I’m in the market for a new midsize truck. I’ve got a GMC Sierra 1500 and it’s been a really good truck. But I’m a bit nervous about the turbo 4. I watch a lot of videos that seem to put a bad light on them. I had a Frontier before the truck I have now. Put 265k miles with minimal maintenance and it was running strong when I traded. I wish I had more faith in the GMC but I’m a little hesitant to jump on the 4 cylinder trend that seems to be taking over the truck market…😲

2025.01.18 I own a 2019 Tacoma Crew TRD Offroad 4x4 3.5L and it’s awesome with a 6500lb tow pkg. The new pricing is great for resale trucks however it prevents current owners a reasonable price difference to upgrade forcing them to consider non toyota brand trucks. Toyota needs to wake up.

My view. People were drawn to a Tacoma for: Price, reliability, resale value and V6 motor and that`s why they WHERE number the #1 mid-size truck. Now, when you go through your normal check off list why you should buy that vehicle those blocks are left empty. There is another vehicle manufacture Dodge, /Chrysler/jeep/ram that already did what Toyota is doing and what happened? That other company sales were from people that had a higher bring home income so sales didn`t slow down for a while. Now that income bracket has dried up on them and sales are plummeting. Which now how the sales of Tacoma get smaller

I have a Toyota Corolla lacrosse 2023 XLE I find it excellent in most areas except for the acceleration front. I had a scion XP before enormous difference in acceleration but then again I’m not in the racecar business anymore.

The Transmission is a huge concern, my 2021 never gave me a once of trouble, but it did shift hard once in a while. I changed the tranny fluid & filter at 28,000k and it showed fine grey particles in the pan and filter, (break in) it’s been shifting smooth without any issues since. I plan to change fluid & filter every year from now on.

A CVT Robs an engine of horsepower, torque and mpg. It’s cheaper for the automaker to produce but when they fail, it costs a minimum of $8K to replace them

Too bad that the Maverick isn’t as reliable as the older Ford Ranger’s or the older Toyota pickups or the 3rd generation Tacoma’s.

I paid $25000.00 for a 2006 trd off road. Still have it! To replace it the price is $53000. Think I will keep mine!

Whats next for tacoma? Id say the junk yard in 5 years. Turbo 4s stressed to the max will never last. Hiw many 10 15 y r old original engine turbo charged anything with 300k 400k left on the road? None thats how many.

My 22 hybrid XLT was so bad, I traded it for a 25 AWD, 4K hybrid; 47 mpg U.S. and not a single issue; just wanted better winter traction and towing capacity; never had a scratch in the plastic, no rattles in the doors. This sounds like fearmongering; show me another pickup with fewer problems; it doesn't exist.

The only argument that people have for those turbocharged engines is power. People don’t buy Toyota for power, they buy for reliability/longevity!!

Recalls won’t tarnish car brands as long as problems are addressed. And the biggest reason why people don’t like it is because they love the V6 NA. Turbos usually have issues especially with age and people buy Toyotas for their longevity so it’s a no brainer.

They have moved away from their principles of simple, overbuilt, reliability principle. They care more about performance and technology. Who the hell buys a toyota for reliability its a tacoma not a damn Mercedes.

That's a lot of money for a transmission issues.

The Ridgeline is exactly what most of us want. If you want to go off road or tow a 5th wheel, go buy a big truck. I get a kick when some reviewers think that it doesn't compete because it doesn't have what "THEY" think is should have. Well, it has all they "WE" want it to have. Don't like it, go buy a Toyota or whatever. In the mean time, we're happy with the #1 rated midsize truck with a 5 star rating from Consumer Reports.

Do not forget that all tacomas now are assembled in MEXICO. I'll choose the tundra at least its still built in TEXAS.

I bought a new 2023 Tacoma base model with 2WD, to avoid dealing with the aggravation of a turbocharger. I will not buy a vehicle with a turbocharged engine. Those engines pretty uniformly seem to have durability and reliability issues. I noted that the new extended-cab Tacomas have no rear doors opening in to the jumpseat-cargo area, instead having front seats that have to be tilted forward for access. This is VERY inconvenient when dealing with sacks of groceries or installing child-seats. Also, the tailgates on the new models have eliminated the damper that allows the tailgate to be dropped open without slamming down to the open position, usually hitting your leg in the process. BILL

Toyota has changed alot. No longer a no brainer, reliable brand. Unproven technological advances and getting on the consumer treadmill is killing them.

My 2023 Tundra is in the shop getting a new engine and they gave me a 2024 Tacoma as a lender. Well the Tacoma has check engine light on and the dealership says “don’t worry about it, not a big deal”! Autozone says it is a transmission code. When I get my Tundra back it is being traded in for a Colorado ZR2. Done with Toyota, they are building junk and living off no longer applicable reputation!
