Installing Solar in my Pop Up Camper | Vintage Pop Up Renovation (PART 10)
Просмотров 8322 месяца назад
Welcome back to Poppi's renovation! (It's been a minute...) For the first time in a long time I feel like I can see the finish line and it feels so, so good. This week we're tackling a huge project by adding solar to the camper. This system is so important because it means Poppi can go off-grid and not rely on campgrounds. Our solar system runs on a quick disconnect but is permanently installed...
Adding a custom bench | Vintage Pop Up Camper Reno (PART 9)
Просмотров 1 тыс.3 месяца назад
This week we're tackling a small but important project of adding a new custom bench to our camper. We already installed a double seat bench on the bed side but to maximize floor space we're adding a smaller bench seat to this side that will house the water tank. I'm not gonna lie to you. This week I certainly felt out of steam working on the camper. However, it does feel good to *finally* see a...

Kitchen Before & After Reveal | Vintage Camper Renovation
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.4 месяца назад
Welcome back to another week renovating Poppi! This week we are finally getting a project completed... tackling the kitchen renovation. Back in April we gutted the pop-up but kept the original kitchen cabinets to refinish and install again. The kitchen's countertops were replaced and a new cooktop, faucet and hardware were installed, too. How do you like the updates? Because I'm obsessed! Produ...

I just got one for free and it’s pretty nice but I had to patch 2 holes in the canvas and I ripped all the interior shelves out to put new flooring in and build the interior how I want. But I need to paint the canvas to make it look nice. Although it’s in good shape it is stained and it would look nicer painted.
What kind of primer is good for the first time doing your canvas a neutral blue or fark blue
How has it held up so far?
Really great, even with a strong summer heat. Haven't had it through winter yet but many other's have that I've seen with no problems!
I love your videos ❤️
Nice! 🙌🏼 Love the colors and wood. Very chic. 😎
Great video, keep it coming! I’m watching through as I sew our project camper cushion slip covers. 😇 - Rachel
Great job!! We call our DIY style “good enough for camping.” 😁
How is the durabond holding up? I'm going to try something similar for our pop up.
So far so good but the camper hasn’t been tested on the road. I do think with the addition of the wallpaper though any cracks are likely not to show. In my research a lot of people seemed to be using this method and writing it has held up for years though.
(Kendyl Travels) Your RUclips videos are very nice, Who makes the videos?
Did you have to paint primer on the plaster before wallpapering
I didn’t, and haven’t had any problems in the months since with the wallpaper not sticking. I only used the wallpaper adhesive glue.
Pickle white wash❓where did you get that or did you make it❓ Loving your diys❤️
You can buy it at hardware stores- it’s called pickle white wash!
You've got this! I can't wait to see how it turns out.
why can't you dress decently on the beach in a muslim country, can't you show respect to your hosts? is it so hard to wear a t shirt and shorts?
Absolutely love the look! Thinking about something for our vintage project, but we will already have enough patterns going on. Might just paint.
Glad you like it! I thought it turned out great and has held up very well over the super hot summer, too!
great job. I would like to add solar to my pop up. watching your videos has given me some confidence to give it a shot
On the negative terminal of battery you should ONLY have the wire to the shunt and eventually the bus bar. Any other connection to the negative (like to the inverter) should be at the bus bar not the battery directly. The idea of the shunt is to measure total energy in and out of the battery so you can't have other connections (ie bypassing the shunt) as it will give erroneous readings.
The battery has the connections as you mentioned - inverter runs directly to the bus bar, just as everything else does.
Did you put in the parameters of your system into the shunt and controller?
I thought I did but I’ll have to recheck them, thanks!
You may eventually want to upgrade your solar charge controller to an MPPT one. Also, if you get yourself a LiFePO4 battery, you'll have twice the amount of usable watts because LiFePO4 batteries can be brought down to nearly empty. Whereas AGM can only be brought down to 50% before the battery is dead.
Thanks! Decided to go with the cheaper option for now instead of lithium since we don’t plan to stay in it long term!
How did you get such cheap tickets?
That was the price on Ticketmaster for the VIP with my code when the Amsterdam tickets opened. Just the fair market price!
What kind of wood did you use for the cabinets?
Our kitchen and bench is metal that is original to the camper but the new cabinets are pine.
So pretty! I ordered the wallpaper myself. Did you find that you had to have the glue as well or was it sticky enough without it?
Absolutely I needed the additional glue! I don’t think it would have stayed up without it. I’ve watched some DIYs they didn’t include the wallpaper glue and gravity made them fall. 😅
I got rid of my old camper and your making me wish I would’ve just turned it into a renovation project.
