not reliable. Actual replacement from a "parts unit" is the path I would prefer.

@@RandyShirley Are you designing your own boards (with something like KiCad, which is free) and having your boards manufactured? If so, you might be able to reproduce the board. If you don't have those skill sets, I would be glad to try to help you.

Also, there are cheaper board houses than the Asian manufacturers, for small boards, but YT won't let me post the link, or even say the name of the supplier.I'll check your profile and see if you have listed your email address.

Well, I have tried various email addresses for you. However, I am getting notices that the addresses are not correct. If you still would like my help, can you think of anything other email methods to try?

My Sigma II sounded best with the Cover OFF and some choice vintage 12ax7's.

I have a delta and sigma I . Was wondering if you still have your delta? And if so have you any trouble with the transport drawer opening and closing erratically? If so what was done to correct the problem? And by any chance are you interested in selling these pieces .... if you still own them. Thank you Randy.

Hi friend, your disc must be damage, because I have this record and I can play it without problems. I use to play my records a sony PS X7 turntable and a denon dl103R cartridge.

Yep. It's definitely messed up! I found another copy that plays wonderfully, just like my copy in storage in Atlanta. I was just shocked that the warp was virtually invisible without close inspection. The Dynavector tonearm has a very low mass vertically which aids tracking warped records, and I was surprised that it wouldn't track. Anyway, all is good.. I found another copy!

Great!, is good to know you got another copy of the album, I'm a little obsessed with direct to disc recordings, do you tried with sheffield, Jeton, RCA highest fidelity direct master series and telarc?

Greetings Randy, I enjoy my ancient CAL Sigma 2. I have tried some modern DACs as I was interested in USB capability but they are not as musical as the Sigma (to my ear). I am going to try your mod soon but I am thinking of putting the ventilation holes on the side rather than the top. Less dust problem. Thank you for sharing. Muhsin

Muhsin I also have a Sigma 2. Did you do the modifications and if so, how did it turn out?
