This scene makes me so sad. From her parents’ perspective, Kie was still behaving as she had when she left and got stranded on that beach. In their minds, they are doing the right thing. However, big, huge, however, JJ is right. They don’t listen to their daughter. Season one she told them time and time again who she was, what she believed in, and they didn’t listen. I think deep down JJ and Kie understand what it’s like to have parents that don’t understand them and that, for better or worse, try to fit them into a box that they don’t want to be in. I think Kie really is mad at them in that last scene. She may smile at them but notice she stays with her friends and with JJ she doesn’t go and hug them or talk to them. I think after kitty hawk, Kie distanced herself from her parents and depended more on herself and her friends.

Telling somebody "I'm sorry you can't handle your dad trying to kill you" is wild

What happens in this scene: Before this, John B and his dad find the diary of Denmark Tanny, but Big John shoots/kills two guys in the process. They go off to Charleston and I think they succeed in finding another clue about El Dorado. Big John tells John B to keep what happens only between them because he doesn’t trust his friends (especially Sarah) given his history with Sarah’s Dad, Ward. John B feels conflicted to tell them the truth but ends up listening to his dad.

WARNING: long post/ rant (sorry) I get the people who say, "But Kie was doing crazy things," even if they don't like her parents. And I get that as a mom, but also as a mom, all I could see from her parents was them continuously telling her they don't like her and want a different daughter. They say she changed because of the boys, but she's just being her, true to herself. So, they just keep showing her, they don't like her and wish for a different daughter, they should have just accepted this is who she is and her mom tried at the beginning of the season, but instead of accepting her, they tried for a day then they sent her to be trained and medicated into a daughter they'd prefer to have. Like, them always ignoring her when she talks about how miserable she was without the boys, when she was playing the part of their perfect kook daughter, she was MISERABLE. As if she doesn't know how SHE feels. They failed her and her mental health. As a parent, I could never understand ignoring my child when she's screaming about how miserable she was, or not just accepting her for who she obviously is. And so they blame the boys, that they never took 5 minutes to get to know (JJ and Pope were never anything but polite and respectful to them before) but they rather judge them on what they "heard" about them, instead of getting to know these people important to their daughter. So, they blame the boys instead of just admitting they'd rather have a manufactured kook daughter, then their amazing, smart, tough, loving daughter. Again, as a parent, I will never understand how they've treated her. They are trash.
