Is there a moral or anything?
Nah. This is a really early work by Lovecraft. He was just figuring out how to tell a story. But generally speaking, Lovecraft didn't include morals in his stories. The Brothers Grimm often did, but sometimes the morals to their stories were really twisted.

An amazing story - seems like a Christianized fairy story - the fairies were forever known to be stealing newborn children... In any case, it is always a wise course to not act contrary to the desires of spirits and fairies. Thanks for reading this great story!
