How to Repair Streamlight Flashlights - Stinger Repair Kits and Rebuild Kits
Просмотров 19 тыс.3 года назад
Stingers are by far the most popular flashlights among technicians in the automotive repair industry, which is my specialty. You can drop them a thousand times and the flashlights just keep working. That is why they are so popular. Over time the flashlights can fail, but the good news is they can be fixed for very little money. The above video shows you how to fix them and what tools you need. ...

Best video out there. The rest of the videos out there don’t explain anything. Thank you Sir for taking the time to make this video👍
lets see a disassembly of a protac 90x someday?
How about repairing the Wedge? Possible?
I have not seen a kit for that, or the new 2020s. There is a rear button replacement for the 2020s BTW. I think they are facing out their old LED stingers and Strions and expecting everyone to buy the 2020. The 2020s are way brighter, and they are durable like the regular LED stingers, but the batteries are more expensive and I haven't seen a repair kit for them yet.
Head doesn't unscrew on the stinger hl..not serviceable
It is serviceable. Take off the lens cap, and it unscrews the same as regular Stingers in the video.
My stream light flashlight won’t turn off. What would be the issue?
There could be a couple issues. First thing to do it try replacing the guts, like the video shows. Second, it might have been separated where it shouldn't have been, like the video indicates. It might not be fixable in that case.
Thanks for a great video! I've been putting this repair off for a while.and your video helped motivate me to "get er done"!
Glad I could help. They are the best flashlights IMO, but they aren't cheap. Worth fixing.
the flashlight won't work...intermittently. I suspect bad connection to battery from rear end of light
I doubt it is the battery. If it has a dual switch, it could be the switch in the back. I have also seen the pressed fit part of the flashlight pulled apart. That could cause and intermittent problem. Most likely it is the switch, but it could also be a problem with the spring. 9 times out of 10 it is the internal switch/LED assembly. It is all one piece.
@@thetoolchess It could be two things. It could be a spring inside, or it could have been separated in the middle. Once it is separated, I don't think it will ever be reliable. But it could be the spring inside too.
I just watched the video, and I wish I could get those 7 minutes back. You don’t provide any links to buy, no website to contact you, no brands or part numbers, and no specifications, warranty, etc.
There is a link to GSI Industries in the description below. They sell all of the testers and they are all MADE IN USA
ya it maybe Esey to repair but for people that don't know streetlight has a lifetime warranty all you need to do is send it off and they will repair it for only shipping and handling. can also warranty at any tool dealer that sells this flashlight like Snap On Matco tools Cornwell tools and so on
That would be great. I think the best option is for the dealer to fix it right there on the spot.
Let’s just say someone had a flashlight that acts like it won’t fully charge like it used to. Like it goes brownish not long after fully charging. Is it time to buy a new battery? And which batteries are interchangeable? The battery seems hard to find. And a follow up question: Have bulbs improved since 2003? I’ve got 2 stingers and they’re not that impressive as when they were a while ago. Both from snapon but lately I’ve been getting coast flashlights. But I really hate throwing things of value out and also like how stingers feel. Cheers, Bill
I bet the battery is worn out. That is the first thing to check. It sounds like your Stinger has the bulb, not the LED. There are upgrade kits. I am not sure if Streamlight makes the upgrade kit though. The latest LED is the C4. With a new battery and an upgrade, your flashlight will work great. You could drop it hundreds of times and it will keep working. Good luck. If your flashlight is an LED, it is really simple to upgrade with a C4 upgrade kit.
I have a stream light polystinger LED HAZl-LO. I can't get the battery out and SL says I can only send it to them to change the battery because it's sealed to make it intrinsically safe. What do you think?
Wow Byvion, I have never seen that Streamlight. I can't help on that.
@@thetoolchess I just couldn't believe what they told me so I got my magnifying glass out and lo and behold, the 2 tabs that connects on the charger are actually screws. I unscrewed them and it popped right out. I ordered the battery and awaiting arrival.!!
Super simple. Thanks for the video!
They are simple to fix, especially considering their price tag now.
These are the products I sold for years. The 3M products are better than the imports. I have tried many others and heard complaints, including the disc separated from the plastic roloc-style and then flew across the shop. That is the best reason to use 3m, besides the fact they are just made with better materials.
How do you replace the clear lens?
The lens cover screws off and are available via the link below the video. Thanks
@@thetoolchess I tried every way possible to take the lens cover off or the the reflector out nothing even budged to hint that it was removable.
