YT Izzo Uncaged 7 full review from Sedona
Просмотров 4,4 тыс.2 года назад
Took a day in Sedona to review the pros and cons of the YT Izzo Uncaged 7. Such a fun bike!
Jellystone, Hong Kong Phooey, and Jackass, fast and fun!

The snow has melted and Jellystone just opened back up! So much joyous (and nervous) laughter!
Can the Izzo handle big jumps and drops??
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.4 года назад
I tried out the Izzo on some of the bigger jumps and drops at our local bike park (i.e., Advanced Jump Line at Sierra Vista Bike Park). While I'm a bit out of my element on jumps of this size, the Izzo did great for a bike in this class!

I want to buy the Izzo core 2 and I'm in doubt with the Canyon Spectral 125 CF 7 .... they tell me you can't compare the 2. The izzo is more XC and not trail like on the website of YT ... this video proves them wrong and YT correct. Thank you for the video :)
I had a 2020 comp and sold it. will now be back on the izzo with this fork and shock(not uncagged color). Have a hardtail and bigger travel now, so this should be awesome. I want to do some xc, endurance and ill likely just use this on the two gravel races i do a year.
I've liked the switch to this fork and shock. Hope you do too!
Which Suntour lockout did you use? I can't stand the TwistLoc on mine. Was looking at the OneLoc, but it looks like that Suntour takes up less real estate with that lever orientation.
It was called the Suntour Twin Lever Remote Lockout
Just commented on a 2 yr old video of yours wondering if you still had the bike and I guess the answer is kinda lol. I'm guessing you like the Izzo enough to get a newer one.
Yep. I've really liked both of them. :)
Thanks for the videos.. I am interested in this bike. I thought I heard somewhere that you got an XL frame size. I am thinking between the L and XL. The XL seems to have more similar measurements to my 21 Stumpjumper, but I'm a little gun-shy when I can't test one. I forgot how tall you are. Can you let me know? Also, any other input you might think?
I'm 6'1" and used to own a XL, and currently own a L. I rode an XL Izzo pro race for a year, and liked it OK, but I like the large better, as on the XL I would sometimes get lower back pain and hand numbness on really long rides from the reach. If my upper body was just a little bit longer, an XL would have been OK. I find the large a little more playful, and the large has never felt small to me. The only thing I don't like about the large, is that it comes with a shorter dropper post, and I miss having a longer dropper that I can use to completely get the seat out of my way.
@Josh Garn thanks for the input. I'm about the same height. I have a 21 Stumpjumper in S4 size that i feel great on. The xl izzo seems to have the closet measurements to that, but it's a hard call. I like the stability, but it might be a little long with the stem out of the box. I know I can change the stem, but it's still scary to put the money in without riding one even a bit.
Just ordered this. Then watched some reviews. This is exactly the review I wanted to see. Thanks.
Stoked for you! Prices have probably come down by the time you are buying this, but the bike was still totally worth it to me!
They discounted it to 5799!!!! Unbelievable build for that price. I’ve been a Yeti rider for some time, but this 5799$ build is better than the 12,600$ SB120 build. 🤯
What are your favorite tires for this bike
Right now I have a recon on the front and a recon race in the back. I like to keep it light and fast rolling, but I do miss having more grip sometimes.
Damn you a stud riding 60miles up in Tahoe. I can barely ride 15 miles at sea level.
Just got delivery of the core 4 izzo. Haven't ridden it yet, still setting it up. At my age 60, I feel this should be a really good bike fit for me. I no longer desire to bomb through really techy stuff and risk injury and wanted something that would allow me to ride longer and climb as well as the younger riders I go with. Mine is 130 travel so it should be enough bike for what I want to ride. Great video!
Really glad to hear you're so happy with your bike. And insane what the bike can do even though its essentially a cross countrified trial bike, and you still ride some trails where this bike probably has no business being at. Really shows how well YT did with this bike (and shows that you are a good rider). I ordered the uncaged spec myself a few days ago. Should hopefully receive it the coming week.
"A cross countrified trail bike" is a good description. Congrats on the upcoming new bike day!
