The sweet shop was Goodall not Goodale and wasnt next door to the Southern Coss pub. It was on the opposite side of Trafalgar Road.
Excellent!
What about the King's Head, Sussex and the Mile Oak. The Mile Oak I believe was classed as being in Upper Portslade before Mile Oak was developed.
The Mile Oak Inn is the first pub on the video
The whole of Portslade Old Village and Lower Portslade has changed over the last 30 years. Way more housing without infrastructure.
It's a shock to see what has happened to Portslade in recent decades. Complete communities gone and replaced by dull, soulless warehousing and sales offices. I guess that's what happens when a small town gets taken over by the bigger town nearby.
Thanks for watching the video and your comment. Whilst the North Street area has been brutally re-developed, the central part of Portslade (Old Village) still retains its charm. We have other videos on the Portslade history channel that show how lovely parts of it still are
RUclips at its very best! More should have been done to protect pubs from closure as they were an important part of the community. Sadly now millions of people across the UK suffer from social isolation, loneliness and suicide amongst men age under 50 has become the highest cause of death. The NHS mental health services are under immense pressure trying to cope with the high number of people being referred and treated 😥🏥👩⚕️
Excellent film 🥳👏👍
Superb video. Emmaus is an excellent charity. Their cafe sells delicious food and drinks 🥪🍳🍩🍰☕️🫖🧋
Very informative, great video. I've never spotted the private entrance.
I live in Trafalgar Road Portslade...This is amazing Andy & Jenni X
An excellent production of a piece of important Portslade history. Well done to all involved!
Excellent, fun, history quiz 👍
Thanks, Mike. I hope you got them all correct
Excellent presentation. Always lovely to see local historian Trevor Povey busy at work. I’m keen to learn more about the history of Portslade, especially during the Roman and World War 2 periods 👍
A wonderful legacy;deserves to be better known.Congratulations to all involved.
Agree music is way too overbearing and the red on black text is also not easily legible. Some work needed from an accessibility perspective. All easily done by a web designer.
Thank you for this video. You inspired me to do this historic trail.
I loved this video. I have recently discovered that I am a descendant of the west/de la warr/cantilupe line. My great-great-grandmother was Corina Marilla Mae West (maiden name) She married into the Ford family. I am totally out of my element being I am from North Carolina, Usa. It seems I am one of the first to actually try to trace her maiden name and not her married name. Therefore, I am soaking up all the knowledge I can on whatever I can find. The hardest so far for me is the properties, I'm sure many do not exist any longer b/c the line can be traced back to the 11th century. I can write down all the titles, peerage, knighthoods, high sheriffs of sussexx and surrey but all most of it says is something to this effect: In 1435 he was appointed Justice of the Peace for Sussex. or West was knighted in 1399, and summoned to Parliament as Baron West in 1402, by which time he held the manor of Harby, Nottinghamshire. He inherited the manor of Newton Tony, Wiltshire, from his father, and the manors of Midsomer Norton, Somerset, and Hinton Martell, Dorset, from his mother. He was later granted joint custody of Beaulieu Abbey. He died in 1405 and was interred at Christchurch Priory, Dorset. no names to the actual houses, manors etc. It would just be interesting and cool to see. I had no idea that the West's were key founders in Jamestown, VA and of Delaware...who knew. I didn't until last week. Anyway Thank you for all your time energy and effort into this video, even the ruins give me some idea . I'm just a poor poor cousin from across the pond, so find me in the peasants house chilling ;)
Great video but why oh why the music? Truly awful selection, too loud for the narration and doesnt work at all. Just gets in the way of being able to actually hear the speech. MIght be 'cool' for a younger audience but my elderly mother couldnt hear a word for the din.
1.27-3.00 in particular. Also would have been good to have a few more Portslade specific facts - otherwise well done.
Dear James. Here is a new version, especially for your mum: ruclips.net/video/OrpcLMVDsl0/видео.html
A credit to everyone involved. A sacred space to Portslade residents whose children will be able to study and enjoy one of our underrated treasures. A brilliant effort.
Posh Portslade! 💰💵💰
Very well done. Portslade Manor House is a treasure and I'm delighted that steps have now been taken to take care of it. Thank you.
Thanks, Elaine. Hopefully you can join us on a Manor Open Day in the future. More Portslade history videos coming soon
Really interesting, thank you.
