Supporting kratky tomato plants indoors without staking, wires or treillis
Просмотров 6143 года назад
With a small and busy indoor space and different natural lighting conditions throughout the days and seasons, I wanted a system to support my hydroponic kratky tomato plants in a way that would make it easy to move the plants around (I have 3-4 tomato plants, growing from two 19L containers, which means the set-up easily weighs 20 to 40 kilograms). This is the shelving system I devised. In theo...

Background music is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH to LOUD LOUD LOUD Get it together of NEVER NEVER NEVER make another video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!! You answered exactly the question I had!
Sheepskin cushions are The Best Sir... !!! 🙏
Great work Sir... !!! 👏👏👏
unfortunately i can't find silicone pads which fits the headphone models i have (one arctis 1, one soundcore q10 and one soundpeats space). even if i found one miraculously, i don't think they will have the shipping opition for my country. but i'm absolutely fed up with degrading pads, because i have a condition and i sweat excessively (very excessively). they all wither away in a couple of months. hell, f*** the silicone gel even, if i could do DIY, i would have make titanium pads for my headphones, that's how much i'm fed up with flaking and tearing earpads.
they have est!
That gutter thing is like a clipon disc. If you remove it carefully you can slide it in the sponge and then clip it back on. One of my headphones has this feature. But I don't have cushioning that fits on it. Manufacturers should take care of it.
There is always a difficulty when you are not used to building, making, play and doing things with your hands. 2nd, Visualize what you want and imagine the result. A beautiful story of this is Nikola Tesla building the induction motor. He envisioned it, built it in his mind, watch it run, watched it break and modified his design BEFORE he ever built the motor, did this twice and then when his design looked right in his mind, he built the motor. There has been alsomost no change to that motor for 150 years, Yes, some production and bearings got better but the concept never changed. Embrace your mind's ability to see what you want. Go watch a baby try to dink from a glass, NOT a sippy cup but a glass. All learning is mistakes. Take time to envision what you want. Mistakes are wonderful, they show you That Does Not work!
My problem is every ear pad does not hold the headphone speaker panel (?) far enough away from my ear. I am getting some tubing to slide under the earpads of my SONY WH-1000M3 and now I know I can buy the silicone pads for like 13€ on ebay. I have some Mpow "over the ear" which do not fit over my ears at all. I am not sure I care how they look as long as the work well.
Couldn't complete the video because of that annoying music you've used in the background. Sorry👎
The music you've used is very annoying
With brand new earpads such as these, use an airdryer to eat up the plastic lip to get it hot and soft (please use caution - just a little hot, please do not burn/melt the earpads). Then it will be easy to get them into position. The foam is there for a reason - it protects the driver from dust and moisture, and it also filters out a very tiny amount of treble (depending on the foam).
This was very useful to me. I tried doing Kratky outdoors and it was a nightmare, at least where I am. Going to do it indoors now, but with a grow light that I bought. I was thinking of how I could support the plants and I saw this vid. And I actually have a shelf like this one not in current use, and it is even better because it has detachable shelves, and only the casing remains, so I can train the plant inside the actual shelf. Thanks! Question about topping: I thought they said that is a death sentence for indeterminate tomatoes. Does topping make it so that they will only produce fruit once and then stop, or could you have them continually produce fruit after topping?
I am not entirely sure, because that particular tomato plant did not survive the mildew and lack of sun indoors in the winter anyway! I haven't had much luck with pests and diseases, and haven't been spending much time and effort on plants in the past year or so. As far as I know, trimming / topping helps stress the plants and conserve energy for fruits; I'm not sure why that would be much different from removing the "suckers" stems anyway.
@@JeffFortinTam Plants need air flow as well. You need to point a fan at them every now and then. And I don't think placing them near a window will provide for their needs if they're indoors. You need grow lights to supplement it. For pests I just use neem oil. I had similar bad luck with my heirloom tomatoes that I planted outdoors, and I am in a tropical country. Despite the weather being way too hot for tomatoes, there was, paradoxically, not enough sunlight per day. It was intensely hot and humid but there was too much shade in our yard. As for topping, I was given to understand you're supposed to top determinate tomatoes but not indeterminate. Because determinates will continue producing fruit for that entire season if you top it, but indeterminates will stop once you top it. This is because new flowers can only form from new growth/sections of the vine. The old vine that flowered will never flower again. So if you top it, you will only be able to ripen whatever fruit/flowers are already there but you will have no more fruits. Again, this is not true for determinate types.
Situation update 3½ years later: the silicone ear cups still work, without degradation. I've been too busy to record and publish a video on how to cut out and install previous earpads' inner foam baffles into the silicone earpads, but it seems possible, as today I have done so for one of the two earpieces now. Maybe if there is enough demand I could do the other ear and record a video tutorial about that.