I have the core 3; I find the only thing that seems to be harsh or overwhelming to the bike is repeated root hits or impacts taken square on; this seems to be a product of the fork more than anything however
Yeah I feel the same way on roots or rocks. I used to have a pro race (130 mm travel with 34 mm stanchions) and feel like the sid fork on the uncaged 7 (120 mm travel with 35 mm stanchions) handles these hits a little better, as I think the bigger 35 mm stanchions are less flexy. That's just the cost of having a good climbing fork/shock I guess.
Great reviews. I've gone to 780 bar and 35mm stem on mine and that really ups the techy capabilities.
That would probably feel nice. I have 800 mm bars on my enduro bike, and like it (except when riding in tight trees). Seems like a good solution, without a lot of downside.
I've been in the market for a 120mm "downcountry" bike myself. Tried an Orbea Oiz TR and while is was sexy and fast, the geo was still a tad to traditional for what I'm looking for. Something like the UC7 honestly would probably be exactly what I'm looking for at 120mm, 25lbs, and geo that is not as out there as the Spur but still "trail-bikey". Couldn't swing the $$$ for the UC7 so ended up *settling* for the Core 4 - Still a SICK bike with great spec but the efficiency from dropping 3 lbs and 120mm would have been awesome.
This is a late response, but I used to have an 130/130 Izzo (pro race), and it did pretty well on drops. Not as good as a true enduro bike, but still did well.
I'm so torn between the Izzo and the Jeffsy! I'm deciding on which to get as my first fs. I'm coming from a 130mm 27.5 hardtail. Ahhh! 160mm 27.5 Jeffsy vs 130mm 29er izzo....idk how well the Jeffsy does on climbs
I prefer my Izzo (over my enduro bike) for almost every ride, except really rocky tech stuff. I'm sure you'd be happy either way coming from a hard tail!!
We’ve got some beautiful trails round here, Surrey Hills England, but Sedona is another level. If I ever get the opportunity to go there again I will definitely be taking my new DC bike! Having ridden both the L & XL are you set that the L is the right bike for you?
Yep, the large is for me!
I’m set on a 120mm “down country” bike. But struggling to decide between the beefed up XC bikes like the Epic Evo or Blur TR, the streamlined trail bikes like the Izzo UC7 and the dedicated down country bike the Transition Spur. It’s a tricky category at the moment. It has to be a comfortable, efficient, inspiring all day mile muncher that is also playful and fun to ride. Do you think the Izzo UC7 fits that bill? Have you had any experience of any of the others? It’s impossible to get a test ride on any of them at the moment!
I've never ridden the others, but am familiar with some of their specs. Love my bike though! I've never heard anyone complain about a transition spur. My guess is you'd like most any of those bikes.
@@speedoffun Thanks so much for all your help. YT UC7 it is. I just love the look of that bike!!!
Having risen it for a month now is there anything you’d change? Shorter stem? Front tyre with more grip?
I actually have changed the gripshift lockout to a thumb lockout. I generally like the tires for what I use the bike for. Haven't changed anything else yet, but I may add more grippy tires if I ever race it in a pedaly enduro race, or once the summer trails get really loose.
Thanks for the excellent review. Everyone raves about the agility of this bike, but the flip side being that it can get a bit sketchy when riding flat out. Is that your experience?
I think it's pretty good when riding "flat out" as long as it isn't in really rocky stuff. There are things about the bike that I think are generally great (e.g., fast rolling tires, responsive travel, low amount of travel), but those things also make it less stable than an enduro bike. If I'm going +25 mph on a straightaway I feel comfortable, but it naturally starts to feel more sketchy if there's technical stuff or lose corners.
Hey brother would you consider a 130 or 140 fork on this bike if it was your only bike?
Yes, if was my only bike. However , it'd have to be the right 130/140 fork. I actually prefer the stability and feel of the rockshox sid 120 on this bike over the fox 130 on my old izzo.
@@JoshGarn I was thinking Pike 140. Sorry for the barrage of questions wanting to pull the trigger on this one and can’t find much on the model.
