Buddhism never was fully accepted by the majority of the population regardless ethnic group. Only during the last Tang Dynasty did become more influential in matters of foreign policy and the consequences were their downfall. Even today only 1.5 % of the Chinese in The Peoples Republic and/or abroad are practicioners.