@@Babybeast4357 Grab it and twist it counter-clockwise. It might be tight, but it will come off. This is the replacement part: ebay.us/otKwWr I hope that helps
@@Babybeast4357 not sure if you still need info on this but just the clear lens is pretty much not replaceable as it a press in fit and almost have destroy things to get the old one out and press in the new one, not really worth it IMO. i had a tool truck replace one of mine with parts directly from streamlight as it had some weld splatter on it, ended up it was only a few dollars more to just get a new upper assembly that @The Tool Chest suggested where it replaces the entire upper part including the reflector/lens and reflector housing.
@@partymstr4 Just by the lens assembly. The actual plastic lens is not replaceable, I think. I remember hearing about an expensive tool to do it, but it isn't worth it. Also, just twist the assembly and get get a new lens assembly.
Ordered my 2nd one 😁.
So, any issues with them?
@@thetoolchess I really have no issue that would affect the performance of the light but if i had to find something to improve on, it would be the heat it builds up when blasting the 2k lumens and the plastic tail cap at the end, otherwise its a solid durable and reliable piece of Aluminium light. I also like the accessories you can purchase with this light one of them being the aluminium ring at the lens of the light can be changed to like 5 different colors. I have one blue and one orange the recently put on my 2nd ordered light.
@@forgedsteelwrench9249 I've had issues with two of these. My only issue with the design is that if you drop it and the corner of the bezel is dented or the side of the body that the bezel threads into, that bezel will be pretty much locked in there. I would have gone with a stainless steel bezel for durability.
@@TestTubeBabySpy i can definitely see what your talking about as the bezel along with the body is aluminium and can become out of round if dropped hard enough causing a pinched bezel.
$$$$$ price???
After taxes it looks like around $160 or $170. One customer paid $250 from Snap-On. I guess it depends on who you buy it from. My big question is: how durable are they? How many times can you drop it? I hope they are as durable as the old old stingers. Also, if there is a problem, are they reasonable to repair, like the old ones?
This is a review of the Stinger 2020 by Streamlight. I will be producing a leather holster for this flashlight in the future.
......I've seen folks find these lights in the bottom of a lake and still work. I have 2 new ones but willing to get another one if I score one at a Pawn Shop.
I have tried many flashlights. These are the best, IMO, because if you drop them, they keep on working. Plus, they can be fixed. The piggyback chargers are a big win too. Charge the flashlight and an extra battery at the same time.
@@thetoolchess The gray chargers are the new chargers and have a better battery management system (BMS) which can handle the LiIon batteries. Get a new piggyback if you have the black one. Or just get another flashlight before they quit making those great LED stingers.
Nice video but how do you know why a broken one won’t turn on ?
The first thing to check is the battery. Put the battery in someone else's flashlight and compare it to yours. If it isn't that battery and it won't turn on, then use the repair kit and it will fix it. Links are blow for the repair kit. It doesn't matter if it the switch or LED or whatever, the repair kit is everything. I fixed another one today and it didn't turn on. Perhaps the rubber boot got pushed so you can't click the switch. But I haven't seen that.

My new favorite light/Bluetooth speaker! 😎
I forgot about that speaker. Why not, all of the magnetic lights should have one.
Very informative and refreshing 👍
Thanks a lot Daniel
Rock on Dan! I need one them rebuild kits for my light - Martin Pops and Sons
Hey Martin. I hope you have a great New Year and Merry Christmas. I will be stopping by next year. :) Thanks !
It is really simple to repair Stingers. I hope this video helps save you some money, especially if your tool dealer can't help.
I have been selling some of these kits since the early 1990s. The Master fuel injection tester has been updated over the years. The compression tester has the 14mm spark plug adapter. All of the kits are put together with quick couplers and fittings. All of the products in this video are made in the USA.
Comment: Over the years I have been amazed at the advancement in tool storage. What are your thoughts on blow molded boxes, or do you use socket racks? Thanks for watching.
Nice video!
Glad you enjoyed it.
I forgot to mention that the Saber Light, the ATD Light has a BlueTooth SPEAKER. That is an important feature. What is your favorite magnetic light? Streamlight?
Thank you for reviewing our SABER product, but besides the speaker, you also forgot to mention that the SABER 80211 features step-less dimming from 100 to 1000 lumens to extend the runtimes. Just hold the power button to change the brightness up or down. The SABER also shows the percentage of battery power remaining as well as the percentage of lumens it is currently set at. So if it is set to 70% brightness, the LED would be outputting 700 lumens. It is heavier because of the built-in 5W Bluetooth speaker and the included battery. You mentioned that you can angle the Milwaukee after you stick it on with the magnet, but you can also direct the light (and sound) after clamping or sticking the SABER light down. This Milwaukee should be compared to the SABER 80212 instead. Similar to the 80211, but without the clamp and speaker. The 80212 has a magnet and the base is also a hook. It also has the step-less dimming feature and retails closer if not lower than the Milwaukee.
