      Linework was done in SketchUp. Sorry if that seemed a bit misleading. This method just takes a 2d export from SketchUp using the black pen style (so it looks hand drawn) and finished out in concepts app. Not sure how far you made it in the video but I believe that is mentioned. So I am using the iPad Pro 12.9 (4th Gen) with 128gb storage. Runs great. Super smooth and never has an issue. I'm generally pretty good about layer management so I'm not the type to bog a drawing down with 40+ random layers. All that being said, a friend of mine is using the newer ipad 10th gen (not pro) and although it's slightly smaller and is only 64 gb, it's runs great. And there is a considerable price gap there. As for workflow...it's everchanging. Mainly because my clients are always changing their approach. I'm always up for talking shop. You can reach out through the contact info on my website. I do provide consultation as a service, but as long as it's just general conversation and not getting it's step by step/demonstration, we can chalk it up as a friendly industry chat.

      So, as with any app in this industry, it's about preference and your individual workflow. What type of drawings are you doing, what are you hoping to export, and what form do your deliverables usually take? These are the main questions I ask when consulting 1 on 1 for moving to tablet drafting/drawing. Unfortunately, as you probably know, availability to quality apps for android aren't as robust as iOS. With that being said, the few that I've used on my SurfacePro on the app side would be Concepts App, Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, and Clip Studio. I use concepts app more, because I like the vector workflow vs the raster workflow of sketchbook pro or clip studio. However, it's not without it's limitations. In Sketchbook and Clip you can operate those almost like Photoshop. Where as with concepts app you have to be creative with layering to get some of the same results. As for subscriptions... With concepts app, the subscription gives you access to all brushes and is well worth it. I can't remember entirely but i believe its the same with Sketchbook. Clip studio I'm unsure of. But with any of these, to get the most out of it, paying is going to be the way to go. These are pretty minimal prices compared to other software we have to pay for monthly so it's well worth is. Hope this helps!

    HI Jerry. My uphill grind on going digital currently is that less-featured version of Concepts that they offer for Android/Windows compared to the full features provided to iOS. I'm not really a Mac person, or are our offices. It's a bit frustrating that some sort of gatekeeping is happening here. So I am at a crossroads: (1) switch to iOS; (2) look for another sketch app like Sketchable; (3) just stick it out with Photoshop and its complexity. If you have a sway on the Concepts developing team, please urge them to aid the demographic working on Windows/Android.

    • @landshaperstudio
      @landshaperstudio 5 месяцев назад

      Sorry for the delayed reply here. Not sure if you saw or not, but it appears your prayers have been answered! ha As for apple products in our field...I 100% agree. The only apple products I work with are my iPhone and iPad. Everything else (3d, Cad, Graphic Design) is all done on pc. Most of the rendering programs aren't even available on Mac and to build a mac strong enough to run them would take the cost of a whole office worth of pc's. Anyway.. I've worked with several companies that have all had a unique work flow, but we always came back to Concepts simply because the vector based workflow allowed for so much flexibility. Especially in design-centric offices that were heavy on collaboration. Pixel painters like procreate and photoshop definitely have the upper hand on the high-end watercolor style and photo-bashing, but outside of those specific uses, I stick with Concepts App.

    • @landshaperstudio

      Yes to all the above actually! It varies as we are an outsourcing option for our clients so we use whatever they give us. Sometimes that’s on-site measurents we then draw out, sometimes it’s a drone or Polycam scan, or a traditional survey. Occasionally we have to just use google earth but the perspective skew makes it pretty unreliable.

      Hi Nymode! For me it’s less about what you’re drawing and more about your style and working deadlines. The main difference between these two apps is Morpholio is a pixel painter and Concepts is vector based. Since we work for other designers we are constantly up for critiques and tight deadlines, so vector based selections and changes are much quicker and easier and although we lose some of the abilities you get with pixel based editing, it’s much faster for us. At the end of the day, both are really good apps that you can utilize for pretty much any application you put the time into.

