Ugh, I'm allergic to fabric softener
I get migraines from the smell of it. I think they make some that is free and clear for sensitive skin. That is what I am going to look for.
So can any tell ne if this does work in 100% cotton? I like modal fabric the best and i wanna actually start sewing my own shirts and ordering modal fabric
Yeah you were right the first time, that’s Pa-rap-a-pum pumice, not poomice 😜
Thank you for watching and pee!
whats up bro, do you also have an olive oil business?
Excellent Thank you !😊
Oooh can’t wait! Thanks for sharing
Do you think a magic eraser could do the job of the pumice stone? I use magic erasers for everything lol
I don't think a Magic Eraser has enough grit to break down the fibers effectively. However, you could use sandpaper on a sanding block in the same way he explained using a pumice stone.
this is the only one of these tutorials that actually sounds like it might work
My shirt has a graphic on that is heat transfer. Obviously I wouldn't want to use the pumice on the parts that have the graphic but do you think this method will be fine for this type shirt is says 100% soft spun cotton it"s a little stiff to me. I don't want it to shrink too much. Thanks for the info.
im doin this
This sounds great. I have some rough t-shirts and I really only care about the side facing my skin, can I just pumice the inside for softness? Thanks for debunking the salt!
will this work on polyester blend ?
Great video!! Thank you! So glad I found this. Just yanked my shirt out of the salt-pot after watching the first few minutes lol. I think maybe the reason the recipe is everywhere and has such mixed reviews is to do with the shirt fabric/makeup. I’ve seen a few sources recommend the salt method for cotton/polyester mixes, but most videos/articles don’t mention the type of fabric at all. I reckon that’s why some folk have had it work a treat and others are let down. ((I know this video is about five years old, but who cares, I found it and it was super helpful!!!!)) Thanks Caleb!
Will this work with denim as well?
will this method fade the color?
Do you really think this is a "tip"? A 4 hour costly process? Yeah I think I'll use my method instead Lol
whats ur method
Is your method like a family secret or something?
@@Throatzillaaa soak in salt
what would be the ideal t shirt material for this project since you say cotton shirts is not preferrablle
I think he means that heavyweight cottons are not prefered, but other cottons are fine
Just bought a few t-shirts from Patriot Depot; I thought they would be good cotton, feel good t-shirts but they are just plain old Gildad? Heavy cotton t-shirts. Bummer. Will still try this method, hoping for at least to soften some (better than nothing) I guess I could just return then but I just like the graphics too much
I have not tried this yet, but you are the only person on RUclips who seems to have done the research and explains very clearly how the process was done.
I’m trying just to fade out the color, from black to grey, not to soften the shirt, what’s the concentration of salt needed to achieve a strong fade? And how many days should i keep it submerged?
Try this 1/8C of bleach mixed with 2C water add this mix to the washer barrel Wash any cycle that lasts at least an hour Repeat until you achieve your color Caution: Doing this More then 2x can cause your t-shirt to go brown
hey man helpful video! i tried doing this and the only thing i’m having issues with is how strong the shirt smells because of the detergent, any tips on how to minimize the strong smell?
use fragrance free softener....
@@blakewood2062 Yup, that's what I just did. Downy makes a fragrance free version...I can't stand the fragrances they put in detergents and fabric softeners!
Run a rinse cycle but add a cup of vinegar to the water at the beginning. Alternatively you can put vinegar in the compartment for fabric softener and run a quick wash. Vinegar removes odors. Professional laundrys use vinegar in this way. It's called souring the wash, but it doesn't sour it removes residual odor. You can also try adding 1/4 cup baking soda just before the end of the wash cycle. Use the orange box arm & hammer, or generic equivalent.
With the tennis balls, soap and stone I'm in about $20. I'll just wear the thick ass beefy-t.
You can skip the tennis balls
The pet store has cheap ones. Get various sizes.
I'm sorry but you are adorable.
I use an old book to put in between the t-shirt while I use the pumice stone on it. Be sure to use an old book that you don’t care about bc it will get scratched up!
I just bought a System of a Down t shirt and I love it, but it's from a second hand store and it feels really rough, it's M and because the fabric is so stiff it looks weird on me.
Can you re-use the same tennis ball more than once?
nah they pop
depends on how many matches you play
Yes.
Hello, do you think that would work on flannels too?
ah yes take a a fucking sanding stone to my tshirt also buy tennis balls!
Why not just wear it until it looks vintage?
obviously but this is for a quick way to get a new shirt to feel and look vintage
@@harrysvu also its kind of unbearable to wear it until vintage feel. Its just too heavy and rough
My Aerosmith shirts from 1986 are finally really comfy so I guess if you want to wait until you're on SS, that's cool but I have concert shirts from 10 or 20 years ago I would like to wear but they are too stiff.
Is there a special way to wash? Particular cycle? Thanks
Are tennis balls necessary?
Yes.
Or use wool dryer balls.
Hey! So I followed every step, but when I put the one cup water and one cup Downy in a small bowl, the shirt soaked everything up. So I can’t submerge it :/
Probably add another cup of each. Idrk
He doesn't say to use 1 cup of water and 1 cup of fabric softener, he says it's a 1:1 ratio -- 1 cup of fabric softener for each cup of water. So if you need to add more water, just be sure to add an equal amount of fabric softener.
He should of said equal parts of each and said use enough to submerge the shirt because I thought the same thing you did lol
Do i have to sand it from inside or outside?
He said both sides.
Lol I'm Dawgsome
Can you use a scouring stick from like a Lowe’s or Home Depot as the pumice Stone?
no
It gets that nippy once we pass 14,000 ft......
This really worked, rescued some stiff shirts I thought I'd never wear!
Kenneth Hough couple of questions, did you wash with cold or warm water? Also, did you tumble dry or use low heat?
I heard soak the T in salt and vinegar for 7 minutes no more no less wash in machine put in dryer take out still damp hang dry ... done
Thanks for the awesome tutorial!
polycotton tshirts are soft and stay soft and wear better, from new
No. Any tshirt I've ever had with polyester in the knit wears and washes terrible. It pills really fast. 100% cotton is the best fabric if you want it to last. Anything else, any cotton blends, will look like crap with wear. Unless you like little fuzz balls all over your clothes.
Will try
Must be cold there
HappySlayer81 A titty bit nipply
i'm not complaining
😂😂😂
A tad nipply
He do be jacked tho
you were no help how about showing us next time
good news lmao are u serious? u can’t follow simple ass instructions w/o a visual?
Listening is too hard
Teddy people learn in different ways. Visual is easier for some people and honestly you’d expect it to be a visual demonstration on RUclips
Yer a bitch
Easier method: White Vinegar (the stronger concentration the better), soak covered for 3-4 days. The acid breaks down the fibers... the longer you let it sit, the more relaxed the fabric becomes.
Dustin 2112 does that fade or bleed colors?
Sounds like it might.
You can actually prevent bleeding of colours by putting either salt or vinegar in your washing machine. So I'd guess no - the vinegar is actually a fixative.
axiom the smell disappears as it dries.
didn't work at all
Will this fade dark t-shirts, do you know?
