From a HD source (no current Blu-ray release anywhere), this a complete reconstruction of the theatrical trailer shown in its original aspect ratio 2.35 : 1, title cards and graphic fonts recreated from scratch.

Hello, the only way to watch the film in HD is through streaming services like Mubi and Amazon, but it seems this is only available in the US region for now unfortunately and with Paramount Pictures holding the rights there is no current Blu-Ray release unless they licence it out to other distributors.

Thanks for posting this! My copy just arrived, and I can't wait to see the transfer: the BFI almost always get it right, their visuals often proving revelatory. Much looking forward to (re)re-visiting this superlative classic; from a time when the gay age of consent was still 21 - and Section 28 continued to exert its stranglehold! I watched the DVD a couple of years back, and the film's held up extremely well. It feels less dated than a time capsule of a period on the cusp of profound social change. The writing is deeply moving, funny - but it has real edges, like prime Loach (with whom this film shares a producer). It's hard not to get swept-up in the exhilarating romance of Beautiful Thing. The film lingers beneath the skin long after viewing. It's an absolute winner, that time has been extremely kind too - serving to burnish it as a minor classic of 90s British cinema. Gay or straight, see it and be wowed! 🐵