If you wanted to remove the cable lockouts, is that possible?
You could easily just unhook the cables, but your shock and fork would be stuck in the open position.
@@speedoffun just curious if you could put traditional lock out levers on them. But doesn’t seem that’s possible
@@jeremyrobinette2563 it's easy to replace. I replaced mine with a suntour twin lock for like 40 bucks. I think I'd prefer the original, but mine came broken and SRAM has been really slow replacing it so I finally just had to buy something different.
@@JoshGarn I’d love to pick this bike up and sell my stump jumper and epic Evo and just have one bike that falls in between. That lockout and all the cables and grips are the only thing I don’t like. Thanks for your input!
Keep up the good work man, watching you all the way from Mexico 🇲🇽
Thanks!

what's your size and size of bike? how long did it take for delivery? any issues out the box during assembly?
I'm 6'1" tall and got a large. I used to have an XL Izzo pro race but I prefer this large izzo uncaged 7 for lots of reasons, including fit. Bikes are currently in stock in the US so I'd bet it would only take a week. When I ordered they weren't in stock, so it took a couple months. The lockout grip didn't work out of the box, but they will warranty it. I had a lockout on my previous pro race and it worked perfectly, so I'm not too worried about getting this fixed. I love the bike so far, and will love it more once the lockout is fixed.
@@JoshGarn my only worry about getting YT is hearing warranty issues in the pink bike sub forums. it sounds like you have had luck with the customer service. I am a bit in the mix size of 5'5'' and not sure if I should get a medium.
@@skt4271able I've heard customer service in other countries is bad. I think it's pretty good in the US, although maybe not as good as a local bike shop. Good luck finding something you'll like!
How much does the bike weigh?
A small is 25.1 lbs. So pretty light, but not as light as a dedicated XC bike. Not sure what my large weighs.
Thanks for the video. I have one on order. I also currently have the pro race. Where are the trails your riding in this video?
This is in Sierra Vista Bike park in Reno, NV. It looks like you are in AZ. Just rode in AZ in Sedona last week, and it was rad!
@@speedoffun yeah, I live in Sedona, it’s awesome Been here about a year. Cheers!
If that doesn't sell you on the Izzo nothing will. Most riders will never push it that hard. This guy's got skill.
haha, thanks! I actually got the bike so I can climb better, and for long days in the saddle, but it is a really capable bike!
@@speedoffun you make me feel over biked on my Hightower. Great video 👍🏻
Woo 😂. Thanks for the review man. Sweet bike. I've a Blaze and love it
Nice run brother !!
What’s the best way to access the top ? I’m assuming up jackass road and up jelly stone connector?
There's a fire road that you can ride to the beginning of jellystone. The trailhead is a bit hidden so I'd suggest maybe following someone else's gps route. However, you should know that everything above jackass has recently closed this year, because the private land owner is worried about fire risk. I think it will open back up to us in the future, but you might get ticketed if you go right now.
@@JoshGarn thanks for the info. Anything else In the area you can recommend that is as fun as this?
I always like hearing the joy in people when riding. Biking seems to bring the kid out in all of us.
It's hard not to laugh, whoop and hollar when jumping a mountain bike! It really does bring the kid out.
Nice shredding man!
Good voice, competent riding, and a nice groove that doesn't overwhelm the trail sounds. We need more like these.
Thanks! Hopefully I can make more videos soon, but for now I'm in quarantine...
Man I hate being that guy constantly looking over my shoulder cause I know I’m slow AF
Haha. Looks from your profile pic like you aren't built like an XC guy, but if these XC guys show up in the weight room I'm pretty sure they'd be self conscious. ;)
@@speedoffun haha! Keep up with the vids I’m loving how you push this bike! It’s such an intriguing bike
Welcome California
Thanks! One of my favorite places to ride! As a Reno resident it's only 35 minutes away.
Nice trails! Love my Izzo Pro race!
How does this bike handle rocky trails? Not ledge but a lot of chop? It’s one of the only bikes I was able to find in stock. I’m 6’1” as well with a 34” inseam and they have XL in stock so I figured your input would be spot on. Thanks!
