I have been playing since the game was released & focus on turkey quite a bit, as it is my favorite IRL hunting, right behind whitetail. Note the thick longbeard in my profile pic : ) Sometimes an animal lives for just a millisecond after getting shot with an arrow & will set off the spook alarm. Also if they are too close together when shot the noise of the bow can cause a spook, which seems to be a bit RNG. As you said, sometimes they can be quite close & not spook. Always go by score & ignore weight unless you are comparing two equal score estimates, or competing in a max weight comp. Example...I am looking at two gobblers with a top estimate of 65 score, but one is 9.8kg & the other is 10kg. Take the heavy estimate. Otherwise, score is king for score comps & GM. Top spotting estimate is 10kg & 75 score at max spotting level. The Snakebite is one of the loudest bows to us in game, but it is the quietest (& most powerful) vertical compound to the animals. I always carry it for taking other animals silently. That being said, I use the crossbow pistol as my main turkey weapon because it is so quiet to the animals, & it kills them quick more reliably then a regular bow. If its a bow only comp I swap the Snakebite with the Parker Python (which the Red Dragon is based upon) because of the 5 pin range finder sight & the ability to reach out further if there is a possible comp winner turkey & I am concerned with spooking a bunched up group around the decoys.