Good job! I was wondering if you could cut a hole out in the cabinet to mount the inverter on, so you can plug a device directly without opening the cabinet?
I'll actually be running a wall-mounted extension from the inverter. Currently our only plans are to charge our laptops with the 110 so this will be an easy solution while keeping it in the cabinet.
Nice!
Did you mix the cleaner with water then too? What portions? I’m going to do the same, clean and then paint! How long did it take to dry? How long did the paint take to dry? Did you tape the zippers?
I just used the cleaner to the instructions. Paint dried really fast since it was so think with such a light coat. I left the camper up for 48 hours just to be sure before I closed it again and a few months later I still haven't seen any signs of the paint coming off, creasing, etc. I didn't tape my zippers mostly because the color was so similar to the new one I added! It felt like a waste of time after I started the project. Hope this helps!
I'm English and I've never been 😢 really, reallllllly want to go though
That old popup (frame and base) actually looks to be in pretty good shape, except for the holes in the tarp. From a popup owner to another, be sure to properly support the beds when they are extended out, inspect and lube the cables that raise it up, and don't forget to inspect tires and wheel bearings.
Drill brush is a great idea for cleaning. I am so going to get one.
Look good and taught me something new
Did you do any repairs on the canvas
Did you paint the outside of your canvas
Just the inside is painted with a thin coat to clean it up. I'm leaving the outside as-is but cleaning and adding a new coat of Fabric Guard to help with moisture.
Love that you are listening to fourth wing in the background. Love listening to audibles when im working on stuff
Absolutely! I can't believe people just sit with their thoughts and sounds of power tools working on projects. The best part is I already read the books so it's easy background listening. I've enjoyed listening to some of my favorites during the project!
Thank you for all the tips!
I went to the studios It was absolutely amazing ❤
4:50 those are moroccan hammam towels!!!
Love your self determination
You still in morocco??? Ask your money back!!! I'm angry for you*
you need to invest in some bar clamps. You could have put some glue on that board in both places that cracked, bar clamped it together and you would have never noticed it. I also wanted to point out, in the previous video where you used the chop saw for the first time, never, never, never cut something without holding it tight to the fence (the back part) that could be very dangerous and you could have gotten hurt. If you are afraid of the tool then mistakes happen. If you don't want to hold the wood, then clamp it in place. But never cut it without holding it. Over all your video is nice. Don't forget to seal that new counter top. I suggest boiled linseed oil. Gives it a nice finish and is all natural. If you don't care and want something tougher, then look into Polycrylic by Minwax or Polyurethane. Keep up the good work. Feels good to look back and see that you did that.
Sorry, I meant the first video, Part 1
progress... its lookin good!
So excited for things to be looking up! 😁
Enjoy watching your pop up journey. Its bringing back memories of when I did mine. Just remember, don't neglect the biggest part of the whole thing, your tires and axles. Without those in proper shape you will end up on the side of the street or sitting in your back yard not going anywhere. They can be expensive to fix depending on your situation and how handy your husband/you are. They are two person jobs.
Thanks for following along! I actually had an entire camper inspection upon buying it, which included a look and test of everything under, on, and in the pop-up!
It's looking great, I really love the wall paper
Those support bars under the bed should attach to the frame. There should be small 'plugs' that they connect too
Hi they left by choice. I mean Jews. 😊. The movie John wick 3 was filmed in Essaouira. The part with Healy berry.🎉🎉🎉🎉.from a morraccan American in Marrakech right now
Camper is looking amazing! Hope you video your first overnight experience!!
Thanks for the breakdown Kendyl! Glad to see ya doing well 😊
Welcome to marocco ❤
Hi Kendyl, I am just starting my reno of my 1985 Palomino pop up! I was especially interested in how you painted the canvas on the inside. Mine leaked over the winter and got moldy. Ugh. Super excited to see how you finish yours. I have a lot to do on mine! I just subscribed, too :)
Good luck on your reno! I know how tough it is, especially all the unexpected hurdles along the way. 😅
I know you probably dont wanna hear it. Because it was the last thing I needed to hear as well after completely rennovating mine, but..... those tires need replaced. Like I know most people say ehhh it will be fine they are fine. But then those are usually the ones on the side of the road with a blow out. And they ARE NOT fun! In terms of the mechanical things, you MUST without a doubt and cant just say its good enough, replace the bearings, greese the bearings, change the tires. Trust me on this one!
I second the motion on greasing the axles. Un-greased or old grease can get very hot while traveling and cause failures and blow outs.
Your paint will eventually flake off of your trl. because you neglected to first abrade the surface using a fine grit sand paper or a coarse scotch pad.
LOVE that color! The pop of yellow on the back is so good too!
Is that a tatoo on your arm?? :)
