Some of the early pictures look like breugel , well one of them anyway, but Dutch I believe. However they catch a phrenetic energy of short lived folk determined to enjoy what time away from the grind of work, that they could.

You guys please, what's the title of the tune used as the intro for this video? It's been driving me nuts because I recognize it and can't place the name. Is it Gathering Peascods? Or just something that sounds similar?
It's All in a Garden Green, which starts the same way as Gathering Peascods.

Great music; might be better to sing Nottingham Ale in a different voice to the” Irish” accent.
Ah, but it's not "Irish"! It's Early Modern English pronunciation, also known as "OP"', which we use for most of our songs; thanks to the research of people like Ben and David Crystal we can attempt to recreate the sound of spoken English in the 17th century, though of course some things are still in question, and there's some necessary glossing over/simplification of regional variations (accents in 17th-c England varied at least as much from place to place as they do today). If it sounds a bit Irish, it's no coincidence--the 17th century is when English started to take hold as a spoken language in Ireland (much to the chagrin of many Irish people), and echoes of that can still be heard in modern Irish accents.

Btw he had the first kid in how many years answer correctly which faculty member has a brother who is a professional lutenist. Some Spicoli-ish lax bro i taught who after 3 years knows as much Latin as someone who's never taken it remembered this.
