You mean the platform right above it? If that's the case it's either your flash jump timing or your leaf tornado timing, probably the former. If you don't have flash jump keybound (I don't) just make sure you double jump as quickly as possible after you leave the ground and then immediately leaf tornado. That should prevent you from going too high up.

Grinding as merc is very active since you have to move around, there's no "lazy farming" for merc (save for maybe Odium tp farming). Whether you find that tedious or not is up to you. I'm not much of a grinder myself, most I ever usually do is an hour in a row. However I do enjoy it on merc a lot more than other classes, because it's far more engaging and fluid, and you can get creative with rotations.
