Straub-Huillet are the whole of film; already with Nicht Versöhnt. It's unbelievable.
Magnificent: the best possible introduction to the work of the greatest living filmmaker;.
On what order would you recommend watching his films?
@@dongiancana9375 I'd like to know as well
@@dongiancana9375 Introduction to Arnold Schoenberg's..., Antigone, Nicht Versöhnt, Moses und Aaron, Sicilia!, for a start. "Introduction to Arnold Schoenberg's..." is probably the best introduction as it is very digestible but introduces you to the way that Straub-Huillet worked in their approach to "raw material" of source texts, images, sounds, language, time, performance, etc. as "blocks" which they establish relations with. As far as introductions to Straub-Huillet, Robert Bresson as one precursor and Pedro Costa as one "descendant" are also immensely valuable on their own and as a bridge to the more severe filmmaking of S-H. Which also reminds me "Where Does Your Hidden Smile Lie", a documentary by Pedro Costa on Straub-Huillet editing a version of Sicilia!, is also a great film and great introduction to them.
@@jpmezart Thank you, your comment was very helpful, I'm already familiar with the works of Bresson and Costa, I know S.H can be even more challenging, I only watched their film about Bach, which was a unique approach to capture the genius of his music in the cinematic medium. Thanks again!
@@dongiancana9375 Straub actually presented the Bach film as a project for Bresson to do, to which Bresson responded that he (Straub) was the only person who could do his own film, which is what got him started!
