Custom Pull-Out Shelf (One Day Build)
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Месяц назад
In this woodworking video I build a laminated pull-out shelf in my pantry to accommodate heavy pots and pans. It was my first chance to use my new guide rail square and it worked perfectly. Thanks to @wittworks and @bentswoodworking for the recommendation on this tool. And my wife was super excited to have easy access to all of her cooking gear! Happy wife, happy life :-) Below is a list of som...
Drill Charging Station (with a Twist)
Просмотров 7 тыс.Месяц назад
In this woodworking video, I show you how I built a drill charging station that integrates with my new miter station. I kept the theme of using laminate for horizontal surface and incorporated some soft curves. Below is a list of some of the tools I've recently acquired for my shop. These are affiliate links that help support the channel. Thanks for watching! Massca Pocket Hole Jig: amzn.to/4bt...
Epic Miter Station Build (Tons of Storage)
Просмотров 18 тыс.Месяц назад
This is my first real build. It is a @JayBates inspired miter station where I incorporated my experience with laminate to add a decorative element. I made plenty of mistakes but had fun and was totally pleased with the outcome. I even purchased some new tools to help me with the build. I've listed some of them below. These are affiliate links that help support the channel. Thanks for watching! ...
Thats a good way to scratch the surface
Agree, but the laminate has a peel coat on it so I wasn’t concerned about scratching the surface. But good catch!
How much fun, not including the people that were there. - Chris
The seminars were actually the best part. So informative as to the in's and out's of running a RUclips channel. Highly recommended for anyone in the maker space to take their efforts to the next level.
I attend an event here, The Texas Woodworking Festival, that surprisingly has a lot of the bigger names attend. This year Jonathan Katz-Moses is one of the speakers, plus Jason (Bourbon Moth) and some others. I'll have to look into WorkbenchCon next year, even though I'm not making videos. - Chris
Well done! Saw you later got the track square from TSO. Makes using the tracks so much easier and more accurate. Like someone commented below…you have partaken of the green festool kool aid….oh my,,,you’re in for it now. Ask me how I know, lol.
Thanks! @rw7532 LOL...kool aid...I like to think of it more as a fine wine, you get what you pay for :-)
Hey man, the fix for your measuring mistake is genius! I was thinking to put the spacer on the cabinet. Putting it on the drawer is perfect.
Thanks! But your idea would work just as well. I was just trying to hide the mistake 😭
Nice work! 🎉
Thanks! 😁
❤ very nice
Thank you for the advice!
Very high end job… really smart. Liked & subscribed 😊
Thank you! And thanks for the sub!
You can make yourself a sanding block with 80 grit paper and just sand on the side grain.
Are you referring to the edge banding?
I guess you mean 28.375"/6=4.729166666666667 as apposed to 721mm/6=120.1666666666667 Maybe Old Sun and Bu works better? Maybe rounding works. Any system will give a fraction, Decimal fractions are always better. Everything depends on the thinker. Think 3 times, Measure twice, cut once and always remember Murphy (of Murphy's Law Fame) was an optimist! I build all my cabinets in metric using (32mm multiples) for balanced panels, but most other things in Imperial. I really like your miter station build, but I dislike converting imperial to metric or the other wat around. I build to the measurements of my plan. Now do yourself a favor and Buy a Kapex KS 120 REB. I do not recommend any Festool Drill or Driver simply because the Bit Price is ridiculous, I use DeWalt 20V and Bosch 12V. I do like Festool Corded Routers and the LR 32 Cabinet system that works with the OF1010 and the OF 1400. Whenever possible I use CMT Metric 1/4" shank router bits. I own no Festool Battery powered tools, None. Again. I really like your video and Miter station.
Thanks @royr327! 30+ years ago I had a one-man cabinet shop and had a Blum boring machine with the 7 spindle line boring attachment. I built everything on the 32mm system and it worked great. Fast forward to today, I'm literally starting over. I've definitely been eyeing the Kapex 120. I'm trying to figure out my next "big" spend (bonus check dependent LOL). I'd like to invest in a SawStop and decent router table. And dust control is paramount. So many decisions!