Just use 2 popsicle sticks they are flat 🤔
3 Years ago you made: Using silicone gel earpads for ultimate longevity - making durable headphones for your studio How did it turn out?
I'm still using them in the day-to-day. Those earcups have not degraded! Pretty happy with that.
Yes the foam that sits against the driver provides a small amount of acoustic impedance, it's very important to tame the resonant treble peaks. Maybe you like the changed signature, but it is a change, and in most headphones, it ends up much worse without than with tuning foam. But i hate this video because you were just fiddling with the pads for 10 minutes and haven't made an audio comparison assessment, your personal impression, or even comfort assessment. Because pads change sound, particularly the bass conveyance, even regardless of the filter foam. Why does this video exist? Why do 100000 videos exist where people just fiddle with pads for 20 minutes and then nothing?
What is the name of this mathematical problem, if one would want to read more about it?
I can feel this problem coming, when I go to work. I can smell the circles from afar. I'm in Uni, and I do crazy Linux stuff at home, and already having multiple levels of directories or any kind of caching in any context, reminds me of this circles thing. "Unknown complexity"
Incredible to think about the fact that it is not a solved problem for six circles. Really great analogy for increases in complexity. Thank you for this presentation.
As a programmer that being an open problem irks me. It seems so solveable, but im guessing it just scales way more and isnt computationally feasable
wait till you hear about the travelling salesman problem
the foam is to protect the driver from hairs and other dirt. Iv'e had a hair recently stuck on one driver and it makes it sound awful
2 days ago I got the same 202, I dont livestream, if I ever do that, its an extra and very rare... I pre-record with script and add to my edited video... So I dont care for higher models. I combined it with AKG Perception 120...
how did this last you?
I'm still using them today :) the earcups have not degraded.
The foam protects those metal parts from moisture buildup, and your ears from those metal parts. I'd like to hear how silicone pads turned out in the long term.
I'm still using them today, the earcups have not degraded, but I've been too busy and time-constrained to look for the old foams, cut them out, and install them inside the silicone earpads.
A worthy motivation and attitude, which I ( and many others, I believe) appreciate very much. Thank you Jeff and co. cb
202 don't have MIDI & It Monitors in stereo so channel 1 left ear & channel 2 right ear
Behringer UMC204HD, a fairly cheap interface with professional sound and unique features
I just removed the flaking stuff, and washed them, now i use them since 3 jears now...
does it fit Boltune BT-BH010?
Earpads are probably the second most important part for sound. You just changed the tuning of your headphones without even knowing about it. Changing earpads, even swapping old ones for identical new audibly changes the tuning. Same goes for the filter foam that reduces high frequencies.
So make us a video about this don't just tell us No No, Tell us How to tune the headphones. I roast my own coffee and then add what I like and my "nose in the air coffee sniffers" tell me what I am doing wrong but I fucking hate Their coffee. So How are earpads important? I have 5 sets of earphones. 2 actually fit Over my ears and do not push the cartilage of my ear but all Press on my ear because they are NOT deep enough and my ears are not some amazing sticking out ears. I have two cheapos Doqaus and Mpow that are just too small. My Sonys WH-1000M3 touch my ears from the speaker cover, my Xiberia do the same. Then pads are large enough but both...make that all 5 are shallow enough. So Mister nose in the Air Audiophile how exactly do I "tune my headphones". My sound canceling Sonys definitely cancel sound but I do not hear a real difference between the 5. My LG sound bar running ATMOS is much nicer because my ears a physically unmolested. 8-D
Sure Karen😂😂
@@zdragonzmaster2215 They definitely do change sound quality, its not enough to be like "Oh I just ruined my entire headphone experience" but it definitely is a change. I have a pair of Skullcandy Crusher Evo's and when I changed their earpads for a cosmetic upgrade I definitely could feel and hear a difference in the bass. (Which mind you was the whole reason I got the headphones) However, in my opinion, it was not a significant enough change that I wanted to switch back to the original headphones. So instead of dismissing someone who is telling you that changing something will change other things you may not have thought about, ask questions, and dont have a snooty attitude. This guy wasnt even rude with the comment he was stating. The time that it took you to type out that paragraph, you could have cut in half and searched up how earpads can change sound quality...
