EP0047 94 EZ Front Steering Chop & Repair
The 1994 E-Z-GO kept jolting left and right, especially at high speeds, and it turns out the drive's side was bent backwards at least 10 to 15 degrees. Someone must have nailed something pretty hard to bend it back like that, considering the wall thickness of that steel. Time to fix it!

    What batteries did you use for the cart? I’m picking one up tomorrow but I’m unsure what specific battery I need.

      @@xCurzedx Hi, mine has three 12v deep cycle batteries made for a golf cart, but I switched over to three 12v lithium iron phosphate (LifePO4 aka LFP) in an upcoming video. The LFP batteries are a better option but it all depends on your climate. If you live somewhere warm, then there is no issues with LFP batteries. If you live somewhere col, then it's not good to charge them below freezing. Does the one you are getting have dead batteries or none at all?

    • @xCurzedx

      @@2Short2Ride1 Hello! From what I understand it has none at all. I’m picking up 2 carts tomorrow and hopefully making one good one from them both. I was just trying to find out the basic battery type it needs for now. Maybe down the road upgrading like you did.

    • @2Short2Ride1
      @2Short2Ride1 Месяц назад

      @@xCurzedx It's not really like car batteries where you need a specific one. It all comes down to what you can afford. Sam's has golf cart batteries but I think the reviews are mixed. What matters is that they are deep cycle batteries (if using lead acid). I'm guessing yours will also be 36v so you need three of them. What really drives cost is how many amp hours they are rated for. The more amp hours, the more you can drive before needing to recharge. Don't confuse amps with amp hours. Amps is the power (current) flow. Amp hours is how long the current can flow. So, if your cart uses an average of 100 amps an hour and you have a 100 Amp hour battery, you should be able to drive for one hour. However, you can only use half the energy with lead acid batteries, so you'd really only be able to drive for 30 minutes. LFP batteries allow 100% of usage and it doesn't hurt the battery.

      @@xCurzedx If you go to EP 38, those are the same batteries I put into the Caroche in the upcoming episode. And I have several other videos about building my own lfp batteries, where I talk through how lfp batteries function. It's the BMS in lfp batteries that is important to know how they work in case you get lfp's and they stop working. It's almost always due to the bms turning off to protect the battery cells. It's easy to wake the bms up again. I prefer lfp batteries.

      @@2Short2Ride1 ok yea that’s what confused me was if their was a specific kind of battery I needed for it. I didn’t know with it being so old that it needed a certain kind. I appreciate all of the help. I’ll have to see what I can find near my area. Is it a pain converting the cart over to lithium batteries? Or is it hooked up the same.

    Hello the 24volt 8celle 3.2v is 74ah?lifepo4..and acid batteria 75ah 12.8volt? Is corret?

    • @2Short2Ride1
      @2Short2Ride1 Месяц назад

      Hi, each 3.2v cell is 74ah, and when you add them in series, the voltage increases but the amp hours stay the same. So, eight cells would be 24v (technically 25.6v) with 74ah. 16 of these cells is 48v (technically 51.6v) with 74 amp hours. If you put the cells in parallel, then the voltage stays the same, but the amp hours increase. So two of these 3.2v cells in parallel is still 3.2v, but 148 amp hours. 8 of these in parallel would still be 3.2v but 592 amp hours. The lead acid batteries are the same concept. Each 12.8v is 75 ah, and when you put them in series, the voltage increases but the amp hours stay 75ah. So four 12v lead acid in series creates a 48v battery with 75ah. If you put four 12v batteries in parallel, then you have a 12v battery with 300 amp hours. Thanks for the comment and watching the videos!

    Great video! Do you have any documentation on the micro switch that sits on top? I thought I heard you mention built in diode, I assume that’s for the coil suppression, but what pins would be for positive end ? I’m going to use one on a golf cart, and I believe I need a diode , unless I can use the one on the micro switch.

    • @2Short2Ride1
      @2Short2Ride1 2 месяца назад

      Thanks; I appreciate it. It's the 2155-202 Auxiliary Micro-switch Kit for Largest Albright Contactor Caps. I don't know the size of diode that comes in it, so you'll need to research it. Since this is on a 48v contactor, I'd assume it's 3 amps. I believe some contactors have diodes built, but still check for yours. Arc Components Limited sells these but they are out of the UK. I'd check their site to see if they might have any additional info they could email to you. Thanks again for the feedback and checking out the channel. Good luck with you cart!

    What are these cells you are using? The blue shrink wrap on some of them makes me think the cells are used...and that would kind of match the wear on the terminals. Just be careful torquing down those nuts....I know the terminals that are welded on are a lot more durable than the threaded holes but they still likely have a rated torque spec. Is there any reason why you chose to use these cells over the LEV60F's? At $30 each from Battery Hookup its just a stupid good deal even if they were 74Ah 1C cells...but off the datasheet it says they are 2.5'ish C cells and Jehu's testing shows they are truly a 5C if not 8C cell.

    • @2Short2Ride1
      @2Short2Ride1 3 месяца назад

      I'd bought these cells probably four years ago when the prices were still crazy. They are generic prismatic LFP cells. Because they had slight bloating I hadn't decided what to do with them until I started the EZGO build. I figured that they were already on the edge, so I may as well see what I could get out of them. As for the LEV60's, you are spot-on; they are much better and I only got them about six months ago. I do plan to use them in some of the projects, but need to build a case that works well for splitting the pack to 8 cells in each one and then reconnect the BMS. Although they are relatively lite compared to 48v lead acid, trying to move the 48v LEV60 pack is cumbersome. Swapping the LEV60's in is on my to-do list. And as you mentioned, I did just order more of them from Battery Hookup, so I can have multiple packs. Good comments; thanks for the feedback!
