Diving Sipadan

We did two dives at Sipadan. Out of season, so we didn't get the incredible clear water it's famous for but we got a place on the boat with no problem and there were fewer divers around. It is pricey but if it keeps places like this from being trashed and overfished I think it's worth it. The wall of barracuda that appeared out of the blue was quite some spectacle. The current was pretty strong so they took some keeping up with but it was an amazing experience.

Diving Semporna 3 Island Tour

Had a day to kill after leaving Mabul so we took a day's dive tour out of Semporna. So many boats go out on a daily basis but we weren't there at peak season so it wasn't too bad. The area is so beautiful, where ever you look there's just another stunning scene and when you get under water it's just as magnificent. A great day's diving!

They take diving very seriously on Mabul, to the extent of building a fake oil platform as a diving resort. I didn't stay there but did have a dive underneath it. All manor of things have been put down there and have created a great environment to house a variety of critters. Thanks to @jonathanmarker for the macro footage, and @mabulbackpackers1532 for the great dives.

The diving around Mabul is fantastic, a mixture of sites, most of which are great for macro, and there's no shortage of turtles. I've not seen so many dart fish or picasso trigger in one place either. Thanks to @jonathanmarker for the macro footage, I saw a picachu floating along and landing, fortunately I was there to film it! Thanks, too, to @mabulbackpackers1532 for the great diving.

Not far from Mabul is Kapalai resort, a beautiful array of water cabins set on a sand bank, a bit out of my price range but some great dive sites. Stayed at Mabul Backpackers for four days, great place to be! The reef plate goes out a long way but we didn't venture to the edge due to boat traffic. There was plenty to see in and around the pier. A trip to Malaysia started in Lahad Datu. A fantastic wreck dive, it was a bit murky but that was my fault for being a lazy arse, after three days in the jungle getting up at 5 am, I needed a lie in! Finally got around to going through some films I took earlier in the year, this is from a visit to Bali in April. The USAT Liberty at Tulamben is a must do dive if you go to Bali. Don't be fooled by the black pebbles and sand at Amed, the water is crystal clear and beautiful to swim in. Swimming at the beach just off Amed Cafe and you are pretty much guaranteed to see a turtle or two, obviously - don't chase them, they are not bothered by people so will just go on about their business if you leave them alone. Diving King Cruiser & Shark Point

Two of the best dive sites off Phuket, well - in my opinion. Both covered in soft coral with thousands of fish. The vis can be hit or miss, especially on King Cruiser, but we hit it on a good day. We did these and Anemone Reef as a three dive trip, check out the other video of anemone reef, it's quite special! Big thanks to @seafundivers for a great day out!