@@zdragonzmaster2215 But, since youve already proven you are here just to have attitude, here is what a simple google search is telling me about the change in sound quality based on the parameters of ear pads. Distance from driver The distance between your ear and the driver can change when you replace your earpads. This can alter how certain frequencies interact, which can affect the sound. Material The material of your earpads can affect the sound. For example, velour or fabric materials can reduce bass, while protein leather and leather pads can increase it. Shape The shape of your earpads can affect the sound. Flat earpads create more surface area around your ear, which can seal your ear better. Rounded earpads may not seal as well, but they may be more comfortable. Noise isolation The shape and design of your earpads can determine how much sound from outside leaks in. Well-designed earpads can provide noise isolation so that you only hear the music you want to hear. Seal The seal of your earpads can affect the sound. Pads that seal well around your ear can trap air or sound inside, which can result in a higher base and resonance. You can also consider other factors that can affect the sound quality of your headphones, such as: Driver diameter The size of the diaphragm, which is indicated by the driver diameter, can affect the sound quality. Dirt and dust Dirt, dust, and debris can accumulate on your headphones over time, which can lead to muffled or quieter sound. You can clean your headphones with a soft cloth and a mild cleaning solution.
@@zdragonzmaster2215 still different earpad differnt sound. If its not different a lot studio monitor headphone will surely not come with Valour earpads. Leather for more bass And if you try to put the completely worn out one on it's sound is very Obviously different
I'm glad I wasn't the only one to consider gel pads from hearing protection pads for my headphone, although yours seem to be both easier and harder to work with than mine (it has lips, sort of, whilst mine don't have any). I don't understand why there aren't any kind of "universal gel pads" yet.
The gel pads you purchased are somewhat similar to the kind you can find for David Clark's aviation ear pads. And they also sell inner foam layers if you wanted to add it. I am no audiophile, but I do believe having the foam is still better than having nothing at all. Otherwise, the parts inside are directly exposed to environment hazard.
brilliant
thanks to the low wage the factory labors., they struggle for thousnd of this everyday
What happened to this channel and to you Jeff? I think the foam also would help to protect the speaker.
Thank you for your concern/interest 😉 in the last 2 years I've just been very busy with my businesses, clients, and open source projects I contribute to... I'm not really an improviser, so every video tends to take a lot of work (at least those that would be better than this one), so I haven't been able to dedicate time to making new/better ones (I hope to get back to this when I can). Also, it's sometimes tricky to have a solid idea of a topic to present that I think the public would find interesting and hasn't been covered by everybody else already ;) what would you like to hear about?
Name and artist of the first song, please?
ah silicon ear sauna, what is that sony headphone model?
It is a pair of MDR-7506 🧐
You might have had less trouble if you had heated the pads, no ?
Possibly! Seems like a smart idea, I hadn't thought of that.
The foam in the center would help in dampening the sound evening it out and clearing some noise so it wont sound too raw. It has the same function as placing foam on a microphone to remove wind/room noise when you speak into it. It makes a huge difference but not something a non-audiophile would notice.
The quality of the earpad can affect the sounds.
Fantastic job answering a specific question. Thank you.
It’s ok if somebody dosent agree and dislike this comment but a reminder fire alarms can save lives! incase of a real fire smoke detectors make a big change to fire safety saving loved ones or other people incase of a real fire
Thank you for this guidance. On a tangent: Is there actually a range of these sorts of headphones with durable ear cushions that won't flake that you could recommend? My JBL Tune 750BTNC "pleather" cushions and headband flaked out on me - literally and metaphorically after one year of use.
Use a bicycle tyre removal tool. That's what I use and works every time. Make sure to buy a plastic one, so you don't scratch the headphones. Leaving the inner covers isn't a good idea, as it protects your hearing somewhat, acting as a dampener.
That's a genius idea! I'm making a note of it in my memos :)
what's the name of the music in the background?
You didn't even bother to listen to your headphone before ending the video. Now we won't be able to know the changes it will make to our own headphones. We can ignore your mistakes with ear pad cutting. I can even stomach the fact that you didn't even put them on to check for comfort and feel. But NOT giving your viewers any feedback regarding sound? That's downright horrible, sir.
Have you ever tried dekoni suede ear pads for being cooler and less sweat prone?
jumped on the program didn't think much of it. I think you need to start to get on GTK4 as well. I liked how your trailer put python 2 to bed but lets start actually making the program more fluid. your natural language stuff is easily coded, maybe the gnome project need to get their hands on some kind of natural language model so that apps can just intuitive know what they are asking for or doing... lastly do look into server-side/infrastructure. if the end user has access to their own servers or a company they can place the correct software there. lastly your allow for heirachies why not allow users to choose to have their "notes" viewable in there file systems and they select a note in there file system in opens the GTG viewer... you are using markdown right?
Are you working on an open-source project?
Yes, it has existed for quite some time, check out "Getting Things GNOME". I also contribute to other Linux & GNOME-related software in various ways.
