A Calm Before The Storm

Every time I go out, it is always something special, and with the summer coming to an end, the times spent out like this are more special than ever. This was not really where I was supposed to end up; I was going to visit a park called Terra-Cotta, about 30 or so minutes away, but on the way there, I came to witness this park. It is not very big or as big as the park that I had initially planne...
Trichromatic Photography
Просмотров 698Год назад
Trichromatic photography is the process of taking three identical black and white photos: one with a red filter, one with a green filter, and one with a blue filter. The three images are then combined to create a color photograph. Today, Photoshop is used to complete the process, but originally, a projector was used to project each image through the corresponding filter and then overlap to crea...
Pinhole Photography with the Beast - Mamiya C330

This was another beautiful day out at one of my favorite Parks in Montreal, Parc régional de la Rivière-du-Nord. On this pinhole adventure with the Mamiya C330, I brought along two rolls of FP4 and one roll of Fuji Pro 400H. It is rare that I use film for pinhole photography, and because of that, I mistakenly exposed all the films as I would for paper. It was only once I got home that I realize...
TLR Love Yashica D

Nothing beats being out in nature, and with that being said, I am still a little bummed out because I just came to realize that the fridge that most of my films were stored in has not been working properly, and I know this because when I reached in to grab a few boxes, the boxes were mushy. I had a bit of a freak out, more so because all my color films were in there too. This roll of film was n...
Chiba Process Using Elmer's Clear Glue

This is a process that I have been wanting to try, especially now that I found out that it can be done without the use of dichromate. I very much enjoy working with the cyanotype process, but this process just might take its place, and that is because you are not limited to prints resulting in only one specific color. For the first print, I knew that I should have waited for the right time of d...
Cyanotype Box Camera Session

This is a new beginning, and I think it's off to a great start. I was not sure if I was going to get back to this this summer, but since I have been working with the lumen box process lately, I got inspired and decided to give this another go. I apologize for the messy presentation. I did this thinking that it would have been another failure, but I was mistaken. There is a lot more that I need ...
World Wide Pinhole Day 2023

I was really hoping to upload this much sooner, but I guess it's better late than never! I was lucky this year, I managed to get out long enough on this special day before the rain came down, but I was not so lucky with most of my results as I was plagued with a light leak on almost every single photograph, but that's ok. Two weeks ago, I decided to head on out to Parc Marguerite-D'Youville, a park that I had been to before, which is a rare thing as I like to hike to different places each time I get the chance to get out. This is the same park that I went to for World Wide Pinhole Day 2022. In fact, I had gone there a few years earlier, and at that time most of the trails were closed due to flooding. So here is ...
Out With The Beast - Mamiya C330

I visited a park that was about 20 minutes from home and I was hit by the unexpected. Whenever I plan to head out, I will always research the park through Google to get an idea of the type of terrain and scenery I would expect, but this was the one time I did not do that because I had decided to go out at the last minute. The weather was perfect, but I had the direction of the harsh sun facing ...

