I love seeing this side of japan, possibly even more than the fancy places. There's something unifying and real about seeing people in a place so far away eating the same eggs and bacon that I would here in the states for a cheap tasty breakfast. (Granted mine would be with a side of potatoes instead of on a bed of rice)
Me too! The fancy/famous places are great, but they are usually really crowded, when regular places like this are actually pretty good and much cheaper. We learned to ignore the rave reviews online (despite the temptation) and look out for where locals were actually heading.

7/11 in Japan is a wonderland ;_; you can eat like a king there for only a few bucks!
I am not in to smoothies but for 2 bucks, that looks awesome. here in US at 7/11 we have hot dogs that sit on hot rollers for days if not weeks. mmmmm
