Pretty instrument

Every time I used to hear this song, I got a weird sense of nostalgia, despite never watching the show. Didn't even know it was FROM an Anime, till one day I was humming it and my Dad asked where I'd heard that from. I just kinda shrugged and said, "I don't remember." Turns out, he used to watch the show, and he liked that song, so he'd play it when he did work, and that's where I learned it. It's funny, having basically no idea what this song is about, but still sensing grief from it...
