A bit context for "CN banned social media", which isn't true when it is phrased this way. For example, Apple and Microsoft systems are not banned. Meta/facebook/instagram, twitter and google systems are blocked though for a specific reason. Those companies refused to comply with local laws, including horrible ignorance in cases of terror attacks that happened in CN 15~ years ago, where communication of the terrorists was done via facebook and facebook refused to help the local police. Also those US networks were heavily engaged in spamming fake news to CN citizens to divide the society and cause trouble. When CN said US actors can't do this and they have to comply with local laws, Apple and Microsoft complied with the laws, but the other companies who refused and tried to double-down on harming CN, had to pull out of CN. So it's not like CN being "authoritarian" for no reason, but they try to protect their society from harm by the war-mongering empire, and as a result of this, harmful networks are not available anymore.
