I attended this concert live, my teacher who also attended, Mme Elena Dzamashvili, asked me the following lesson "What did you think of the pianist"? I was a bit shy to give my real opinion to my teacher who knew so much more, so I humbly said "I think it the performance was very good, I really enjoyed it". She responded in complete surprise "Good? What do you mean good? He played like a philosopher, he is a genius!". In reality, I had felt exactly the same way in that concert.

A brilliant performance of a technically difficult, complicated musical "mish-mash." Lots of sound and fury; signifying little.
Nonsense. It's a masterwork, and most critics now accept it as such.
When I was a child people thought the Rachmaninoff Second Sonata was trash. Now, every young virtuoso plays it--if they are able to. Statements such as yours are unacceptable. You back it up with nothing. Any locality with the symphony orchestra, pianist, and chorus willing to put in the work SHOULD perform such repertoire. People get tired of another Tchaikovsky One. I was a student at the unremarkable Jordan College of Music, Butler University, in the '60's, and we had great profs and pianists interested in playing forgotten repertoire. The Romantic Festival founded by Frank Cooper is the foundation upon which such music as the Busoni Concerto is now played.
