After a great session at Brown's earlier in the month, I convinced Maria to head out with me based on the calm conditions forecast from the Burea of Meteorology (B.O.M.). Hahaha ... 0.6m waves more like 2m, 10kts winds more like 20kts ... many waves over the bow. Glad we were in the Cruise !

The dollies were very quiet at Sydney North FADS on 12 May 2023 ... so this was probably "The Very Last Dollie at FAD20A for 2023" PS - my pants are wet not because of an accident or excitement - but because 15min before I was in the water cutting braid line off the prop !!!

great fun!
nice and flat! thanks for the video mate!
nice boat mate, When are we going out?
Great catch, very nice Blue Eye
Yes it was. Thanks for watching. Cheers Z
Looks like a great day out there Zoran. Well done to Maria on the blue eye 😀. What's with the cuda? Next trips bait 🤔
Thanks mate … long time no speak. No cuda on this trip. Only gemfish and the blue eye. Or were you referring to the old rig - barrycuda?
@@zk8241 Yes been a while, hope all is well with you & the family. No just me getting my species & video's mixed up 🙄. But I have heard the cuda do make great bait? Enjoy the fish, especially that blue eye, such a great eating fish 🙂
Great job zoran!
Thanks Antony. It was M that did the good work!
Awesome video Zoran ! Definitely have to have a lekkie reel out there !
Thanks Ian .... if you look at some of my other vids you'll see I fished Browns for many years with an Alvey King, great upper body workout ! ... In my youth I've even done it with my Penn overheads ... but only managed 6 drops ... 700 lifts of a 2.5kg sinker to change the bait was just too much 😅 .
@@zk8241 🤣🤣💪💪💪
Hairtail on Flint - well I never heard of that !
Actually on plastic!! 😂… my first ever hairtail were caught at FnS … 6 on livies at top of incoming tide 1988 … they were still there last week 😂
@@zk8241 Would have thought they wouldn’t like the current , I have caught them in Jerusalem bay but my mate got one in the mouth of Cowan in January.
Top of tide … current slows. Yes caught many in Jerusalem and Cowan. But in January I caught one 3km offshore drifting for flatties ! They’ve been prolific this year.
@@zk8241 Definitely has something to do with the floods , I have never seen so many Mulloway in the Hawkesbury and they’re still there mid winter .
Great video Zoran ! When a couple of Raiders get together for a fish nothing that swims is safe ! Awesome boat ! I fantasise about owning a boat like yours but have no room to keep it .
Thanks Ian. We’ve been boating for decades so included space and access for storing a large lump of boat as key requirements when looking for a home. Helps when the wife is a boatie! Cheers
What is the biggest fish you've landed on this without issues? Looking to use it for golden tilefish
Hi C.B. I personally don't fish with it... my wife does as she has arthritis in her hands - this reel helps keep her fishing 👍. She has landed a 4.5ft Mako with it. The reel holds 440m of 40lb braid and has 10kg drag.
Great looking rig Zoran, hope you , Maria & the family are well :)
Thanks Adrian… it had to be a special rig to replace barrycuda. This one ticks all the boxes. Hope you’re well mate. Cheers Z
Never pump rod using electric just reel ask any charter captain
Thanks TG. Interesting. What is the issue with pumping? I can understand there is no need to pump my bigger Tanacom Bulls which have 27kg of drag (they are more like a winch), but the little Banax is constructed very much like a small overhead reel. Would you grind in a fish with a small overhead or pump it up?? Anyway, the Banax has held up well with how my wife uses it - pumped up a 4.5ft mako recently no issues. Cheers Z
@@zk8241 because u loose more fish by pumping by pulling the hook out as I said ask a charter boat that specializes in deep drop fastest way to loose the fish
Here we’re fishing 60m … not deep dropping. My wife has arthritis in hands but loves fishing. The small electric removes the need to wind but everything else remains the same. The reel was not designed to skull drag - you use it just like other small overheads. When we deep drop around 500m with the tanacoms then agree 100% - no pumping.
Because, when people pump, they tend to drop the rod tip before they wind, leaving slack line. Most electric reels will do a far better job of keeping the line tight than any angler when used as intended
I think you have answered your own question - you are supposed to wind as you drop the rod tip (taking up the slack line) then you pump up ... that's exactly what the electric is doing !!! ... it is switched on - winding line - the moment you lower the rod tip - line is wound on the spool - no slack line.
Hey mate, how does the hull ride? and how fast does it go with the 150 pushing it along?
I recorded this video for a mate who wanted to know how loud the new 4 stroke was. If you watch to the end you'll see 70km/h at 5800rpm from memory. The ride and offshore handling are exceptional - I often fished the shelf and took the family on whale watching trips from Sydney to Avoca. The150 delivered a 4second hole shot and the top speed that I recorded was 74km/h at around 5900rpm. If you want insight into ride I suggest you check out my other videos. Also refer to the following post for all the stats on performance and fuel consumption : www.fishraider.com.au/topic/91455-repower-of-haines-635l-with-mercury-150hp-proxs-4stroke/
Probably cheaper than fill up a huge tank with city water. I like the idea and I will try it.
Yep and you get a cleaner flush. Cheers
Goes good
Thanks... It was a great rig... now with a new owner up in Mackay !! Cheers
I've recently come across this video for my Engineering project and was wondering how you were able to build the DIY Muffler? Like what is the structure inside and how does it work to reduce the noise from the exhaust?
Outboard motors exhaust through the propeller. When used in the water, the propeller is submerged and the surrounding water acts as the sound baffle. I have used that principle. The Muffler is just sewer pipe, pushed into the propeller exhaust and held in place by bungee straps. Look at the video starting 0:26. You will see that the water hose is connected to both the earmuffs (providing cooling water to the motor), and also to the Muffler. The water fills the Muffler - and that column of water acts as the sound baffle as the exhaust gasses bubble through the water - just like what happens when the motor is in the water. I have screwed a plastic cap ontop of the sewer pipe, to prevent the exhaust gasses expelling all the water when the motor kicks over at start up. After starting, the motor settles to a much lower, and more consistent idle RPM which is not strong enough to expel the water in the pipe.
@@zk8241 Thank you so much for replying, this helps a lot! Very much appreciated :)
Nice work ZK & fellow raiders
Thanks Adrian. Was a while ago now. Cheers
A complete waste of time! Why upload this?
Coz the world doesn't revolve around you ! BTW, I notice you have ZERO video contributions on your channel, so I'll just take your reply here as having the same ZERO cred. Get a life !
What a load of crap

