Here from 10 years later and now its time for my passenger side fix! ha! Thanks!
Nice... 10 years is a great run!
Thank's brother under $3 from Loes including my upgrade of 2 fender washers to make it even more secure
I purchased the 3/16 x 3/4inch by everbuilt. What size drill bit do I use?
1/4" drill bit
@dsweeneyjr they didn't have the 3/4 so I purchased the 1/2inch. Would the 1/4" drill bit work still?
@@thahomiegio 1/4" is the correct bit for the 5/8" post. The idea is to make it as tight as possible. If you have a different size post, it will still work, just make the drill hole as tight as you can for the post.
@dsweeneyjr thank you so much. My passenger side burst open a couple of days ago, and I want to see if I can repair it. I'll let you know if I succeed 🫡
@@dsweeneyjr I just fixed it using your advice. It works even better than ever! Thank you so much for your help
Thank you. I used this video about eight years ago and again just now for the second visor. Thanks for helping us.
Great. Eight years is a pretty good run. Glad that I could help... twice!
You made this video 12 years ago and you're helping me out today. Thanks brother!
It's crazy how much time has passed... but the fix still works for my visors. Glad to help!
In the video you say/show a 5/8" post but in the notes it says 1/2". we bought the 1/2" but it is too short. will go get the 5/8" tomorrow. Thank you for the video!!!
TY!
This is amazing. I had to use 5/8 but it did the job. Thank you
Looks like my driver's side is worn out, it droops too much, even after applying this fix. There are so many vendors selling replacements! Any tips about which ones to look at? Amazon has seller's, too.
Edit: I see it is 5/8" now. -Should it be 1/2" (shown below the video) or 5/8" (shown in the video)?-
Will this also work as a repair of an already broken visor?
Yeah, as long as it's not too far gone. It's definitely worth a try, and if it doesn't shore it up... you'll have the parts to add to a new visor. You can buy them way cheaper on ebay than at the dealer. The visor in my video was dangling and the fix held for many years.
@@dsweeneyjr Thank you for the very prompt, informative reply and for the video, excellent in both content and production.
Just to be sure, the half inch is long enough for the Honda Civic? Thank you
@@gbrenner2 I am pretty sure that someone posted on the thread that the 1/2" worked... but I'm honestly unsure. I can't find that person's post.
@@dsweeneyjr Thanks. I got the 5/8". Will install soon.
Thanks Dave. 12 years later this is still helpful. Something I did was to switch the passenger visor over to the driver’s side. I lost the use if the mirrors but I didn’t mind. The repaired visor is now on the passenger’s side.
Hrm. Didn’t work for me, still floppy. They’re on there super tight too.
Sometimes there are just too far gone... Especially if there was no resistance with keeping the visor in the "up" position. Here's what I would do: Find a replacement on eBay, they're MUCH cheaper than going to the dealership... use the parts that you just bought to fix your current visor, and do that exact fix on the new one. This will make 100% certain that you won't have to worry about it breaking again real soon. Without the fix the Honda visor will likely only last about 2 years. With the fix mine lasted ten.
Still have my 09 civic. Been driving without a visor for YEARS. Now I will buy a new pair for about $40 per pair, knowing I will never have to buy a new pair again.
Maybe not forever... but mine lasted about ten years after I did this repair if I remember correctly.
Thank you .iam finally fixed it after watching your video
Hi. I am so thrilled to find your instructions. I have been trying to think of different ways to fix thus for a while. Your me this worked with just one device. I appreciate your help soooo much!!! Thank you.
Glad to hear it, Janice!
You made my day, David. And I no longer have a red stripe across my forehead😄
Awesome job
Great video! Was wondering how I was going to fix my 2010 civic. One thing though, in the video he says 5/8" but the write up says 3/16". For anyone reading this who's tried it successfully, do either size work? Doesn't look as if it needs surgical precision.
Either size works. The idea is to shore up both sides of the visor... I'd suggest the 3/16 as it is more snug on the post.
@@dsweeneyjr oops lol didn't visualize the meaning behind the dimensions. Tried it today but I think the lubrication didn't work so despite the posts it still won't close all the way. Try again tomorrow.
@@mike197243 Hey Mike... are you saying it's so tight the visor won't close? If so, that's strange. Was it a new visor, or repairing the old one? Sometimes the old one isn't faxable... and you need to buy a new one... BUT... do this same fix on the new one, and it will last waaaaaaay longer.
