    I have had this for SEVEN horrible years. I became so disabling. I am on short term disability. I have been trying to get a diagnosis for YEARS. My job requires me to walk and stand 10 hours a day. It became so disabling and painful, I had to go on short term disability. It took them 4 months of that disability time to finally diagnos me with GTPS. it had been ignored by my doctors for years. He retired and I have a great doctor who has done all he can to help me, as my diagnosis is now out of his scope. Now, I am dealing with Ortho pedic surgeons who are now back to medically gas lighting me. Blaming this on my weight. Meanwhile the 7 years of being neglected by medical, the damage has been done. I cannot sit or stand for any length of time. I am doing PT and injections and recently a needle tenotomy which did not help, with no end in site. I have no quality of life, I cannot walk, sit, or sleep well. I was swimming for exercise and now I have to stop that because I have narrowing of the cervical C4 and C5 pinching the nerve in my neck. It effects my arms and neck to the point I can no longer swim. I'm so tired. I don't sleep well. Getting into my car hurts. I want my life back. I never had any serious problems in my life until this took over.

      Do you sleep with a CPAP machine? I am in the same boat as you. Except for the otherside, which I do believe is starting to hapoen. I have a CPAP machine which helps with sleeping on my back. But, I use a pillow to life my left hip up, to keep me from rolling back on my hip.

    My mum suffers a lot during the night, horrible pain hip, down the leg, even loss of sensitivity on the surface of her foot. But we are not sure if this is really only tendinopathy or there is also some inflamation in sciatic nerve as a result of that tendinopathy, since sciatic nerve passes that region of glutes. MRI scans don’t show any of this, for the time being doctors just don’t know.

    • @maryhanover374

      I had similar and for a year was misdiagnosed told it was a compressed nerve in the spine, prescribed pregabalin nerve meds which did not help and codeine and more. But finally my physiotherapist noted my symptoms were classic tendinooathy and finally a hip specialist said yes the tendon pain would run down my leg, to my shin from my hip. Best relief was anti-inflammatory called Etoricoxib, sleep with cushions between legs etc, no stretching and start glute strengthening isometric exercises when ready.

    My mum (74) has gluteal tendinopathy and sadly a little tear of one of the tendons and because of that she can’t walk basically. Just enough to shower get in and out of bed and cook food. Even if she takes painkillers but apparently that little tear is enough to decapacitate her. Already 6 weeks it’s this acute faze. I wonder if she will ever be able to walk. But this video was really gives some advice, cleared some things and is very informative

      Maybe she can try Tenex or PRP (PLatelet Rich Plasma Therapy) which are less invasive and help the tear heal.

    Is it normal to have the worst pain at night from gluteal tendonopathy?

    • @Kahsquatch
      @Kahsquatch 4 месяца назад

      I was just accurately diagnosed with gluteal tendinopathy with an MRI, after suffering with it for over a year. A previous doctor misdiagnosed it as piriformis syndrome, but never did any imaging to confirm this. That misdiagnosis lead to a year of ineffective treatment that only made my pain worse. And, YES my pain is at its worst at night. I've had to modify how I sleep, plus take a combination of muscle relaxers and NSAIDS like Advil and Tylenol to get to sleep at night. I used to be a side sleeper, which aggravates the condition. I now sleep on my back with a pillow under my thighs. The position took some time to get used to, but it's the only thing that alleviates my pain enough to sleep.

    Great discussion, I'm only a patient with the dreaded gluteal tendinopathy who has been prescribed the "Grimaldi protocol" but I learned a lot! How would you modify the protocol - if you would - for a patient like me, whose main functional goal is to go back to competitive cycling? Any attempt at cycling at more than snail pace triggers the tendon pretty much immediately, 10-15 minutes is enough... Of course I understand this is not a place for medical advice -- just fishing for ideas.

    Great content! As someone who plans to go to PTA school as an aspiring humanitarian worker, Dr. Mills brought up points I haven't thought about. I can imagine "medical tourism" can be quite counterproductive. It's very important that medical professionals do more than simply treat patients and leave. People in developing countries need to learn how to be self-sustaining.
