PRIM Crew -- Fishing on the Night Runner
The PRIM crew goes out on the Night Runner. They catch Opelu for live bait, set out the greenstick in the porpoise school looking for tuna, and go bottom fish for Kahala and catch a potential record breaking Red Cornetfish.

On a clear, beautiful day in Kona, the Pacific Rim Crew goes bottom fishing on the Nalu Kea with Bill Jardine and Dan Holt. This was a great opportunity for us to spend some time together outside of the shop and try out some of our products such as the Shout Shotel Jig (which attracted most of our fresh catch). Bloodline and Two Size Hollow Core Splice

Rachel, the "Vinyl Vixen" goes through the step by step process of how to modify bloodline to fit into a splicing needle and how to then cross-splice 300lb hollow core into 500lb hollow core to save a few dollars. Single hook is the only way to go most of the time the second hook as dangling anyway and I’m a wire man and it’s dangerous to have to hooks
And I like soft head the best
You know they say Marlin are color blind but I don’t know Mabey the colors cause a different shadow what do you think ?

What hook? Treble, single, size? No stinger?
a Single J Hook, usually you go up a size for the hook, for example 9" head with a 10/0 hook, 7" head with an 8/0 hook.

Aloha, how far back does the single need to be so as not to tangle the flashabou? Should the tip of the point be beyond the end of the fibers or can the hook be in until the bend of the shank?
Aloha, usually we run it so the point of the hook is completely outside of the flashabou fibers and find that is the best way to get it to not tangle, but I do have some customers that have success with having the hook more inside of the skirts... the hook rig just has to be really stiff and not be able to rotate much at all. Hope that helps!

Hi Tim, Sorry to hear you're confused. We didn't do a tutorial on this method of fishing, just on the line to line connection for this method of fishing. If you skip to the last 20 seconds, Rachel explains that this is for when your reel is filled with 300lb jerry brown hollow core, so yes a rod and reel is used. Usually, the braid will be reeled up but when you hit the bloodline, someone will grab it and hand-line the rest of the palu bag up.

Yes, a head this size would be for marlin!
Why such a short piece of bloodline? What’s the actual purpose of it?
We use it as hand-line for chumming for tuna usually! She only used a small length here for the demonstration, normally you use about 30 ft.
Not the greatest idea to use shrink tube over mono o fluoro
Is that safe? Worried the mono gets damaged in the sleeves when heated? Looks great
@@chalmer72 exactly, 100lb mono turns into 15lb after less than 1 sec exposure to an open flame. You have to be extremely carefull and if possible use a heat gun, not a torch. Or better yet, just electrical tape
You can absolutely use shrink tube over mono as long as you know what you are doing.
@@MarkBosler850 Off course. If you know what youre doing youre not wathcing this videos. But how many unexperienced guys do you think are watching this video and ruining their mono? im not saying it cant be done, it just needs to be done properly without a torch but with a heat gun or hot water, or better yet, use the other tones of alternatives there are out there like steal cable riggings or good all electrical tape

Yes, it creates a different bubble trail and it's highly reflective so more attractive to the fish!