@@dsweeneyjr The old one is tight, like the fulcrum in the frame bolted to the roof won't turn easily. It stays up if I grab it at the metal hinge flap inside the plastic and lift, and probably would have before I applied the repair, tbh. I was just hoping for a full restoration of function, which I'm guessing/hoping lubricating the hinge joint will do. Ashamed to say I can't find the straw that attaches to any of my spray lubes are so I can't get the oil directed onto the axis haha
Hell yea! Great method. Thanks man!
Thanx
When I tell you my 2010 Honda Civic’s sun visors went from broken to brand new for under $4 👏 I appreciate this video. Saved me money. Thank you!
I pretty much repaired the visors on my girlfriend's car the same way. I only used one long #4-40 screw and a nut an washer on the other side for each visor. I used some plastic model paint to make it match. I did this probably about 5 years ago. I was just curious about it today and did an internet search just to see if anyone else did it.
Thanks, man. Worked like a charm on my 2011 Civic!
Who's here in 2023 finally fixing their visors?
Thanks David, doing this now, and it's 2023. Your video has helped many including myself, thanks.
Thanks for the post. 🙂 My repaired visors are still going strong also.
Thanks Bro! This totally worked! Parts are still available at Lowes.
Hi David, thanks for this. We have a 2006 CRV, with a different visor than the civic. Any idea about placement of the screws for CRV visor?
Hard to say exactly, but it's likely similar to the Civic... I would suggest coming down just slightly away from the bar that the visor swivels from. If it's like the Civic that is where the weak spot is and where you need to strengthen.
@@dsweeneyjr thanks! Much appreciated. Your original video is a great step by step.
Hope you're doing well David. Well, you saved me about $60 five years ago and another $60 today. I had to revisit this vid to fix the other visor that broke. Thanks,
Great video my friend. Thank you for sharing this. You could also do a 5% tint banner Across the top of the windshield You won’t have to use the visors as much
Awesome David!! Thanks for this! It really worked!! Made me feel better fixing it then buying another!
Nice! The problem with buying a new one... it'll just break again. I got tired of replacing them. Eventually, this repair will likely fail... but takes many years. The fix at least makes it last a long time.
Hi David. Did you use a Honda visor? I see some knockoffs online but wondering if they would break by drilling into the plastic. Thanks.
Yes... I bought it new on eBay. I'd probably avoid the knockoffs.
Those screws are called "Chicago Screws" or "Binder Screws".
Instead of screws can use a big black paper clip
Mine kept flying off
Thanks David! I have a 2007 Civic. I used your fix for my driver side visor this afternoon, it works great.
Happy to hear it!
In the video, you state that the size is 5/8", but your description says 3/16". Does this vary by the car year?
Nope... those were just posts that I used. Should work on any model year.
David Thank you...65 bucks for a used one ....A USED ONE!!!!!
3rd piece replaced before watching this…thanks 👍
What a fluffy kitty! 😁
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’ve been driving around fighting with that visor for too long! Such a quick and easy fix! Amazing!!
Just fixed my sun visor with your help! Thanks man
Just watched the video, headed to Lowes! Thanks for the cheap easy fix! Amazing idea!
Thanks David...fixed the original visor for $2.19 with your method...love it...you rock 🤘
Gotta add another shout of praise!!! Thank you for the vid. One note, tho. I tried the half inch post, as you noted in your description. They'll work, but I had a tough time with them being a tad short. I even had to use a vice grip to clamp one vizor together so I could get the screw started. I ultimately went back to HD for my 2nd vizor. They did not have 5/8, so I gambled on 3/4, and they were perfect.
Thanks for the tip, Rob!
Thanks for the info on the quick fix. Years ago I got them replaced paid for by the dealership. I never really used them because I knew it was a design flaw. My wife has been using my car and they broke but now they are good to go. Thank you!
Glad to hear… thanks for the post!
These parts are a bit more expensive a decade later but still much cheaper than buying a new visor. Thank you!
Thanks a million, man. Honda in Ontario Canada just quoted me 185.00 plus 13%tax just for the part. Your fix was 10 minutes tops,,works great!!!
Thanks David,I could’ve purchase a Visor ,but then I figure it’s mostly will break also in time and so I didn’t purchase the Visor for my 2007 Civic I just repair the original Visor from my Civic watching David’s video it took me 5 minutes to repair .
Awesome. Mine has been going strong!
Worked like a charm. I only did one minor adjustment. On the drill bit, I used one size smaller and it was a snug fit. Besides that, your video was awesome and saved me having to purchase new visors for my daughter’s Civic.
Thanks, you have a good day.
Just tried it on my broken one, ordered one already b4 finding this fix. Gonna see how long it lasts until I have to use the new one. A million thanks!