    • @landshaperstudio
      @landshaperstudio Год назад

      Yes. Couple things to keep in mind though: When you draw in concepts app, you are drawing from point to point with a line of information in between to dictate what that stroke looks like. That's why we can change a pen stroke to a marker stroke in concepts. It's all just a series a points with info between each point telling the program what tool we use and what that should look like. However, when you export the .dwg to a program like Autocad, autocad is only reading the lines. So if you used a watercolor brush for instance, CAD doesn't detect that information. Instead, it only sees a line between two points. In autocad, you can take that line and change the line type and style, but the perameters you set within concepts app won't carry over. Make sense?

We only work for other designers and its usually on a tight deadline so the ability to easily isolate, select and switch scales has been huge for our workflow. Thanks for the love!

    This is wonderful! I use concepts app myself all the time, but I am nowhere near as good as you. Your work style is amazing.

      Thanks! We all have different styles and I'm sure you're is unique and great on its own! Would love to see it. I know for myself, it took me years to build up my confidence on pen and paper. What I do in the app is just transfer that same method over.

      Just give yourself some grace when starting out and know that it's ok to suck for a bit. I remember going from traditional media to digital felt like I was going back to where my trees looked like broccoli. :) But give it time and the results will come. There are a few more vids on our channel to help you along. Hope you find them helpful and there is more on the way!

    Awesome work! This a dying art from within landscape architecture a whole. If more students and architects resorted to hand drawn conceptual work like this we would be moving toward a more creative and expressive future. Having been in the profession for 30 years there's a stronger connection to creativity when you co ordinate thought with hand-eye co ordination of hand sketching rather than the cut copy paste and concept development in a CAD platform. I've seen creativity levels drop significantly over the years as hand sketching fades into the background.

      Luckily almost all of my professors pursued some sort of traditional art on the side and so were big on traditional methods and being able to express our ideas quickly and effectively. LA, from what I see, has grown into something much more broad than it was in the past. For better or worst, is everyone's personal opinion, but the industry has grown to wear multiple hats. And many of those hats aren't very "design" oriented in the way of art but more purely function. As LA's grab more at civil engineering type projects and planning, I see alot more info-based / use-model design happening in the commercial spaces and the only ones that seem to be truly artful are the big competition based firms. I know thats painting with a broad and probably unfair brush, but that's just what I've seen. Seems less about hey, how can we collaborate with other professions and make what they need into an artful marriage of form and function...and more about: Grading? Planning? Survey? Structural? Yeh we can do that too. Lol. I think what we are seeing more is a shift in the profession as a whole and less about the graphics. Heck, the graphics alone now are pretty much it's own profession. Atleast that's what my company does :)

    Beautiful drawing! Is this drawing enough info for the contractor or do they still need a Cad file as well?

      Thanks! And it depends. Some design/build firms that we’ve drawn for just need a simple sketch since they have a good idea of what they want to do whereas some need detailed drafting. However, usually it’s not the contractors that dictate the final deliverables. It’s the city (permitting) and the homeowner. This was a concept sketch (1of2) that was presented to this client. Then 3d, and lastly a submital set for project permitting.

      Thanks! So previous to this we presented two black and white concepts. This was the revised so a decent amount of linework was already there. But time between all three concepts (2 original, 1 revised) was about 5-6 hours. With about 4 of that being actual drawing time.

    • @landshaperstudio
      @landshaperstudio 2 года назад

      I love it. It's fairly easy to learn, simple scaling, and I really like the fact that it is vector based. No loss of clarity at any scale.

    Great illustrative design and precision with the snap feature. You still kept it loose and expressive with your style! From your experience with the Concepts app and Morpholio app, which do you over all prefer and why?

    • @landshaperstudio
      @landshaperstudio 2 года назад

      For me I personally gravitate toward concepts app. Mainly due to clarity and the general workflow of vector vs pixel based. Morpholio feels more traditional, and has some really cool features though! But I just hate having to create so many layers when working in and out on a larger piece since morpholio uses the same amount of pixels for each layer no matter the size.

      Thanks! Vector based opens a ton of options. Not to discredit the use of Morpholio or Procreate. But the infinite canvas and no pixelation are great to be able to change size and scale on a whim. Especially in our line of work. Thank you for watching! Glad you are finding it useful!
