I am a singer songwriter from Wiltshire and have spent most of my life living in the East Midlands, England.
In 2020 I started to create my first basic videos. As time progressed I gradually picked up more skills and got more ideas. I hope you enjoy them.
I currently have 3 albums for sale on Bandcamp

The path of an ancient Roman road from Winchester to Salisbury. A cathedral of trees and a choir of birdsong. A wonderful place. Music by Mark Spruce Images by Mark Spruce and Vanessa Stone 2024
Old Brock
Просмотров 1535 месяцев назад
The music for this one is based on an original riff by my old musical partner Steve Jepson. The original lyrics ( slightly ammended by me) are by James Whiteman. From our youth we both know the Woodford valley just north of Salisbury. James based the idea for the lyrics on an old badger he used to see in the area. Old Brock. Just because you cannot see him does not mean he might not be watching...
Uppsala

Uppsala is a university town in northern Sweden. I went there in 1981 and something/nothing happened. He sat on the sofa She said I’ll teach you the chords To that Neil Young song He'd smoked what she offered His fingers were numb And kept going wrong In Uppsala A quiet room at the party she said She wanted to practice her English They drank and laughed And he almost relaxed In Uppsala He'd nev...

Music by Kingbee 3 soundcloud.com/kingbee-3 Video by Mark Spruce Song explanation from Kingbee 3 This was written mostly with the Zebra CM soft synth hence the title but then remembered a chat with a doctor friend asking about how they diagnose illness and he told me 'When you hear hoofs, think horse, not zebra. So I just turned the idea around and thought you might be missing something out if ...

A Not Forgotten Soldier
Просмотров 15111 месяцев назад
In 2007 I discovered my late grandmother had an older brother who had died in WWI. We knew nothing about him, could find no pictures of him and all the information subsequently discovered was from internet research. He was another forgotten soldier. In 2008 I decided to write him a song so he would not be forgotten. In 2012 my son and I went to Ypres and visited his grave. Now in 2023 I have re...

A little tune I came up with to go along with some pics/vid clips. A personal way to preserve the memory of a blissful morning in Upper Woodford.

A song about the healing power of being out in nature. Your magnificent indifference You don’t notice that I'm here Your timeless, indestructible Beside you I disappear Your motions never ceasing Bring strange comfort to me Never changing or yielding You are the mighty sea Your landscape doesn't care For my elation or despair The wind still blows the grasses The soil is unaware You are natures ...
Jesus drives a Skoda
Просмотров 204Год назад
I saw a guy once with long hair, beard, sandals and a sort of kaftan walk through a car park and get into a Skoda and drive off. That's unusual? I thought so quickly wrote down the first verse of the song. The rest of it developed from there; original thoughts and overheard stories. Jesus Would drive a Skoda If he were around Today It seems the common man Has lost common sense His moorings Drif...
Love it!😊😎👍
Arrivé sur ta chaîne grâce aux ballades de Dave Ford, j'aime beaucoup ta musique et tes textes, bravo, continue.
Merci et bienvenue😀
Nice one Mark. I know one of your songs will always be witty, and this one is no exception. What is really impressive is some of the guitar licks, which you pull off with aplomb - not easy in the heat of battle and even a couple of harmonics, too!
Great job.. So sweetly melodic.. 👍👍👍👍Like me too
Thank you very much
Wonderful composition and lovely video! Very cool 👍👍
Many thanks!
Thank you, Mark; such soothing music and photos to accompany them. The rustling leaves and birdsong add to the restfulness and I’ll admit to shedding some tears. It’s not been an easy few months and I needed that. Xx
Bloody good looking 🙂 nicely done Mark, I liked the distant tag at the end there.
I really like this, Mark. All the details and the storyline that go somewhere/ nowhere. You create that drifting dreamscape out memories inhabit. And that rhythm change with the tambourine in the middle works very well too.
Thank you Suzanne. This a song that seems to go down very well at open mics in its usual stripped down guitar/vocal form but its nice to give it a full layered production.
As you already, Mark, I love this song. I’ve had similar experiences with both robins & blackbirds and the sense of connection is very special. There’s a flow to the melody and lyrics that creates a dreamlike mood. “My heart grew lighter”. It’s almost as if our hearts themselves have grown wings, isn’t it?
Very good. Thank you
This isn't a style of music I can claim to understand, but -- yeah - I liked it, it has a good danceable beat and a lot going on to hold the attention. Do you have the phone numbers of the two girls at the end!
I was expecting to see a bread recipe 😢
Coor, this is nice. 😀 It appeared in my playlist. Good choice. 👍🏻
Glad you liked it. Its also on my live album. spruce1.bandcamp.com/album/original-spruce-live-at-the-white-swan
Loveley thing to do mate-- seems to work niceley in G
Great video and photos. Would have liked to see lyrics. My grandad managed to escape the war as ..he had flat feet.. which at the time meant you coudn't join but he was allowed to be a stable boy and look after the horses
I have added the lyrics in the description.
Brilliant images bringing back memories of a great day. Thanks very much
Simply gorgeous music
Loving this. ❤️
Beautiful clear chalk streams and rivers👍
So lovely to see the old pics. Takes me back too. ❤
Thanks Jane. It seems a lifetime away from modern farming.
still listening to your music man! cool song and great guitar playing :)
Hey Jay really glad to hear it. Hope you are doing ok.
Cool laid back vibe. Cheers
Wot? No Herbs, UFO, Randall and Hopkirk, Tiswas...I could go on. Anyway, very well done moving your head around...and song writing 😀
That was a fun trip back to my worth and definitely hanging onto the end for the extras! Happy birthday! Here’s to many more years of songwriting 🥳🎶
Brilliant! I love the take on this! Thought provoking too.
Thankyou 😀
Beautiful song Mark ❤
Really original song, you’ve got me all misty-eyed thinking of those ’70s songs. I really like the cut of your jib. Cheers.
This is a great idea for a song, and it works a treat.
Very witty, Mark. You took me on a journey through all my misspent gameshow-watching hours! Very enjoyable.
Love your new song,
very clever and intrigued at quality of recording. Sounds really clear without a mic in sight. Cheers
Ah, those gameshows of yesteryear. Actually we were watching an old Come Dancing with Terry Wogan presenting the other night. Definitely a different era.

Lovely atmosphere created here ;)
That was very entertaining! I think each one reminds me in part of someone I know. Lovely piece of observational humour. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
He he. Very imaginative. And a touch moving.
Thanks for watching. Hope you like VP2....just posted!
