Bring back orange buses! 😃
Looks like a Sheerrings bus in that video was in a Ford Capri ?
Awesome!
Whoah! Just stumbled across this vid. Talk about nostalgic! I was a 6 year old lad living on Langholm Close in '87. Good chance it's me or a mate riding the BMX up the close at around 1:40. Seeing Billy the taxi driver too! Like jumping in a time machine 😄 Unreal.
Your famous Gordon ruclips.net/video/JEpqMXtky7Q/видео.htmlsi=GXzf411EhDklXBvu
Do not no where you are going no sound of the street ×what suburbs 😮
Wigan Lancashire united kingdom
So many Ford and Vauxhall cars in this video!!! What is really noticeable in this video is the lack of traffic on the roads, I also remember the old basic bus stops everywhere from my childhood and I remember that Dixons store in Wigan. I didn't live in Wigan in 87 (my parents moved out of Wigan in 1980) but I used to go there often in the early 90's.
I have revisited the area and have made a video of it. ruclips.net/video/JEpqMXtky7Q/видео.htmlsi=TwJQ2D4_dpNKurdQ
I hardly think that the Tourist Board for Wigan will be using this video as an incentive for attracting holiday makers' and high rollers into Wigan. I can remember "fine dining" (fish n chips and Tizer) at the Millgate Chippy and impressing a current young lady with a box of Black Magic or Milk Tray on the back row of the Ritz Cinema. Them days have gone and the youth of today are too busy on their Smart Phones texting. I'll bet that nobody sneaks behind the shops on Market Street for a bit of "How's-Your-Father?" before catching the last bus home. Take-Me-Back!!!
I love seeing all the old fords in this. Escorts, Fiestas Capris, Cortinas the big old Granadas and even the Orion
Galleries under construction there, today being pulled down for redevelopment
I'd just turned 3 when this was recorded. Class.
Thank you for bringing back some happy memories
crazy driving
Before the council wrecked the roads with those stupidly expensive bike lanes that nobody asked for or wanted. Roads not full of pot holes either.
Looked like the 80s...sounded like the 70s.
I have two houses. Once for work my dad is in the army and the other is just a normal house which is in greater Manchester. Just outside of Wigan. I can imagine what Wigan was like in the 80s it probably seemed very nice especially in winter and summer and raining. I support the rugby Wigan Warriors. ❤️ 🤍. 3:22 The light reflection looks like the Ukrainian flag on the camera lens
The car on the drive at the 1:58 mark looks like a Saab, but according to the DVLA it's a Zastava, untaxed since 1990. Never heard of a Zastava. The days when you just stroll onto your local playing field and walk the dog, now they're all being sold off and bought by some local football club and have fences all around them. So much for them being a public field.
I wished I lived in the 80’s Wigan but I was born in 2006
Number one song Michael Jackson i just cant stop loving you
This was on a Sunday afternoon
Back when things still worked and the radio was worth listening to. Browsing LPs in Smiths, indulging my geek in the model & game shop on Market St., and Friday nights down Maxines (?) for rock night - before the music was sidelined for the DJs.
1987 was when U2 did the Joshua tree album
Who knew ? The dash cam was invented in Wigan.
hahah. A 6ft 3 dash cam mounted to my shoulder out the sun roof of a ford capri.
@@gordonmonks hi what was on higfeld Grange avenue before hope school was blit
I don't know why but there's just something so calming about watching this. I wasn't even born yet but looking at what everything used to look like is just really fascinating to me. Kinda wished I could've experienced this ngl
I was 3 years old. Feels like an eternity ago
Just found this and omfg all the memories came flooding back, wish wigan was still the same.
A ride in a Ford Capri MK2, ahh the memories!..I had three, a 1.3 in Sahara Beige with a brown vinal roof, a 2.0S in Red, and a 2.0 GLS in Red...happy days!
I bet you wished you'd kept it with the money they fetch now. One of my cousins owns a white Ford RS Turbo, he lives in Kitt Green/Orrell not for from Prescot Lane.
Anyone know the music at 2:25/3:20?
“Fluff” by Black Sabbath from the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album. The rest of the video is tracks from that album until about nine minutes in, then the last two songs are “Neighbor Neighbor” and “Bedroom Thang” from ZZ Top’s First Album.
This is amazing ! Brings back so many memories of my childhood it’s like time travel ! Thanks so much for documenting real life in the 80s
No boarded up shops or pubs, fewer cars on the road, no rubbish on the streets and a Saddle Junction that was easy to drive through! Bring back the Wigan of those days!
And not one CCTV camera to be seen on a 30 foot pole, no cameras on the sides of buses and every building and shop, cafe, pub, school. college, etc, now they're everywhere taking our privacy away. Now you can't even have a quiet private moment in Mesnes Park without being watched by a CCTV camera, one likely equipped with facial recognition. The council's need to be held accountable for allowing this, but they have as much power as the puppets in government.
But very little to do. I prefer these days. Each to their own.
Cant have a wank in peace these days.
@ 12.46 I'm one of the guys sat on the wall. I remember that day well and I remember looking directly into the camera and wondering if I would ever get to see the footage. And now I have. Crazy.
6:45 is that u on the left mate?
This is amazing. I was born 2 days after this was filmed.
Really cool place ( I went to Notre Dame high school)
Great video. Brings back memories as I moved away from Wigan just 3 weeks after this video was made. Great music too!
Looks better back then town centre exactly same apart from you can drive through it. Love the cars we need to thank our labour MPs not spending a penny on Wigan in over 30 years. Cheers
Brilliant - AND with Fluff by Black Sabbath ❤
Whats the name of the road you turned into at 11:21?
He was leaving Pemberton Rd and turning onto Holmes House Avenue
This is amazing, like a parallel universe. Wish I could jump into the video and go back in time. ❤
Capris and mkii escorts everywhere, no traffic, hooning around and showing off with black sabbath blaring out the stereo. Magic. This is the shit I built my world around. great days, I was a kid back then and it reminds me of my older brothers and just the era in general, summers were better, people were different. Everything was cooler.
Yeah it often seems that way when we were younger. I can't remember it ever raining during the summer hols when I was a kid but it must have done. Probably too busy playing to notice. Summers of 85, 86, 87 & 88 were terrible though. A lot cooler, wetter and cloudier than normal.
Great video and a trip down memory lane. The only thing missing is Gags and Bez drinking Merrydown and abusing passers by at Winstanley shops 😀
Comment of 2020 😂
Ahhh Merrydown cider. I remember it well. Bees knees on a friday night..bottle of merrydown then over to the John Bull for newcastle brown..
@@gordonmonks Then Maxines

Ford Capri looked like a Paris blue laser i had a fleet of capris, also went past Newton Boiler company LTD next door to clays, i did my apprenticeship at Newton Boilers. Its the first time I've seen any pictures or film of it 😢
What's the song from 9 minutes in?
Spiral Arquitect, Black Sabbath (Sabbath bloody sabbath album)
Lots of kids on bikes, not so sure whether there would be as many now. Was hoping I'd see someone I know!
I thought there wasn't much traffic about, I Googled the date, it was a Sunday.
Not a chav in sight......thanks for sharing, great times. Good soundtrack too.
so epic! thanks for posting this! my childhood right there <3
Aw man, you turned off the camera just when you were gonna reach Tippin's Arms
I was born six days after this was filmed.
