So glad to get this important question from you for discussion here. Assuming it is for 10 Marks, this question has three parts: 1. Classification = 2 Marks 2. Macroscopic & Microscopic features of Gingiva = (2+2) or (3+3) Marks = 6 Marks 3. Note on Non Keratinocytes = 2 Marks 1. Classification = Define mucosa, Two classifications with examples, Diagram if you have practised it before & if you have time 2. Macroscopic features = (a) With the help of a well labelled diagram, depict parts of Gingiva (Free, Attached, Interdental), Gingival groove, Mucogingival Junction, Gingival sulcus, DGJ (b) Write the most important points of each alongwith their C/S. For example, Stippling on Attached Gingiva & its C/S (Presence & Absence), Shape and normal depth of gingival sulcus & its C/S (Pocket), DGJ & its C/S (Apical Migration) etc. (c) COL, its shape & C/S (d) Color of Gingiva & its C/S (Can also write it as first point in macroscopic features or can skip if time is less) 2. Microscopic features = (a) As masticatory mucosa, mention type of epithelium it has and its function (b) With help of well labelled H & E diagram, show the type of keratinisation, 4 layers of epithelium (can describe in tabular form if time is less) , shape of rete ridges, lamina propria and write the most important points of each. (c) Type of epithelium in Sulcular epithelium, JE & its origin, its IBL & EBL, and its C/S (if you have time) (d) C/S of Gingiva being masticatory mucosa 3. Note on Non Keratinocytes = (a) What are Non Keratinocytes, Why are they also called clear cells, their percentage (b) Write most important points related to all 4 Non Keratinocytes in Tabular form (that will save time). For example, Their location, appearance, function, etc. (c) Diagram of each (if you have practised before and have time) Practice writing this answer and for all other long questions like this in 20-25 Minutes and each answer for atleast 3-4 times before your Final Exam!!! That will help you stick to extent & time you must give for each long question in your Final Exam And will help you save time to finish writing all short notes comfortably. Hope it helps!!! @@dentozen Ma'am, could u pls tell: is it better to write the C/S after each subheading or collectively towards the end of the sub question? Because, a couple of our teachers said ki if u write it towards the end the chances for it be highlighted to the examiner are more; is it really so or can we just mention it in bold after each subheading (wherever required/possible).

It is easier to recall and write the C/S along with the related point… If you can memorise the C/S for all the subheadings of a question then write it at end. It gets noticed both ways if you have highlighted it in your answer.
