2001 Toyota Sequoia Fuel Pump Troubleshooting and Replacement

Troubleshooting 2001 Toyota Sequoia that won't start. It sputtered and then wouldn't run. I troubleshoot the fuel pump relay, fuel filter, and fuel pump and determine the fuel pump runs intermittently. The fuel pump died at 217,000 miles and needed to be replaced. Took about 3 hours work time. Same work for 2001-2007, as well as Tundras.

How many miles did u have when you replace it. I have 275,000 on mind 2002 model and i had no power what so ever but mess with the battery and power came back on trying to rule out on mind what it is.

There's no certain way to know when it will go out. In our case, the vehicle had trouble starting a few times, so we knew something was up, but didn't know what--until it just stopped working completely. Good luck.

thanks for the tips I have a 2003 with a bad fuel sending unit but I think I m gona put a fuel pump in it while at it with a 168000.00 mils thnks again

What is the best way to drain the fuel tank? I have an 04 sequoia and suspect there is water in the gas tank.
I don't actually know. I think I mention in the video jokingly, make sure your pump goes out when your tank is empty lol. Sorry I'm not more help.
You can get a transfer pump and pump the gas from your gas tank into another container and whenever you are finished you can use the transfer pump to put it back into your tank

What a cluster fuck
2001 Sequoia - Died while driving... would start but then die... then eventually would not start at all. would crank but no start... Was NOT fuses, fuel pump, relays, anti theft, ECU, or fuel filter... Turned out that the wires to the crank sensor were damaged by the serpentine belt! repaired the wires and BINGO it runs!
That's crazy! What a difficult one to troubleshoot.
Curious if your check engine light was on prior to to it dying on you?
@@BryanDavidSmithMusic I had a check engine light yes, but it was not for the crank sensor, which is strange. There was no log of an error with the crank sensor at all.
@@BearJangles I replaced my crank sensor about 4 days and it's like Im driving a completely different Sequoia. Replacing it made 12 codes disappear, including 5 misfire codes, 2 evap codes and 6 codes that are charcoal canister related. I still have 2 lean codes in bank left and right and low fuel pressure so Im about to swap out fuel pump motor with Denso and replace fuel filter. I hope doing those items clears up the 2 remain codes.

Could the large gear can be removed from its box?

We just bought a 2006. Same symptoms. How long did it take you to drop the tank and replace the pump. I'm tempted to do it myself because having a shop do it would cost nearly as much as the car itself

Andrew Chatwin yea. It really wasn’t so bad. If it’s intermittent try to do it when the tank is not full. I also used two floor jacks to drop the tank. Good luck.
My gauge don't work What do u mean..... Reconnect it? And where .. In the fuel tank?
I had forgotten to connect it back up when I put the fuel tank back in. The connector is on top of the gas tank. Then I had to wait white some times before it started working again.

I'm sure you've already figured this out, but I thought I would let you know just in case...the first note actually starts out on the 5th fret of the G string, not the 8th fret of the D string. Great video by the way!

@eaidk it's a Taylor 410-CE from 2000 (i.e. pre-Expression system and post bolt-on neck)

@juano31 Sorry, I don't have any tab, although I'm sure it's on the web somewhere. Find the fret position I'm playing in and then slowly guess at which fret/string combination I'm playing. Use your ear and there will be only one option to choose from. Pause the video after you figure out each note. You're ear is your best asset.
