Inktober is a drawing challenge which takes place each October. There are 31 word prompts to inspire sketches for each day of the month. This is the third year which I've done Inktober, and for some reason I decided to make it harder for myself and also write a story. I took each of the prompts as inspiration for my little chapters as well as the illustrations. Some parts of this story are base...

    Hi Lora! This has been a lot of fun to watch, and very hard to pick out favourites! But 'Hot', the 'empty head', 'Plans', and the phone are just a few, with that touch of genius as well as humour. It's really good to see this standing out among the many run-of-the-mill videos by ArtTubers these days. Yes, theirs are good, but so often, so serious, and so often, using the same online reference photos, subjects and materials as each other...I've been 'very lucky' in having found a few artists who buck the trend, and yes, you're one of those. The actual glass fish was delightful, and I was sad when you said that the glass beads fell off the pins after the time it took to make them. Did you manage to work out why? I love the quiet humour which shows through your art and your commentary, but I felt very deeply for you when you spoke of the Irish goodies and the cycle shop, and the feelings they evoke for you. 🫂 Month four is waiting in my watch later folder, so I'm looking forward to watching that soon.😊

      Thank you! I think I probably only did as much as I did in this book because I did the first sketch the same day that I bought the book! Too much time to think and plan isn't always a good thing haha. After I did my 6 months of sketching, I decided to use the rest for shorter projects rather than wasting the second half of the book. (although I've only done one extra project in it so far... Which I will show at the end of part 6)

    Hi again, Lora! This video is just as fascinating as the first month! Thank you for sharing it wth us. Emperor Rosko! My boyfriend of the time loaned me his transistor radio, and I'd listen to Luxembourg and Caroline under the covers in bed at night! I remember him, Pete Murray, Tony Blackburn, Dave Lee Travis - there were others, but I'm amazed I've remembered these! There's a lady called the nerdy farmwife who has listed soap problems, which might be helpful? Did you begin to learn Nepali with a specific purpose? I'm curious because some of your references (eg Radio Caroline) make me think you're my generation... The only liquorice allsorts I liked were those where I could eat the coconut part and get rid of the liquorice, and they had to be Bassetts. I hated those flat ones with the tiny beads all over them. But if I was given a packet I would separate those with layers, so I could eat the coloured fondant parts! Oh, and your perspective wasn't off with your grater - you were just drawing the overhead view.... Looking forward to the next one. 😊

    • @madebylora
      @madebylora 11 дней назад

      Thank you for your comment (I always like to see long comments). I'm 49 so I don't actually remember Caroline, but I do have some old recordings of Rosko on Caroline from 1966. Thanks for the recommendation about soap problems. I don't think I'll be trying again though for a while. I've got so many other hobbies on the go. There are quite a lot of Nepali people who live in my town so I started off just wanting to be able to say 'hello, how are you?' and it grew from there. I'm not a fan of liquorice either. When I was a kid my grandparents always had them and I used to eat around the liquorice and give those bits back to my nan haha. I don't mind it as much now and will eat them whole but I still avoid the ones that are mostly liquorice. And I also hate the bobbly ones! I have recorded the next instalment today so hopefully I can get it edited later today or tomorrow. Thanks again

It's lovely to watch and listen and appreciate the sketches of everyday life, and the things that matter, things that tell the reality with simplicity and love and sketches from RealLife, recalling memories, not the omnipresent googled 'reference photos' (and somehow, once seen, the same image comes up by other artists!). I have to disagree, though, on the matter of the subject of the video being not exciting enough :) My most favourite content on RUclips currently is watching people share their passion for arts and crafts. Not loud and fast paced videos with loads of editing and expensive equipment involved, where the subject matter is always something grandiose - those no longer interest me . • @madebylora
      @madebylora 28 дней назад

      That’s a good question! In this book I used 100g paper and I find that groups of 4 pages works nicely. For thicker paper I’d probably do 3. More pages will still work but when you have more pages folded together, the middle pages of the group stick out further. In that case it is possible to trim the edge so the pages are all level, but I avoid doing that as much as possible because I always worry I will end up cutting it badly and ruining it. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for your question!

      Thank you, that is so kind of you to say! There are a few videos on RUclips where people show how you can try out bobbin lace without investing in all the specialised equipment first. If you search for bobbin lace without tools, or without supplies, something like that, you should see a few pop up. It sort of feels like the kind of craft that needs the "correct" tools, but it's good to see some DIY cheaper options too. There also some beginner groups on Facebook too where you can ask questions when you are stuck.

    That second explanation of crossing the middle and twisting the pairs, was perfect. I haven't begun bobbin lace yet, but you made it so clear that I'm not afraid of losing my mind when I do start! 😂

      Trust me, you will still lose your mind! Hahahaha! But don't let that put you off trying. It's worth the effort... Eventually haha

    I HAVE to have veggies mixed in with other foods as most veggies don't have a pleasing texture to me.

      I have issues with veg too! Although for me it's mostly the taste that I struggle with, so I have to disguise the flavour. In the past, I found it helpful to make soups although I have to admit they always looked a disgusting brown or green colour, but the taste was ok.

    I had to Google, and "three stone" is 42 lbs!! Congrats!! That is no small thing!!

      Thank you. I did think about putting text up on the screen showing the weight I'd lost in pounds and also kilograms because I know different ways of measuring weight make more sense to people of different ages or countries, but decided I didn't want to put too much emphasis on the numbers (especially as I've mostly regained it anyway haha).

    You poor girl. Having the video issues is so frustrating. One thing that I noticed about my camera is it shuts off after 30 minutes. Your camera might be the same. Another suggestion is to use yes paste. It’s not as wet a glue and it’s archival. I love it.thank you so much for the informative video.

      @@sonseraedesigns Thanks! It’s easier now that I’ve got a bigger memory card, but my camera also shuts off after about 30 minutes! All part of the learning process haha

      @ Yes, I have a really good camera and I have experienced the same thing as I do painting workshops. So frustrating because I can’t hear the camera turn off doesn’t matter how big my memory card is. There’s a 30 minute time limit. Also, the yes paste is amazing. I took a bookbinding class and that is what is used to paste the fabric on to the board. It’s quite expensive but my jar is still good and I’ve had it over 20 years!! Thanks again for the great tutorial.

      Not yet. I've been distracted with other projects and starting a new job etc, so I'm currently still using the cat food box version haha

      Some patterns are harder to follow than others! Since making this video I've had some lessons and that has really helped me. It's so hard to do on your own, just from books.

      @@madebylora sorry I had skipped through the video, and didn't realise you'd made one of the sketchbooks out of brown packing paper! I recently had done a similar thing with a notebook from brown grocery bags! but mine was way way wonkier than yours 😄 you've got the most beautiful covers! something to inspire me ☺ i love this sort of creativity.