Nice job! Cut your festool bags at the bottom and use a small piece of wood to roll it up, clamp it with small clamps, and just empty the bag that way. It barely leaves any dust in the actual container and you save THOUSANDS in buyer their bags. (I bet someone that’s handy with a needle and thread could sew a zipper on it)!
Thanks @shawnhillis5829 ! Thanks for the tip! I did already buy a 5-pack of bags 😭
@@SmallProjectCentral well I don’t even own one but just watched another YT video on how to save $ with supplies and came across that tip. 😂 I plan to do it with the rigid shop vac after I run out of the multi pack I just bought too 🥲
Great job 👍, well done
Thank you @martinsweetman6796 !!!
WoW! Great job! Looking forwarded to your future builds. Keep up the nice work. Love the greek key laminate. Can you please share where you purchased it?
Thanks @Bulldozzerdoser! Unfortunately this is a discontinued laminate. Formica had this about 8 years ago. You may want to check with your local Formica distributor. They may have left over inventory. I just googled it and saw this. Not sure if they still have. goodvaluecenter.com/index.php?option=com_eshop&view=category&id=640&Itemid=334
Awesome
Thank you!
Pretty slick build. My garage wall on that side has needed a station for many years. Definitely grabbing the track saw before embarking, as I too am very tired of wrestling full sheets through the table saw; for the birds.
Thanks! The track saw is definitely a game changer. You won't be disappointed. @wittworks has some great videos on track saw comparisons. You might want to check him out.
I have seen those as well in my many hours of going down the rabbit hole of woodworking channels.
Cutlist optimizer does allow grain direction. I use it all the time on my phone.
Thanks, I must’ve totally missed it. I will definitely go back and check it out. Thanks for the heads up
@@SmallProjectCentral there's a small blue looking asterisk. That means no grain direction. Tap it and it'll go to arrows going up/down, tap again and it has arrows left/right, tap again back to no asterisk.
Such a cool idea 💡
Thank you!
Great video. FYI Cut list optimizer does allow you to choose grain direction.
Thank you!! I guess I totally missed that feature on cut list optimizer. I'll go back and have a look. Thanks for the heads up!
Wow, best drill charging station I have seen on RUclips. The laminate really makes it pop
Thank you!!!
I didn't understand how to got the pattern on the drawer fronts to match up but they turned out fantastic.
Thank you! I laid the drawer front on top of the decorative side of the laminate, adjusted it to be parallel with the pattern, traced it, and then transferred those lines to the back of the laminate. It was super time-consuming but it turned out well in the end. Thanks for watching!
Nice build!
Thanks @mickey533!
Great job on the miter station. Being a woodworker with tremors can’t be an easy thing sometimes
Thank you! And yes, it definitely provides its challenges. I've been shaky in my left hand for the last 40 years so I've learned to deal with it.
I've had essential tremors for the last 10 years getting progressively worse until last year when I finally went to a neurologist and got something to help. When I'm trying to do something and shake too much, I just take a break and come back to it. - Chris
Most people don't understand why we, as woodworkers, will completely overbuild the heck out of something that is just a jig/fixture/furniture for our shop. But WE know the reasons. This turned out really nice. Take pride and satisfaction every time you walk in the shop.
Amen to that @SaludWoodworks! It's our sanctuary...our happy place. It has to be nice, right!?
Looks great. Good video and editing. Appreciate your willingness to show mistakes and then your fixes.
Thank you! Mistakes are the way we learn, so why not share. Thanks for watching!
The clips don’t stay on well, your idea is probably better!
Thanks! And definitely cheaper 🙌
very nicely done
Thank you very much!
Beautiful work and just in time too because I want to build a miter station. Love the patterned drawer fronts, very nicely done. I’m subscribing for well executed ideas.
Thank you @pauline_diy! Let me know how yours turns out!
Looks amazing! Nice work
Thank you!!
You can use a heat gun or hair dryer to reactivate the glue on the edge banding and use a dowel or other scrap to press it down. Your shop is coming together nicely.
Thanks @averagejoesworkshop! I didn’t even think about that! Appreciate the tip 🙌
Mess up laminate. Squirt acetone between will release. Let dry. Do over.
