Yes, as her niece Raina Paris said, a lot of relatives from the paternal side of the family died at a young age from a heart attack, maybe something they inherited, and MM was a smoker too, so it was not a good combination.

I guess we might never know…

her movies are so bad they're not even camp. unwatchable today. lowest-common-demonitor stuff, clothed soft-core porn -- thus wildly profitable in their time. her marriage was two years past a divorce announcement by her husband, who was a closeted gay and popular handsome french matinee idol. together they had formed a production company, with middling success. their life was all about image, and the business called show. "scalding" baths? doubtful -- a scalding bath would disfigure the skin and send the bather into shock before long. 105 degrees F. more likely -- steamy, not damaging, and more than enough to cause the body to perspire profusely and lose water weight, as in a sauna, and warm enough to cause one to pass out if in too long. no report of an autopsy -- if suicide, there would likely have been evidence of barbiturate overdose, as nobody wishing to kill themselves expects the heat of a bath would cause them to pass out and drown. she bequeathed today's equivalent of a couple of million bucks to her husband and daughter. their daughter grew up to be lovely, and had some success as an actress, but blew her money on heroin, etc. hollywood: be careful, kids.