Does ok...Rides about as expected for having 130 mm travel. I prefer my sb150 for rocky downhill stuff or rock gardens, even though I have ridden the Izzo on some really rocky stuff and it did well enough (just a little slower and have to pick my lines more carefully rather than just plowing through).
Would you recommend this bike for my first full suspension bike
Yes! This would probably be a great first full suspension bike. If you want more travel you could also look into YTs Jeffsy.
Awesome video. Loving my Izzo. Are you running the stock tires? I couldn't hear your last comment, are you planning to use the Izzo at the Enduro race in Ashland?
In this video I had the dissector on the front (it is just a tiny bit more grippy than the stock forecaster but still pretty lightweight), but I still have the forecaster on the back. I recorded this before the race, and actually brought both bikes to the Ashland race. I did the practice day on the Izzo, and I ended up changing my mind at the last minute and racing on the SB150 just because the knobby tires on my sb150 felt a little more comfortable and the trails were steep and gnarly enough that it felt slightly more comfortable to have more travel.
How are you liking the izzo? I am waiting for mine to ship. I live up by lake shasta and when i rode hole in the ground i decided for what i ride i probably dknt need as big of a bike.
Loving it! It's a great bike for everything, except for really big jumps/drops or really rocky downhill stuff. Great price for what you get and I really have no complaints.
Great video. How does the Izzo handle chunk? Thinking of getting one for lighter days on the trails but I tend to like the nastier lines lol....straight line
I'd rather be on my enduro bike for stuff like that... Bike does lots of things well, but I'm not sure that's one of them.
great vid. what type of chest strap do you have, looks really smooth relative to what i find i can create on mine. awesome bike, just got my izzo last month & loving it.
It's just a Sametop chestmount harness from Amazon with a GoPro hero 7 with image stabilization turned on.
@@speedoffun Dang tbh I thought you had a gimbal attached to your GoPro bc of how smooth it looks.
Damn that's a beautiful trail, close to ordering Pro Race but will only be available in December, but looks like it might be worth the wait.
Such a long wait! I had to wait a couple months and even cancelled my order once because of the delay, and then reordered again. Glad I stuck with it in the end!
Cool vid. Can I ask what size you went with and your height? Inseam too if you know it. I’m on the edge of L vs XL and trying to determine what size to go with.
I'm 6'1" and went with an XL (and am glad I did). My inseam is somewhere between 33.5" and 34". The seatpost is almost slammed all the way down in the frame, so I'd probably be pushed to a L if my legs were any shorter.
The Speed of Fun ...Perfect, thanks. I’m 6’2” with a 35ish inseam so looks like XL it is. Thanks so much
I’m 5’11 with a 34 inch inseam and I’m riding a large IZZO Launch which is spot on perfect for me but if I was an inch taller would’ve gone with the XL.. Don’t baby these things too much, mine has seen bike park days and some tough Enduro type trails and it just eats them up! A tire upgrade was quickly needed though
Pat Hayes Yeah after I posted this I started to shy away from the izzo because I thought maybe it was a little bit more of a delicate bike not suitable for 220 pound rider. So your saying its tough enough for bigger riders? I dont really ride enduro type terrain or do jumps but i’m a bigger fella.
Man I wish I could demo this bike. I’m 6 even and struggling if I should go large or xl myself. Large ibis ripley was perfect for me but those are sold out.
Great video. I am thinking about ordering an IZZO, have you bottom out yet? If so, was it frequently? I got rid of my 160mm front and rear 27.5 bike because I never used all of its travel, maybe IZZO is the way to go.
Thanks. I've never bottomed out, in part because the suspension feels pretty progressive. I keep taking air out to find it's sweet spot, and I'm liking how it feels now (using most of the travel but not bottoming out). If I took it to a big bike park I'm sure I'd bottom out with where the shock is now, but this bike just isn't meant for really big stuff.
Looking forward to more videos on the Izzo!
Thanks! I did a review of the Izzo on a different page a few weeks back, if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/8K8SiyHbYlQ/видео.html
Nice! 👌🔥🔥