Thanks @Daniel-jn2wm!
Really good video even when you make errors you show what happened. God knows I have made the same errors on drawers except my drawers were too wide. BTW I use Cutlist + and if you right click on the part in Parts tab you can rotate the part(s). Pretty cool program. I enjoyed your video very much.
Thanks @flatlander523! I will definitely check that out!
That is a beautiful thing!
Thank you! @MichaelBuilds
Looks very nice and clean, I like how it all looks uniform in style as to not be visually overwhelming. Look forward to the next
Thank you very much! And is that a King Charles I see in your profile pic? We have one and love him to pieces
@@SmallProjectCentral I love the mitre station and how you’ve kept it so clean and organized! Actually she’s a miniature australian shepherd or mini aussie but her hair is super thick and she’s partially covered from me lol. I think they’re similar in height, she has a double coat with perky ears and loves to herd anything that moves! My Grandmother had a King Charles long ago and of all the family dogs that was her favorite breed.
Awesome build. Definitely taking inspiration from your setup for my upcoming project. How deep are your cabinets (Both the base and uppers)?
Thanks! The base is 23-3/4” deep and the uppers are just shy of 12” deep
Job well done! Well planned and executed. I’m a new subscriber.
@barstad-9591 Thanks! And welcome to the channel!
Every one of my drills has a different handle size, Some have a grip as straight as a '70s model.
I’m hoping any new drills fit 😂
@@SmallProjectCentral I hope the all fit but, sadly, I don't.😛
Great job it looks great and the hole miter station looks amazing great job
Thank you very much!!!!
Looks great! I like the added touch of adding the laminate. Ive got some projects coming up that I am debating on doing laminate on. I’ve never done it. But I really like the sharp look it gives. And… Good thing you didn’t use your wife’s curling iron…. 😂
Thanks @AngieWilliamsDesigns! I like the look and durability of laminate. Good luck on your upcoming projects. Laminating is really easy, just take your time.
Good job! And thanks for not using my curling iron! 😅😂😘
😁
Great build! look forward to seeing the next step.
Thanks! @SaludWoodworks I’m actually rendering the next video as I type
Nice job but way over my budget ,I would rather buy oak, walnut ash sticks With the $ . Cheers
Thanks! I'm kinda lucky in that I found a local wholesaler that sells to the public.
Great Vid!! What were the rough dimensions of the base cabinets please? Thx!
Thanks! @BergFamilyable the left hand side is 72" wide (each cab is 24"), the miter counter is 28.5" and the right hand base cab is 30".
This is beautiful and all the storage is phenomenal
Thank you!!!
I made a similar error with drawer widths on a cabinet I was building. My drawer slides had tabs on them that I could bend out slightly and that took care of it but I like your solution.
Thanks @ch1ck3n1 I thought about the tabs but I was concerned with the weight I’d be putting in the drawers. Oh well, we learn by our mistakes 😂 Thanks for watching!
nice looking miter station
Thank you @angiewilliamsdesigns!
Time well spent on getting that pattern to line up. Looks great!
Yes! Thank you!
Very nice miter station build!
Thank you very much!
Be careful with that Festool stuff. It will get you! LOL. I started with a track saw and a domino and now I've gone completely crazy for everything they make. I will say, the MFT makes batching cuts out extremely easy. I liked it so much that I ended up with three joined lengthwise and I run the Benchdogs UK fence system. It makes cabinet making extremely easy. Great video!
Thanks @brentprosser7293! I think I do have the Festool bug...lol. It's kinda contagious.
Sooooo true. I started with a domino and now I have track saws, drills, dust extractor, routers......
Awesome build my friend. Keep up the great builds. Look forward to more builds in the future!
Thanks! Most definitely more builds coming
Could you have laminated the sheet of material first and then cut the drawer fronts from the full piece to keep from having to do so much layout?
I thought about that but was afraid I’d get chip out on the laminate. I’m going to try to avoid any geometric patterns in the future lol
What laminate pattern did you use for the drawer fronts? Looks sweet!
Thanks. It’s actually a discontinued pattern. It was a limited time offering from Formica and I had bought three sheets. Glad I saved them
