    Hello. I love how you care for your lithops. I have watched a lot of Lithops videos for a while but most of them are from sunny and warm countries. I am glad to find you. Thank you for showing how you care for those lithops in great detail. Very informative. You just gained a follower. I still have to see the rest of them. I just got new bare root lithops yesterday and I am potting them today. I am looking to know what’s the safest way to do it. By the way I am just a newbie to this but I would hate killing any of them. I have different types of substrates: akadama, kanuma, lava rock, perlite, horticultural grit. Some videos say it’s okay to use akadama and kanuma soil. Others said no as it’s too acidic for lithops.That explains why I have many substrates. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Any advice will be much appreciated. 🙏🏽

    • @CactusCove
      @CactusCove 14 дней назад

      @@Methus2010 I personally would not waste using the akadama or even the kanuma for the lithops, seeing as it's expensive to get hold of. Also Lithops will basically grow on any type of substrate as long as its extremely well draining. So out of the remaining substrates you have listed in your comment - putting the lava rock, horticultural grit and even the perlite together would be absolutely fine. So Mixing lava rock, h. Grit, and perlite together would be fine. Lithops actually do not need any soil or organic components to survive many years, so keep your akadama and kanuma for your other plants. As long as you keep Lithops watered at the correct times during the year, and don't over water, then your Lithops will be happy in any combination of substrates as long as it's very well draining. Plus, displaying your Lithops in a well ventilated place with sufficient light will be the best. If you are located in the UK or Northern Hemisphere then ensure you can provide the best lit area you have, especially if you keep them inside your home. In my experience upto now, Lithops are happy in their pots for many years without needing repotting unless they outgrow the pot obviously. Also they don't need a refresh of the substrate either for many years. But, if you do want to incorporate soil or organic based components into your potting mix, do try and ensure they are not too acidic. Avoid any peat based products. Lithops do not require any fertiliser, but it does not mean you cannot fertilise. So just add a very very small amount, and I'd suggest a slow release type and only then a few granules added. Once per year if at all. Honestly they are not fussy plants, and if you stay on the side of more neglect then they remain happy, and water them at the correct times. Personally I've watched so many videos about lithops, cactus and houseplants etc on trending channels etc without mentioning names, and there's alot of exaggerated information and ideas. Honestly, from my experience you don't need to buy so many fancy products for potting mixes. But I do highly recommend these specific ones: lava rock, Kyodama, pumice and expanded clay granules (fine grade or crushed into smaller pieces). I use all these and they can reused and rinsed. I even still use molar clay, even though it's not seen as popular or on trend, but it's good stuff. Good luck with your Lithops. Thank you for your comment and for watching.

    Days ago I bought a pot of tiny (with biggest ones about 1.5 centimeters and smallest one 0.5 centimeters in diameter) lithopses and they also live in their stock pot that looks like in the video and has similar soil substrate. Some of them have weird white-ish indentations on them that look kind of like healed wounds and one of them has areas that seem to be covered in some sort of loose dried out layer of skin - I don't know whether or not it is normal for them. Should I repot them now or is it better for me to wait for different season?

    How long does it take for the fruit to become visible?

    • @CactusCove
      @CactusCove 3 месяца назад

      @@curious5218 usually during the flowering season, fruits usually appear on this particular one in my collection, about 6 weeks later. If this lophophora in my collection flowers towards the end of the growing or flowering season, then usually the fruits won't appear in time, as the cactus goes dormant, so those fruits will start popping up the next Starr of growing season. But usually 6 to 8 weeks fruits emerge after flowers are pollinated. This is based on my plants grown indoors in the UK.

    I just purchased my first Lithops, mainly because you never see them locally for sale! Secondly, because I was afraid of killing it, but I have had much luck with a Split Rock that I've had for at least 3 years, and it sounds like the Lithops and Split Rock have similar likes and dislikes. But before watching you video, I did remove it from it's plastic tiny pot because it's soil was soaking wet, and is in the process of shedding, and if like my Split Rock, doesn't need to be watered as it uses the old leaves for moisture. You mentioned that they don't need to dry out and heal before planting, but I worry about how damp it still is. I'm hoping to rescue it-not kill it!!!!

    Have you had any luck with growing the seeds? Any interesting color morphs from the cross pollination?

      Yes I've sown the seeds. I harvested them, but put a mixture of seeds together and sown them together. I have very young seedlings, so not grown big enough yet, they germinate very readily and quickly too. Should any survive long enough it won't be for a couple or several years until they develop enough to flower. It's just a fun process to grow from seed. Thank you so much for watching and for your questions 👍🏻😊🌵⛄️

    Dear, can you explain what is this light?

    It was impossible to wet it entirely, it would be a failure.

    Fuck coal, it needed a root-forming agent!

    Apparently it was flooded. Have you tried treating it with a rooting agent? They also rotated the plant a lot and disturbed it. and it was necessary to put it on the sand within a day. I hope they sprayed the area of the fluff at least sometimes.
