All I can say is thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. You inspired me to rebuild my lbz engine and the confidence to do it. This is a great set of videos to assist in a full rebuild of a Duramax. Awesome job, very thorough. I had the dreaded piston crack! Pulled the engine. Had the block bored .020 over, head milled and valve job to take care of carnage. I have rebuilt multiple gas engines, but this is my first diesel. I followed your recommendations of using the Mahle gasket kit, and KBDiesel bolt kits. And each step that you outlined for reassembly. I installed the bearings/Rod/Pistons. Torque into place, checked clearance dry with plastigauge. Getting .0015-.002. Then cleaned off the plastigauge, applied assy lube and torqued to final. Repeated on each cylinder. When done, it was very difficult to turn the crank. So I stopped. After agonizing thru the night, I did some google searching. And found a very interesting video by Merchant Automotive. ruclips.net/video/DqiPo5k6RGw/видео.htmlsi=JCRHuyoODold8sgx It explained that the bearings have specific placement. Both bearings are not the same. One has the notch/tang right at the edge of the bearing, and the other notch/tang is inset from the edge. The main bearings are very obvious to how they’re installed. The one with a hole, goes into the block. The other goes in the cap. But the rod bearing difference isn’t blatantly obvious. I have one suggestion for part 2. You mentioned a few times about tight rod bearings and possibly needing to get the rods ground down if tight. Before going this route. I suggest that as you’re showing how the bearing is to be placed onto the rod. Specify that the bearing with the notch/tang on the outer edge has to be put into the Rod. And the bearing with the inset notch/tang has to be put into the cap. When I pulled the Rod caps off, I found that 5 of the 8 were backwards. After correcting the bearing placement, and torquing back to Donald value. The crank could now be turned much easier. Thank you again for a very useful set of instructions. Gery_L

the marking of the piston is very important to get right also, the wrist pin is actually offset 30° for its specific side, love your videos keep them coming! Can't wait to see it run, what turbo you going with big s400?😁

it could be timing .. or bad casting.. iv built a lot of perkins diesel engines and if they are not timed correctly they will brake the crank,, so with brings us to the next question TUNNER WAS THERE A TUNNER ON THIS ENGIN... i will not buy a truck that has had a tunner on it ..... put a nother tunnnnnner on it

Harmonics on a crankshaft not designed for the loads being applied to it.

I purposely left those 2 bolts that go into oil pan from rear plate. Now I can drop it instead of removing trans for 2 bolts.

The hose shop in my area WILL NOT reuse your old hose. Andrew just gave you a warning video about fire. It's on you now!! Rip rap around your culverts would be a great solution to blockage of crap into the drain. History on Cival War, perhaps a segment once a month might be of some interest. Ultimately Mike, it is YOUR channel so do as you please. I or we viewers will either choose to watch or we won't. I can always skip that video segment or watch it. How can you tell if injector cup backed out? Compared to head gasket or something else? I understand you just built your motor so you know what it is. But I'm just wondering?

You must have run out of money doing the diesels and had to step the budget down to gassers 😂😂😂.

Go with an alternate firing order cam. Its amazing that the crank doesn't completely destroy the front of the block when it breaks like that. SBC factory steel cranks typically break at the same point, but the front of the crank usually goes right through the block and you are left with giant paper weights.

All in all, a good video, but never lube the back of your bearings ... they fit tight enough that they shouldn't fall out unless you are pounding on the pistons to get them in and if you are doing that, i'd worry more about a cracked ring. You also do not check any bearing clearances or crankshaft end-play. Just because it spins with a prybar, doesn't mean its going to be ok when running.

Aren't the Duramax cylinders hard coated? How did they hone the coating without ruining it or not doing much at all? Also, just changing rod bolts on the rods will shrink the bores slightly, but not usually enough to make the crank lock up and not turn. Since you didn't check the housing for spec after putting in the new bolts, its hard to say. I'm going to guess the rod was installed backwards and it had no side clearance.

Good job Could you grind the rivits off on the pvc plate to get the sand out ? I would be worried with that sand 😢😮

I have a stock 03 lb7 just intake and straight pipe exhaust 4x4 I want it to drive faster and pull better what’s the cheapest why to go about it ?

What tune do you have on the truck? I just bought a 2011 lml, and it has efi love 5 position tuning. And i wana do a cp3 conversion. Does the exergy pump work pretty good?

great information I'm starting to do the same project finding so much information I thought the rod bolts recommend Streck procedure instead of torque also checking your bearing oil clearance it's a must
