Top 10 Worst Calls In MLB History
Просмотров 2,5 млнГод назад
My very subjective, unbiased opinion of the top 10 worst calls of all time. Measuring these took a combination of how bad the call was along with the leverage of the situation.

    I notice for the Meals call you cut it off before replays can show how close the call actually was. The context of it being a 19 inning game combined with the ball beating the runner gives the optics of a bad call. But the actual application of the swiping tag leaves a lot open for interpretation. Given the 6 1/2 hour game and natural fatigue for everyone, it’s a shame how Meals got treated.

    Two of those calls were actually the right calls. The infield fly was a good call. An infielder could make the catch with normal effort. Doesn’t matter that the ball landed in the outfield. The play at home - yes the runner didn’t touch home, but there was clear obstruction. The umpire should have called him safe by obstruction rather than simply safe. Yet the outcome was the same.

      @Southprong59 День назад

      Read the entire rule, the infielder must be under the ball and in place to make the catch before the IFR can go into effect - not only was he not under the ball, but he didn't come close to catching it.

      @@Southprong59 A hearty A-men to Kozma NOT being in position for the catch. There are Holbrook defenders aplenty trying to create the claim that Kozma had sufficiently tracked this fly ball...it simply ain't true.

    im not an mlb fan or know the rules but for the holiday missing home 3:16 the catcher is completely covering the base before he even got the ball, so isnt that catchers interference, making him safe no matter what?

    I have watched #6 dozens and dozens of times in these worst calls ever compilations and this is the only one I'll say that the ump actually got it right. The Pirates catcher made a garbage attempt at a swiping tag, missed the runner and thus was rightly called safe. Doesn't matter that the throw beat him by a mile, like the broadcaster kept saying over and over like it was relevant. There was no clean tag, the runner was safe. Also, on another note, screw Jeffrey Maier forever.

    Another awful call: Carlos Beltran’s 6th-inning “foul” ball off Johan Santana that hit the line and should have been a double in what became the Mets’ first no-hitter, and wound up ending Santana’s career. He was never the same after that 130+ pitch complete game, and would have been pulled earlier if there had been a hit on the scoreboard.

  • @jamesrichardson381

    Baseball goes back all the time to tweak things after a game, changing an error to a hit or vice-versa. I don't understand why they haven't done so with Galarraga's perfect game. I know it would be a big, big deal to do so and likely bigger than anything they ever done it on but it deserves it. What really sucks is he never came close to that kind of success again. His career was over not long after after continuing to struggle.That was his moment and it was taken away. What maybe is worst of all is how calm and understanding he was about it. He could have made an umpire (whom other than this instance) had and has been one of the best umpires in baseball feel even worse than he already did but he didn't. ...and yet some people still whine about how long instant replay sometimes takes. I was actually at that Braves vs. Cardinals "Infield-Fly" game. I had never seen a ball that far into the outfield called an infield fly before or since. What the hell were the umpires thinking? Do you know how many times games have been won or lost because a ball falls in between the infielders and the outfielders with a runner on third that allowed him to score? They were so far out there that after the ball hits the ground they would have a hard time throwing to a base in time to get the force out. Which if you didn't know is the exact purpose of the rule. To keep infielders from acting like they are about to catch a pop up with runners on base but let it drop at the last second to get force outs at the bases. Their was no such danger there and to this day I truly think it was the result of the fact that baseball adds 2 umps to each game only during the playoffs and maybe the ump down the line forgot he was not on the infield himself like he usually. Either way as mad as I was I was embarrassed with how many in the crowd through trash. I was sitting there thinking how it made Braves fans look.

    Even if that Jeter Homerun call wasn't as easy to see as it was why on Earth would an ump make that call? Does he think the right fielder just decided tonight he was going just stand there and let the ball creep into the stands? Believe me if a homerun barely sneaks over a wall the fielder is going to give it all he has got to rob the would be homerun. Partly because it saves runs but also they want to do it because it's awesome. I still don't like how the kid was being treated as a hero. I get it's a home game but I would think they would have wanted to win the game themselves not have it handed to them. At least not when you are a big market team like the Yankees. The Yankees and Braves wee both featured which makes me think. It is ridiculous that the people out there who bullied the Indians into changing their name has apparently now moved onto the Braves of all teams. They clearly felt a new feeling of importance with the last team and want to relive it. What is annoying is how is the name Yankees ok but Braves is a problem? Only one is an actual term for a race from a certain region. A quick dictionary search of the name Braves and they would see Native Americans aren't mentioned once. It is a term to signify the brave of any race. Whenever I read someone saying it's offensive I try and point out the obvious and point out that I guess Americas National Anthem is insensitive and racist since "..and the home of the Brave". To say Braves is racist would be the same as saying the Warriors, Titans, even Patriots are so. Indians was deemed such but not a peep about another professional sports team which too is named after a term for certain people from a certain part of the world. The Vikings. Unlike Cleveland which had long since dropped any imagery of an "Indian" the Vikings go all in even having a guy ride a harley onto the field in full get up. Showing imagery of a caricature of a "Viking" even down to the big nose, pale skin, long braided blonde hair and hell even the silly looking metal and fur helmet with horns. So why is one deemed racist while the other is left scot-free? Well sadly the Vikings happen to share a skin shade with the one race apparently it is acceptable to be racist towards. All I can say is I'm happy Braves fans aren't going to give in and change the name. It's one of, if not the most unique name in professional sports. I also point out to those people that they (the people calling for a name change based on racism) that they are the only ones being racist. Considering the local tribes have already made it very clear they have absolutely no problem with the name, and honestly why would they? They are intelligent enough to know what it means. Thus people of another race jumping in proclaiming it is offensive are the ones being offensive by basically saying "the Native Americans don't know enough to know when to be offended so we will step in and tell them when they should be". I know this is off topic but hey.

    Wow, Jim Joyce call spoiling Andres Galarraga's perfect game will go down in history as the worst call, Jim Joyce tells everyone he made a bad call and he say's he could take it back, he says looking at the video replay he said he made a bad call, this is the reason there should be video review of all close plays and make it right, they keep saying that video review will ruin the game of baseball which is a load of crap, they keep saying umpires are humans and they should keep it as it is, terrible calls are made every day and they say we should live with it.
