Land of the Giants 24" Spindrift Build Part 5
The continuing build of the 3D print of a 24" Spindrift from 60's TV show Land of the Giants.
This chapter I'm fine tuning the upper bubble fit, intake grills, and upper hull to the lower hull fit.
It's been a tedious journey to get everything lined up and fitting together without applying massive amounts of filler during the final stages of the build. A little bit of work unlocks the issues with the fit..

This is the fourth part of building a 24" 3D printed kit of the Spindrift from Land of the Giants with the Randy Cooper interior. This spans several months of work since the last update...time is a luxury I do not have. In this segment I continue fitting the interior with the hull, rewire the lighting system for the interior, test Ralph's (Tena Controls) modified lighting board, Build light box...

Composed pictures and notes from my Mobius Seaview build originally posted on SciFi ModelAction back in 2014. This 10 month build is compressed into 25 minutes. in it I show the work that went into putting together the Seaview, Flying sub, and Sea Lab. It came out rather well and is still holding up after 10 years. Enjoy, thanks for following along. L
Battlestar Galactica - Dynamic Digital Creations kit 1/1930 scale parts review

This is a parts review/inspection of the large Re-imagined Battlestar Galactica from the 2004 series made by Dynamic Digital creations in south Africa. The claim to the creation of this kit is that the original source files from the CGI model used in the show were used to design this kit. Reposting a model build of the AMT DS9 Runabout I'd built in November 2015 and had posted on Scifimodel action. I decided to call it the USS Ganges as the name wasn't used so much. I found the pictures and build log of this on an old backup drive and converting it to a video log. Pictures are a little grainy but that's 2015 phon technology as all of this was shot with the camera phone.

      The 1/25 scale figures fit a bit better than the 1/24 scale figure. So I'm leaning more towards that. I have a Lunar Models 1/35 scale which is much smaller, I show a comparison in the first video I posted. The LoG group I joined on face book is saying Mobius is putting out a 20" kit sometime end of the year that is supposed to be pretty detailed. I'd heard its in the 1/32 scale which fits with the flying sub and proteus models they put out years ago. Other than that, I haven't heard anything official.

And turns out there's a nice Diamond Select toy version that's really nice for the price. It's probably not to scale for the 1/350 scale Enterprise but it should work. When I was building my kit, there were 6 or 7 kits for sale on Ebay. The gentleman I purchased the kit from had 9 kits at the time - two of which I had purchased at the time. He explained that the vacuum formed kits were made from one of two fiberglass models that someone had made. They took one of those models and cut it up to make the vacuum form pattern. I am making the assumption that he was one of the two guys who made the vacuum formed kits as he seemed to know a lot of the behind the scenes information about the original fiberglass model as well as the guy that made the original fiberglass Models. My understanding now is that there is 3D print or files of this subject in 1:350 or what ever size you choose to make it. if you do a search of You tube there is one of the guys I follow who is building one. I have no idea where he got it though.

    Hello, Sir. Thank you, for this great V: TtBothS, SSRNS Seaview Diorama build! I was wondering if you could answer a important model building question for me. It's about the Lunar Models Co. Would you know if Lunar Models is still a going concern? I recall that the company supplied resin pieces for model kits from Battlestar Galactica's 'classic' Colonial Viper model kit. Notably, a fully detailed 'cockpit' with clear canopy, and under carriage/landing gear. So that one could build their own 'hero' model Colonial Viper! Would you know if Lunar Models is still around, or if there is some other company has taken over their inventory and I might be able to 'buy' the resin parts I'm looking for, from that particular vendor? Thanking you, in advance. Respectfully Respectfully....

    • @lewilsons

      Lunar models, to my knowledge is no longer in business. One of the founders went on to form Larson designs and somehow I think the Lunar model group went on to have an influence with Polar lights - Mobius. There is a lot of photo etch out there to compliment the models you mentioned.

    • @lewilsons
      @lewilsons 11 месяцев назад

      Oh sweet, definitely like to see more builds of this. as for the figures, I bought them for other projects and got them off ebay. They are either a mix of 1/32 - 1/35 scale and for the life of me I don't remember what scale the box said. Preiser sounds familiar as to the company that made them. I just have them all in a plastic bag now. If I remember correctly, you get something like 10 -15 figures in various poses and clothing styles in the set. They are much cheaper than the Land of the Giants figures on ebay. The guy's nuts for wanting over $100 for the LoG set and they don't look all that good in my opinion. If you google or 1/32 or 1/35 scale figures they do come up in the search. You can do some creative carving with a dremel on the figures to shape some aspects of the clothing to conform the appearance to what you want. That's all I had done for the projects I used them on. I used these figures for the TOS Shuttle and the Lost in space Space Pod. They are close enough in size to get the point across.

      No, no model work in the Kitchen, the finished kits were just placed on the kitchen island to take the video after the Lunar models completion. It was either that or get down on the floor and take the video. The submarines and their bases are so big and take up a lot of space, combined they wouldn't have fit on my work bench. My Mobius Sub resides on the top of a 125 gal. fish tank, the Lunar models Sub that I built for my friend has his Sub sitting on credenza in his living room. They display nicely....Thanks for watching.