Well I know that you have no original content, have made no effort, hence have no credibility to make judgmental comments … back to your cave troll … until you learn some respect
🤣
Yes we can all laugh now !
Hi great video, do you have trouble washing mud and salt water off the chain and warp?
Hi. Thanks. No real issue, I use a hose garden sprayer (shower head type) to wash down the boat and trailer after each trip. During that process I open the anchor hatch and run water over the chain, rope and winch - this runs out through the anchor well drain. Having said that, most of my anchoring is when fishing in 50-60m offshore (>100m of rope out) so very little mud. When I anchor in estuaries (mud) they are much shallower and I typically only have 20-30m of rope out - so its the top few layers of rope on the drum which are easy to rinse with hose. If I'm not happy with result, I just pull off that rope, wash and rewind. The Stressfree winch is waterproof and the manufacturer recommends a fresh water rinse after use and an occasional spray on the exposed faces with WD40. Cheers
Nice Board!
Thanks !
Well done gentleman.
Thanks Fab ! ... missed the marlin but deep drop saved the day.
Silver Star is fantastic.. great terrain and usually good snow conditions.. they even have a great steakhouse (silver star grill)
Can't disagree at all ... wish they had more plant based options though 😋 !!
Nice effort lads
Very helpful, I have the same boat and want to install an electric whinch. This is going to make like a little easier thanks.
Glad it helps. These Haines are a great offshore hull ... no wonder they are considered classics. Cheers Z
Hi, I was wondering who made your hard top?
It was a custom job completed about 5yrs ago. The guy is no longer in that line of work as far as I know as he told me mine was the last one. Cheers.
@@zk8241 bugger that's a shame, thanks for the info all the same, great to see the same boat ripping along. I've got 225 on the back and it's amazing, see you out on broken bay maybe?
@@lancejansen7378 I had a 225 Yam 2st, then went to 200 Merc EFI 2st, and now the Merc 150 4st ... with the 150 I have halved my fuel bill and have better performance up to 60km/h ... BTW, I'm on www.fishraider.com.au/ with all my fishing posts. This video was made for a fishraider colleague who wanted to know how loud the new 150 was. Cheers Z
ppfffttt...stuff the neighbours I say :D
looks like a great day out
Ive seen this done before. And its way to much back press on the exhuast. Starts blowing seals in the lower leg
It's no different than the motor being in the water I don't see what harm anything
I now skip commercial advertisers. Glad I found it. the phone picture got me looking. This is great. Even I can make it. For me this youtube diy. Thank you.
mate you did a great job fitting your winch .Seriously over engineered though better to be safe than sorry I always say.
Mate, absolutely awesome video. Unfortunately mine will be a slightly different application, as Im going to install a Lone Star GX2 into my Whittley CR2180 anchor well. I found your information and explanations brilliant for other DIY's and really appreciate you taking the time to record your movements step by step. I also like the choice of products used as I myself have used many of them previously. Just a quick thank you from a fellow boater!!!!
Nice catch Z.
Congrats mate. Was a small rod and real . Well done
Would help if their was actual video, nothing but black screen.
I dig it...simple and effective...I have a muffler that fit my old prop, but doesn't on my new prop as it is flanged outward....THIS will work for me...
What happens when u take a green wave over the bow. U should of made anchor well sealed away from cabin.
Yes of cause mate. Very bad idea. Anchor well must be sealed off completely away from cabin
Yes wait until u take a greenie over the wave . Very bad idea to have an open bow. In a closed off cabin. Thats how many ships sink through the chain locker doors left open. U will get caught one day. ! Centre console is centre console. They are either flush deck . Or a good bulge system. Csbons are ment to stay dry . Eindows are for air vent.
My concern as well.
@@zk8241 bit of water doesnt matter, thats what boating is for, if people dont like water, stay on land
ITs a good idea, but I wonder if you can expand on a couple of details. is the pvc pipe just a press fit into the inside diameter of the prop? is there anything inside the PVC except for the hose fitting and the air holes? How are you supplying the water? is that 1 hose with a y joint supplying water to the mufflers on the shaft, and at the same time to the input on your pvc pipe? Cheers
Will it reduse top speed? How well will it perform in open water?
zmk1962 Haha, yes I know but I couldn't resist my fun comment. Cheers
Because of this video, I went to Silver Star and tried this slope(ALL green runs before this) on Dec 21st 2016, it's really steep.
