Such a simple, yet underrated point. Essentially, “Try harder in the hard part.” That means you finish more reps you would’ve given up on, and even when you do try that bit harder but reach failure, then you’re still doing everything right.

Hey David loved the video and I think you're absolutely right. I'm 27 and been lifting for 5 years, do you think this kind of intention may apply to analytic exercises? It feels like you have to choose to fill your mind either with mind-muscle connection or this intention/explosiveness which takes away that isolation. Thanks!

I am no expert but personally, I think that this level of training engagement should be done with weights that are at/slightly below (~ -10 kg) your maximum weight that you can lift 3-4 times in a single set (assuming that you can perform ~3 of those). Otherwise, as you've mentioned, form degrades (e.g you start to strain your back, knees, apply shoulders/biceps/back muscles that should not be used in particular exercise). That's what worked for me pretty consistently.

Compound/explosive lifts = High intent/trying to move Single Joint/Body Building type work = mind muscle There is some overlap there...it depends on the goals of the movement/training.

Nope. If you're slow, you're failing and need to try harder. The problem is being scared of failure. Failure is a sign to try something different, not move the goal posts. Fast progress is amazing; but don't use others' progress to judge yourself.