Use a small amount of hydrogen peroxide in the rinse to deepen the blue. The first time you use it, it looks like a magic trick!
@@TheRoadAuthor I use to in the beginning, it is magical!
Hello, is it necessary to add oxalates to show the negative image, and can only cyanotype paint work without oxalates to show the image? Is this possible? I hope for a response. Thank you for this distinguished video.
thank you so much! very helpful!
@@may8434 My pleasure!
Thanks 👍🏿
Thank you ❤
Your welcome!
Wonderful images.
Useful information. I just tried my first ever cyanotype ( on a t-shirt) and had the same problem that you described. It washed out completely, no image, although a blue ring all around the edge of where the solution was applied. I had been doing a test strip from 1- 10 minutes. I thought that maybe I had left the Cyanotype solution to fory for too long, the instructions say that it is only stable for 2-4 hours. I had left the t-shirt to dry overnight. The UV light source I use doesn't state the actual wavelength, but I have always successfully used it for exposing my screen printing projects. I had thought that I had left the Cyanotype to dry for too long, following your information I now think that my light source may be the problem. Next step is to try exposing a T-shirt in the sun. Thanks for posting.
Thank you. your video is very useful i love it.
@@nadamagdi5566 Hi and thank you. You are so welcome!
WOW, I lve the idea and thought you put in this creation. Amazing ... I'm always looking to buy cameras, making what I want to fit the lenses and focal look I want to get.
@@2430Studio-MattLawrence Awesome!
You’re doing some very interesting stuff.
Thank you very much!
Interesting experiments 👍🏻
Thank you!
Thank you, Nicole. I would only use the hydrogen peroxide for one print. You can also use citric acid instead of oxalic acid to check the PH. This is perhaps more environmentally friendly and also healthier. Also I would size the paper. It is easier to wash off the non-exposed areas. I hope this makes sense.
Hi! Thank you very much for the tips! Yes, I have looked into using citric acid as it being more environmentally friendly.
@@NicoleSmallOneonOne You're welcome!
Some great images there. Very impressionistic.
Hi!Thank you very much!
Amazing journey to get to this point (watched your previous videos) !!! You're the only one doing this stuff on youtube :) I'm curious about the ratio for both coating and developing solutions
i make my own cyanotype with coffee. we need water color paper and black coffee powder and water mix the coffee solusion and mixsure the quality of the coffee solusion is strong color and put to the paper and you can print now exposure for a 1hour to 2hours and the photos is nigative you can make now!!
That's interesting the first shot has a blue mist around you
Nice presentation. Shots turned out great 👍 Thx for sharing
Beautiful video, beautiful images amazing work loved this video a new subscriber
Hi! Thank you very much!
Thanks for the great video! So helpful! I was wondering if you need to create and store these solutions in a room without sunlight. I know that when these two solutions are mixed together and applied to a surface it must be done in a UV free room, just curious about beforehand.
Hi Olivia. Yes, make sure the bottles are stored away from sunlight and when applying the solution just make sure you are in a place where no direct sunlight is in the area you plan to work in. The further away you can work from light from any windows, that are draped of course, the better.
Thank you for getting back to me on this! I'm very thankful for your knowledge. :)@@NicoleSmallOneonOne
Thank you ❤
You are so welcome!
Could you please let me know the CAS No of ferric ammonium citrate? the CAS Number written on the bottle?
Great documentation of your pinhole technique! Amazing to see an artist at work! I love the Fujichrome colors for this work. I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel!
Hi David. Thank you and welcome to the channel!
amazing!
my ferric ammonium citrate is brownish; it is not green. is it possible to use it?
HI! Yes, it is possible to use but the green is preferable. The brown is not as light sensitive as the green.
hey I should thank you for all information you gave in your channel. by watching your videos I made it possible. starting from scrach till the acceptable result. at the end I could not find green one, but the result was great. Thank you@@NicoleSmallOneonOne
I’m wondering if the hydrogen peroxide gets exhausted quickly or can it be used for more than one print. What’s your experience? Also, thanks so much for all of your posts! It’s really good following you.
Hi. At this point I have not done enough of this process to make that assessment, but I will take note and share those findings. Thanks for following!
it is a great tuturial. thanks
You're welcome!
Nicole, a question about your XP2 in DDX chemistry. What are your processing times, DDX ratio and temps? I've used HC110 in the past with good results, but I am using DDX now. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you, FW
HI Frank! The ratio 1:4 at 20 degrees and for time I tested between 10- 12 minutes. I always made judgment calls according to the tests I did and the type of lighting that was present in the scene. If scenes were of high contrast 10 minutes and those low in contrast I processed for 12 minutes.
@@NicoleSmallOneonOne Have you tried any Stand or Semi-Stand developing with DDX? Thank you, FW
@@frankwolff2903 Hi Frank, I have never thought to stand develop with this developer. What is your workflow when doing so?
Beautiful work, thanks for sharing 🩵
Thank you very much!
Hello, i have a 365 nm but after 1 or also 2 hour exposing the picture doesn’t show. And the colour too. Never had problems with the sun but with artificial light it seems impossible. Any advice?
HI! Some questions for ya! 1.Is your light new or old ? 2. How far do you have your light for your print? 3. What is the power of the light, it must be at least 50watts to work on the Cyanotype. Let me know if this helps you in any way.
I know this is a few years old. But 'thanks' for another awesome video. I've been getting re-interested in pinhole photography, paper negatives and contact prints. I'll have to make an 8x20 box camera sometime soon.
That sounds awesome! Let me know how it goes once you are up and running!
Well done Nicole, always thinking of others 👍
Hi! quick question, will this method work without the chemicals?
Thank you for the advice. I just using an ultraviolet flashlight and lamp for trying out Cyanotype printing and Lumin printing and noticed the intensity of both light sources. The use of sunglasses make a lot of sense. Thank you for your videos.
Hi Scott, Thank you for watching !
I recently started working with resin and was amazed at how quickly I got a headache while working with UV lights. The protection is worth every penny.
We can get so involved in something, that we forget safety protocols!
A bunch of assumption. Most UV LEDs used by others for the Cyanotype process operate with around or slightly under 400 Nm wavelength. The reason could be of any other kind as well. Beginning with the glas infront of the LEDs, which sucks quite a bunch of UV light up to the used travelling distance of the light in context with the extremely low power of 20 W and the required timing being considerably too short.
Thank you for your input. This video dates back to 3 years ago, a time where I only depended on the sun to create Cyanotypes. This is where I started when deciding to use an artificial light source, having no real knowledge about them. Everyone starts somewhere with something new and this so happens to be my start/beginning. Without any of my assumptions, curiosities and determination made at the start, I don't think I would have found a perfect solution, which I have been open to share with everyone, a light source that does the job each and every time.
For some reason, waterfalls fill my heart with nostalgia.
They are absolutely beautiful
Wonderful advice. You are intelligent and creative, and it's sometimes tempting to just do something fun without safety precautions, because of curiosity. In photography there can be dangerous chemicals, harmful light frequencies, and huge energy overloads (for example, looking at the sun through a fast lens on a dslr). Hopefully, we can all live long lives, and taking precautions to avoid injury can prevent a decision we'll regret.
100%!
I like the ballistic spec wraparound UV A/B/Blocking Edge or Bolle shades.
Haha! Thanks!
Great job. I will remember the wavelength as the same number of days in a year so I won't forget it now.
Hi Guys, for small prints I am using an old uv lamp for gel or hybrid nails (older models with bulbs). Bulbs are usually 365nm (I have four 9W bulbs ) and exposure time takes about 3 -6 minutes for cyanotype or vandyke.
Thanks for sharing!
Just amazing, I am impressed.
HI! Thank you very much!
