How to test the Hall Effect Sensor or position sensor in a washer.
This is a bench test of a rotor position sensor also known as a Hall effect switch. This sensor is used on most direct drive washers.

Thank you for the video. I have A LG that had the le error code I checked the Hall effect sensor using your advice and test points found mine was bad. Ordered one from Amazon. Installed it and washer is running like new. Thanks again from Michigan
Are you retarded? If so don't bother people
Excellent knowledge. I'm diagnosing a Fisher-Paykel throwing an RPS sensor fault.
Knowing what should be at each pin is most of the problem - not sure if there’s a place to find that information??? This was extremely helpful. Thank you!
Question, can the sensor accept more than 10 volts? Can the voltage be from 10 to 15 volts? Will that voltage damage it?
And to test the bad part, what will the reading show? you tested a new one correct & do i need a power supply to test it? I get OL with the new & old part.
Simple and easy to follow troubleshooting
Do you have more videos ?
I will try the 9 v Battery, and themagnet, voltimeter
I found 5 to 1= 10.36 5 to 2= 19 5 to 4= 20 4 to 1 = 10 4 to 2 = 00 I already ordered, the patrt, ends 2002 A The washer ,..do not give codes, starts like spinning, and water pump, on and on, Thank you , waiting for the part GRACIAS, GRACIAS,
Great video man but have a question i want to use the inverter direct drive motor in on /off way not on washing machine do i need to use the hall sensor and why they use the hall sensor in the DD motor?
Thank You! Thumbs Up
Thank you for this Video, especially the Test part, I tested my LG sensor with the Voltmeter, the readings are OK, but the Washing Machine still cannot spin. Can I have a faulty sensor with correct readings???
Noop if you follow the hall procedure. More likely your inverter will be damaged.
@@washerdryeradvicechannel8041 Love the content on your channel! Do some english stuff man! :)
It is not clear unless I missed something. To start with before you approached the hall with the magnet, obviously it showed voltage ( rooughly 10 volts). Then when you approached the magnet against the hall, it erased the voltage. This is meaningless. By default there should be no voltage to my understanding. It is the presence of the magnet that should separate the charges in the sensor and cause voltage to appear. And up on second approach it should erase it. So there are three states or so it appears. 1. No magnet present ( should imply off state) Because there can only be two states. Either off or on. 2. magnet present ( on state) 3. Magnet present again. return the hall back to the first state ( off state)
Loved this video, but I have W10178988 part, do you know which pins to test on that one and what numbers I should get?
Same here, I have 6 pins RPS W10178988 and don’t know which one to test and what number to expect.
@@mathieubrouillette5835 so I tested all of them and then ordered a used one. The one I got tested nearly the same and of course didn’t fix the issue. Turned out my issue was a bad capacitor
@@mathieubrouillette5835 I still have the extra one and can share my numbers with you if you want
@@mathieubrouillette5835 holding the part with the arrow on top and pointing away from you. The pins I’ll number 1,2,3 on top and 4,5,6 on the bottom. 1 and 6 = 11.3k 2 and 3 = 1.5k 2 and 4 = 1.5k 2 and 5 = 1.5k 3 and 4 = 3k 3 and 5 = 3k 4 and 5 = 3k All the rest were OL
@@therealrollaz Thx for sharing! I get similar numbers so I assume the sensor is ok. I've disassembled it and re-installed and the error code F51 disappeared ... I let you know if it let me down again and need to replace it.
You video was instrumental to diagnose my LG hall sensor malfunction and repair. Thank you so very much!
Sooo useful video, thanks man!
Excellent Video! Thanks!
I got 0 and 10V from pin 1 but 0 and 8V from pin 2, hope replacing it will solve the fault.
What are you swiping and bumping with?
where did you get the power supply
Amazon
exellent! so thats called sensor, i just exploded the part of the motor and do know what this pin things do
Thanks sir
Thanks sir we'll like you channel sir
Do we see same hall effect change for pin 3 as we see for pin 1 & 2 ??
Do we see same hall effect change for pin 3 as we see for pin 1 & 2 ??
is this method work with samsung washing machine?
What are the symptoms of a faulty sensor?
Very helpful, thank you, I'm gonna connect mine to the power supply and test it,, because i dont get 10K ohms between 2 and 5 so most likely bad
I'm repurposing a drive motor for another use. My BLDC controller (manual is in Chinese) has H+, H-, HU, Hv, HW for hall sensor input. Can I use the factory hall sensor for my controller or do I need 3 separate sensors? I have sensors if need be, but the factory sensor would be a cleaner looking install. How would you recommend wiring up the factory sensor?
Thanks for the video. Mine just like part sample #1 open 5 to 2. Done. part ordered thank you for your help
Great Video, a big thank you. Le error on my machine led to a faulty sensor with your guidance. Fitted a new one and all is well. Thanks again.

Hi I have a washing machine 7.5kg Fisher & Paykel top loader, I can hold the agitator with my hands when its going and stop it from moving the motor has no torque would a rotor position sensor cause this? any help would be appreciated. Good video
Great vid. It's thank to you and others like you that make RUclips such a great place for info/help. Thanks again.
Great video man!
What is the volt goes to stator after controller
Indeed helpful. I will certainly use this on certain errors. You can probably use a 9 volt battery to power the sensor on the field.
Exactly
I hate two questions why is only 10 VDC? And your power supply could be set to both A/C and D/C ?
10 volts is what the sensor operates at, and no. It’s a dc power supply only.

What are the symptoms of a faulty position sensor on the washer?
Shane Cody, you might have rpm faults. But do continuity test between the board and the sensor. Broken wires are common.
Thanks. Very helpful.
i have a samsung with 4 connector why is it only two hall and not three isnt it a three phase motor so what trigger the third one?
kevin pounal Hey Kevin, Im not sure if I understand your question. But the Hall effect sensor is only used to detect the movement of the stator of the washer.
I appreciated your electrical test, TKS i was looking for that! Good Info!
I think your full of crap!
Why? Your system? Dumb comment.
